Very Rare RESPEC recipe

im looking for feedback i have an idea im sure its probably been suggested before, i was thinking that there should be a vert rare respec made avaible to play, which allows them to not only rechoose powers but also you primary and seconday build. for instance a fire/fire tank can choose to become a broadsword/ will power tank etc. this respec should allow you to keep all badge, contacs alignment etc

this respec can be obtained by doing a New incarnate trial which would call for all player to have hybrid unlocked, through random very rare drop, availbe to vip t9 players or through purchase from ncsoft that way the developers make money

Oh look another variation of asking for a power set respec.

I wonder how this will turn out.

The Devs have said, explicitly, that this is not happening. Ever.

Not that it can't be done, but the amount of time and effort and likelihood of braking something big time mean that the chances of this ever happening are so minute as to fit under the door.

If they DID find a way to pull it off without reversing gravity, then expect them to be going for 1,200 points in the Store, because I can say now, they won't be free and they won't be obtainable by any other means.

I was doing some playthroughs of City of Heroes. Now they will serve as memories of a better time ...

They would need to change the game engine before it can be done.

Powersets, AT, and Origin are 3 things they cannot change about a character. I presume it's because the game saves the character data with those parameters.

Someone gave me a link to an article by Massively from Pax East 2011 that reported the when asked about power set respecs the devs said, "The team has discussed it but wants to avoid facilitating regular respecs for the "optimal" build or flavors of the week."

This isn't entirely a re-hash, the part about becoming a Broadsword/Willpower Tank is new.

No, you misunderstand.

The Devs have said (At least I'm about 90% sure they were referring to this) that, as well as being an absolute pain code wise, they Do Not Want to give this to players.

They want people to roll alts. Or re-roll. Or just stick with the character. They chose not to do it (for both reasons). End of.

I believe it was in a Ustream in 2011, and what was said was that it could technically be done, but it would take an extreme amount of time and resources to accomplish. It would also be incredibly expensive if it was sold on the market.

But ultimately it wasn't on the development table because it undermines all the work they put into making the game alt friendly over the past 8 years.

With all the new powersets that are planned for release, something like this WOULD be good.

But I really, really doubt it'll ever happen.

Not for the game, it wouldn't.

Please explain how this would be good with more powersets.

The only "good" is purely subjective. People that value badges wouldn't "lose" the character only badges (like the anniversary event badges) they unlocked.

That's it. There is no other good that comes with it.

It's far more inexpensive to simply create a new alt by buying (if you have to) another character slot, than it is to buy all the stuff you'd need to strip a character before changing power sets.

For example I have 103 slots (includes the vet reward sprints) on a regular level 50 that hasn't run any incarnate content. For a person that hasn't purchased any extra enhancement trays, that's 9 respecs ($90 bucks) plus whatever god awful expensive price on the Power Set Respec they'd have to buy just to strip all the enhancements off of 1 build.

That's 19 respecs + the power set respec for people using two builds and 29 respecs + the power set respec for people using 3 builds.

Even if they buy all the extra enhancement trays they'd still be burning 3 regular respecs + the power set respec for the first build and an additional 4 respecs for each of the additional builds.

Then we have to consider that power sets don't use the same enhancements. A lot of the stuff you use on an Storm Summoning Mind Controller isn't going to be usable on Empathy Earth Controller. Anyone making use of store bought IO's pretty much has to throw those enhancements away if they dont have another character to use them on.

So spend all that money every time you want to change a power set, or $6 bucks to unlock an extra character slot ($20 for 5).

But if there are people that have that much money laying around burning a hole in their pockets, they can put it all on a VISA gift card and mail it to me.

Hi Micheal,

With only two posts I'm betting you aren't on the forums very much.

The posters who are slamming your idea are more often friendly and helpful, but this particular idea has been suggested many times - as you may of guessed.
Please don't let this put you off more suggestions to the forums. Using the search function can help with seeing if it's an often suggested idea.

I think they have already covered why this is unlikely to happen
- Devs have said they don't want it
- A lot of this game is about re-rolling your characters, and seeing the 1-50 with different powersets
- It would be a hard design task
- Respeccing and saving those enhancements from one power set combo to another would be a nightmare task.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

Well, I have more than a few characters that will be rolled as Water Blast when it's release, some of them quite high-level, it'd be good to keep the progress without having to reset.

And any stuff about "the journey"?

Screw "the journey", i've played long enough to have done "the journey" several damn times, I want my damn levels

Not that this'll ever happen, guess it'll be a Rikti Warzone/Dark Astoria job then

That's why I'm more looking forward to the leaked power pools (which can presumably be added to any character), than I am to more full powersets (and having to create a character from scratch to use them).

(... though I'm tempted to make a Staff Melee character after seeing them all over Night Ward and Dark Astoria. CURSE YOU MARKETING)

Anyway, I have suggested in the past that if they were to allow full-powerset respecs (which I know darn well they won't), they should reduce the character to level 1 in the process (but otherwise keeping all their badges, unlocks, and even possibly completed mission arcs intact). They get to re-level the character, but they don't have to go badge-hunting all over again.

Look, I get it. I understand.

Before some iTrials, I've wished I could make my fire tank an elec/fire instead.

But, the long and short of it is this: vip players have a great number of slots. You can always roll or reroll the toon in question. Server slots all full? Delete your lowest. Buy another slot. Choose another server.

So very many options.

But no, as interesting as it would be to see how much it would sell for in the market, I don't think it will ever fly.
