Just heard about the passing on April 13 of Jonathan Frid, who played TV's most interesting vampire, Barnabas Collins, on the original Dark Shadows from 1966 to 1971. He was 87 years old.

he probably died from shock from seeing the trailer for the New Burton/Depp version.

Umm, Dezi, ZM...

In the first link, it mentions that Frid and several other DS cast members actually did cameos in the Burton film. So he was aware of Depp's take.

His death will increase ticket sales.. and I think the series just came out on DVD. Hmmmm

Had the same thoughts as Desi and Zom. That was the one TV role he was known for and Deep and Burton took it and made it into a farce.

I will always remember the original Barnabas Collins.

I love Depp and Burton, but hate them for what they are doing to Dark Shadows. It's not likely that many people will ever check out the original now after seeing the new version. Pity.

Yeah, when people were expressing shock at it being a comedy it didn't prepare me for the reality of the trailer. I'm not a big fan of the original, but that movie just looks terrible.

Thanks for the fix. My allergies are in full swing and it feels like there is an entire family of cobbler elves hammering away in my head.

It all does seem rather... timely... to say the least.
I'm quite sure his passing was purely coincidental, albeit rather ironic given the circumstances.
