I can't see

I like the new content in Dark Astoris, but it's so dark it's unplayable for me. We have buff pets, difficulty sliders, temp powers. May I suggest temporary pets that enable greater perception/vision, carrying torches, flashlights, etc. I can craft powers in the base to boost end usage, defense, damage. As a smart hero I would never go in a deep dank cave or abandoned building without a flashlight so some monster can jump up from the floor and eat me and my teammates.

It sounds like he's saying the zone itself is too dark. (Which +Perception won't affect.)

Tweak your graphics settings.

game itself is dark, don't know why. I played with gamma, and it makes things green/gray. I still have contrast/dark trouble.

I haven't noticed Dark Astoria being particularly dim. Do you have the same problem with Croatoa?

@Tenzhin no Croatoa is ok.

Particularly indoor missions in DA and also the Indoor Praetorian Resistance missions are very bad, too.

Sewer missions are fine.

I want a miner's hat with a light on it. Hal Jordan had his lantern... Maybe if I could fight from the flying carpet

I haven't noticed it to be particularly dim myself and I was one of those who had serious issue with being able to see Before the revision. Gamma settings will definitely help with this as this is what my PS3 games ask if you want adjusted when first playing Very dark (normally zombie related) games. See if you can't get a screenshot of your graphics settings for us to mull over or if we're lucky someone will pop their head in that's already dealt with said issue.

Edit: Looks like there IS a gamma only option that can be tweaked ingame. Now the important part to remember is that increasing the number will 'Darken' the screen, while decreasing the number will 'Brighten' the screen. This will likely be your easiest solution.

Shine a flashlight into your screen if you need a better view of something in-game. I did that in the flooded basement mission and it really helped me see where the walls were.

I just want to support the OP. Lots of people seem to be saying "I don't have this problem" which could lead one to think the problem is with the OP. I too have a terrible time with the new DA missions, it's entirely too dark in them. Fortunately for me, the topography is basically the same as other maps, so I can "feel" my way around. Others may not have 6 years of memorizing maps to fall back on.

It may be a (fixable) problem with the OP's settings or drivers if other people are not even remotely having the issue (or, potentially a compatibility issue). In which case posting this in the technical issues section might be a good idea.

Especially in DA missions I run against the walls more than in corridors. Adjusting lights does not work because the rest of the world goes ugly.

edit. I'm noticed that there is some new effects in DA missions so perhaps that's the reason.

I suggest playing with the colour settings of your video drivers. If you have an nVidia card, that should be your nVidia Control Panel. Certain contrast and gamma settings can make certain colours blend together, though in my case it's usually bright colours blending into white.

Here's a suggestion - take a screenshot from in-game and see how it looks. If it looks better out of the game, it's your Gamma at fault. If it looks just as bad, post it here and we can tell you if it looks as dark on our screens. That should give us at least some facts to work with.

Thanks I found the settings. I'm not sure if that helped but I'm checking later. Today I have busy day again. Not enough time to play that much I would like to...

It doesn't help too much.

There are even a few situations where the screen intentionally fogs down to black.

The Tub Ci fight is one.
The David Hazen journal recovery (where you go down to the flooded level in the dark (and that usually hides the glowie underwater).

You can play with the contrast all you like. But there's almost no contrast in the scene whatsoever. Just small shadings of "off black".

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

I would guess not - considering that the "pools of light" under streetlamps are really pools of light drawn on the ground - I noticed one of my characters was ankle-deep in one.

I played yesterday for a long time. Looks like I solved some other problems and my computer likes coh again I put my shadow details to lower settings and now I can see the walls in Praetor Duncan's missios. Hopefully that helps you too. Brightness was not the problem but those corridors were totally black like shadows itself.

I have the same problem with the Praetoria Underground maps. I have to mess with my gamma just to see anything in there, which just results in the rest of the game looking washed out.
