A new Blade set that you might like.

Actually, considering the thought put into this whether or not it might be similar to other weapons of range in other games...this would be a definite advantage to the games dynamics.
Just because one or two people might not like the weapon style does not mean that the rest of us does not like it.
Wow, even gave all the params to range and recharge...good job.
I would personally love to see this weapon incorporated into the game... if the DEFs are smart they will jump on this and make it work.
So what if it is similar to other games...they are not City of Heros.

I think the idea rocks.

I'm a diehard Blaster for life, have been since day 1 of playing 8 years ago.

I say no thanks to this, as the resources needed to invest would be overwhelming compared to the returns.

Way back when, we suggested something a bit similiar in order to create an iconic power that isn't present in the game.

Stretching. As a blaster powerset, since you could strike from range.

When BaB's heard this idea, his head nearly went pop from the mindboggling amount of work it'd take to make such a thing reality.

I can't see it being feasble really. Sorry.

It's still ridiculous.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Games have used this as a believable weapon for quite some time, typically as a VERY long-range melee weapon with extensive multi-target capabilities as most attacks consist of long, sweeping swipes with the blade extended. This exact weapon is the signature of a character from Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones, for reference. It's not just an anime trope.
No, I said I'd never seen a game with one and said I thought it sounded ridiculous.

I never said I don't get it. I get it. It still sounds ridiculous to me. The closest I came to what you might perceive as "not getting it" was questioning what was meant by a specific term used, a term I'd never heard or seen before. Surely you've run across unusual words used by people that you had never heard of.

You find plenty of things in this game that don't suit your particular thoughts about how they should be.

Why do you have so much difficulty accepting statements from others when they have problems with something that doesn't suit how they think the game should be?

And why are you suddenly bringing anime into the conversation when I've never mentioned it? The way you bring it us you act as if that is part of why I don't like the idea.

We get it Tex, you don't like it

Though I don't think this set would work mechanically.

Using a weapon which is to change shape for ranged attacks? Then how is customisation going to work? There are a lot of sword models, not many can easily translate to this (The Egyptian scythe whose name escapes me comes to mind), but then there's the issue of colour - Weapon Customisation cannot change animation or effects, just a static model which is attached to your character. Power Customisation might possibly work, but then it'd have a very large drop-down menu and if memory serves there are other technical issues which can arise from that.

If the set has no customisation, what sword model? 'Long'sword instantly comes to mind, but then not everyone would like that, there'd be a fair amount of backlash with it being the only set so far with no customisation at all.

Should it take on the sword-whip route then, well, the Devs have already said no to a new whip powerset because of how much work they take.

I'm sure I could have a concept for an extending blade, certainly if it could have different customisation options (Extending staff or other assorted weapons, a shaft of stone or ice shooting out of your hand/s, a rod of Forcefields etc) but it'd be a difficult undertaking and, as already documented, may not have a warm welcome.

I am the Blaster, I have filled the role of Tank, Controller and Defender
Sometimes all at once.

If you think about it, having this would give the game a unique advantage over other MMORPGs, even more reason to have it, and if you say that it needs a gimmick for the set, ranged ATs get blades, which people have wanted for a while

If the enemy of my enemy is my friend, is the friend of my friend my enemy?

And it would have customisations, but if not than it would have Katana as default

I agree with Tex to a degree. In real life, whip swords like that are kinda silly. However, they do exist in real life in a way.

They may not have 80 foot of range but I think we might be able to forgive that in an MMO. They don't feel very corrupter, blaster, defender like. A type of scrapper, maybe with mid range attacks, but not full on ranged.

I am going to /unsign for them as ranged AT attacks.

If the Developers could make powersets instantly and perfectly for no cost, then yes!

But sadly, no. So i'll have this /unsigned.

I can't think of any concepts of a character using a sword that 'grows longer'. To me, it goes like this.

Melee: Use a sword (Or any other melee attack)
Ranged: Use a gun (Or any other ranged attack)

If you want ranged with melee, we have that. They are Blasters. Want it on a Corruptor? Well, as part of their APP/PPP, they can get melee attacks (albeit, one melee attack)

Because to me, having a ranged set with melee attacks is crossing some sort of technical heresy of 'melee guys go in melee, ranged guys stay at range'

As for the idea itself? I've explained that. I don't like it. Simply put. I can't take a character who has a 'extending sword' seriously. The room for innuendos is too great.

I was doing some playthroughs of City of Heroes. Now they will serve as memories of a better time ...
