How do I make city of heros less laggy
It is too individual to have a magic number that works for everyone.
Try it at the lowest settings and if that works gradually increase it until you are happy.
Also are you sure the lag only affects CoX? It could be your internet connection, or in the case of my laptop having something too close to the fan.

Did you check PD's other suggestion? It could be your internet connection.
You should run a speed test (www.speedtest.net) and find out if that's the culprit.
It could also be your computer simply is not enough to run the game.
The question has too many possible answers without additional information regarding the situation.

Thunder Light - Peacebringer * Displaced Calibre - Dual Pistols/Time Corruptor * Defendatron WS - Warshade
Madame Distress - Ill/Rad Controller * Madame Infernus - Fire/Thermal Corruptor

EDIT:I did put it at the lowest setting the windowd setting and it is still laggy
|
If you can't run it at that level then I would suggest an internet problem or your PC not being able to handle it is the more likely cause.
Try a speed test like Alpha suggested, and also try a speed test while the game is running. I would also try and open task manager and monitor how much CPU % CoX is taking. If you have a multi-core processor I noticed that dedicating an entire core to CoX works well in some cases, as does setting the process at above normal priority.

First of all, if you can't see the Graphic Quality setting, then find where it says 'Advanced Graphics Settings - Enabled', then click on 'Enabled' to disable them.
You should now see the Graphic Quality option, with a slider next to it. Pull the slider all the way to the left (minimum), apply that, and see how the game runs. (Also, set the FSAA to 'Off'.)
It would really help people to help you if you could post more details about your computer specs.

I think a few of the recent updates have possibly included graphical additions that seem to be causing more lag than before for a lot of people. I know I recently had to lower my gf settings after a patch. If you were on the lower end before the patches might have just pushed the game to become too much for your system.

Was this a while ago?

But I would still get the internet tested out. And make sure you are on a connection that doesn't restrict the bandwidth you use, some cheaper broadband connections only let you have a certain upload/download in a certain time, or restrict your speed once you reach a certain limit, which can play havok with trying to run an MMO.

Sounds like you might just be a victim of the game changing its requirements

I got that program that make your compurer run 50% times faster will that help?
|
It could help but because computers are all kind of different speeds and are affected by so many different kinds of software that can be installed it is impossible to say.
You could post the hardware of your PC and we could see if it should be able to play it.

Not sure what program you mean, but I never trust programs that say things like that.

Can't you go in my account and see what wrong with it and fix it?

And with all due respect to PD, you should never give anyone your account information. I also don't think PD would want that responsibility, but I will not speak for others.
If you could provide us with your computer specs, and run the speed test as recommended, we can (maybe) give you more assistance.
If not, you can contact CoH support via the website. Free accounts do not get in-game support, but they do get support via the support site IIRC.
@Alpha XBS ~ Victory
Thunder Light - Peacebringer * Displaced Calibre - Dual Pistols/Time Corruptor * Defendatron WS - Warshade
Madame Distress - Ill/Rad Controller * Madame Infernus - Fire/Thermal Corruptor
At this point it's probably not a problem with your account, but with your computer.

Even if they could get into your account, it wouldn't do anything to help us diagnose the problem if it's an issue with your computer.

If you gave your username and password to someone they could log in from their own account, but equally I could then call everyone names and sell all your stuff (Not that I would, and most people on the forum probably wouldn't either) so it isn't a good idea to give that kind of information out.
I hope that when you follow the link from Alpha you get the help you need.

Yeah it is very unlikely to be a problem with your specific account, and more about how your computer is running the software.

How about posting your processor, RAM, vid card, etc to start. It's hard to find the problem when all we have to go off is that you are laggy and you weren't before. The more information the easier it will be to help you. Also what settings do you use ingame. Not just windowed. Ultra mode on/off? Resolution? All those graphic settings etc.

Processor?
RAM?
Video card?
Which version of Windows?
Are you in Ultra Mode?
Anti A on or off?
World/character textures set at?
Are you running a bunch of stuff in the background, etc.
The more info we can get the easier it will be to help you. Not trying to be demanding, but not a lot of help just knowing you play in window mode.

City of heroes is in the drop down menu it will let you know if it's your computer that's incapable.
My suggestions:
1)If you are using a router, I'd say connect the modem directly to the computer. Most average routers only give about 56mps, versus 100mps through ethernet cable directly connected.
2)Shut all of your internet windows down before playing. This means Facebook, youtube, etc.
3)See if there is an upgrade for your graphic card drivers.
4)reboot the computer and modem.
5)Like the suggestions here, lower the graphics to the very minimum and raise it from there.
6)If you are playing on a team with tons of powers shooting all over the place, this may contribute to lag. I even set my graphics slider to min when on Itrials. You may also want to make sure you don't have memory hogging background applications going on.
7)Good luck with your progress. Worst case scenario, is you may need a new computer or at the very least some more RAM.
NCSOFT may take away our servers and beloved dev team, but they can't break our spirit and community. with all your power, NCSOFT, your victory will be bitter-sweet. I, personally will be there to laugh at you when you face-plant into the ground.
