New to scrappers

well as it says ive never made a scrapper befor allways playing brutes instead but after playing with a few scrappers and reading through the fourms they look fun, so i wanted to make a scrapper just for soloing AV's . i will run itf's and tf's also but mainly just wanted to make a toon that could take av's down i have a few brutes that can do it but it seem's it was easier for a scrapper. any advice on wut to pair together would be awsome.

My DM/Regen rocks for ST damage and survivability. I've never played one, but the various Sword sets also seem pretty great, Katana in particular.

im not a huge fan of dm but i guess katana wouldnt be bad for av's seeing how it has alot of -def i see alot of MA is it any good?

Kat/SR is a good one.

I have done it with most of my scrapper builds with the exception of spines and Claws. You just need that right mix of survival and damage.

About anything /Shield should be able to pull it off after IOs also.

Run through the Pylon thread for the higher damage primaries. I think KM and StJ are near the top right now. I will admit I have not looked in a while though.

Katana isn't good for the -def exactly, rather that it has -def that can slot achilles heel procs for -res, as well as an integral attack that can slot glad fury -res procs. -res is incredibly useful for soloing AVs, -def is situationally and rarely useful. Katana can also be good for the defense that DA provides, but that's also depends on your build, as it can be quite easy to just build for the defense that DA would give you anyways and run a higher dps attack chain without it.

SR is a pretty simple set:
-Can be built effectively on a budget as it is extremely easy to softcap
-Can be built more offensively than SD, although overall offense will still be lower
-Has scaling damage resistance when hp drops
-better defense debuff resistance

SD has alot of utility such as:
*scaling damage buff - one of the biggest reasons to go SD, the amount of dps this can add is huge.
*-dmg debuff - useful for AVs
*strong taunt aura - not all scrappers get one, and this one works really well.
*decent base resistances which work at full hp unlike SR resistances which only kick in when your hp starts dropping
*hp buff - adds alot of survivability. The difference between a 1700-1800 hp scrapper and a 2100-2200 hp scrapper is pretty big.
*shield charge - while not specific to AV soloing is a huge boon to pretty much every other facet of play.
*A usable and effective t9.
*more expensive to get similar results as SR, but has a much better high end if you have the inf to put into it.

The animations are the same, so if that's the problem, then no, it hasnt been changed.

However, since it came out, it's been through some power adjsutments. Like Siphon Life being a key attack.

still reading stuff kinda hard while at work, but would dm/sd be the best choice for soloing av's im not a huge fan of dm but if its that much better then the rest i'd use it, just wondering if there any other options for better dmg

You're a scrapper, more than likely you're going to beable to solo an AV with any combo, given the right funds.

The weakest of Primaries when it comes to ST DPS, is still dishing out 150 DPS using it's best attack chain and only be slotted for damage (so not counting any procs).

That's the weakest of the Primaries.

Okay, admittedly I don't know where WM, Axe or BS sit at the moment, but I'm sure they get equal to or great than Spines, which is the 150 DPS I was talking about.

You say you have the influence to build any build. So, for Primary, pick your favorite, you can't go wrong with it. My suggestion, pick the one that has the best animations in your opinion or fit the concept you envision the best.

The tricky part is picking the secondary! Shields is a good set! DM pairs nicely with it because it gives what Shield lacks, a self heal (Siphon Life) and DM's -tohit only help with Shields Defense (-tohit is like added DDR).

Since you haven't said you had to have the fastest AV killer, just an AV killer.

Note also DM/SH times that youve seen also keep AAO saturated and enough enemies around to fuel Soul Drain.

I don't recall it being terrible, but I don't believe DM comes out on top with just 1 target for Soul Drain.

DB/Elec has the top scrapper times with 340 DPS on a pylon run iirc

ok so after playing my dm/sd into the 30's i have to say it maybe a good build but i just cant get into it, so im going to make a few other scrappers to feel them out i think imgoing with a katana/regen or /sr and was wondering how fire/wp would stand up.

You could wait until Tuesday and try a Staff/?? Combo, along with everyone else in the world. Might be FotM, but it is a damn fun set!

Although, remembering the OP, maybe this won't be your best bet, since Staff is more balanced/AoE DPS than Single Target/Burst DPS.

Katana/Regen isn't likely what you're going for (I have one at 50)

Fire/WP MIGHT be what you're looking for depending on if you want a toggle and go secondary.

However, I have to say, if you're that close to level 35, get to level 35 and see if you like the DM/SH as it's level 35 when the combo gets it's nice AOE in Shield Charge.

What brute sets do you like playing?

That could help us narrow down the scrappers you might like because they are very similar.

well i've played like all of them my fav's are prob ss,wp fm,fa ss,sa ss,ea
But with the scrapper im not trying to go for aoe or tanking i just want to be able to kill av's no prob and have a good combo for Itf's and tf's.And if can pvp alil that would be cool to.

Hopefully I won't be tarred and feathered for saying this on the scrapper forum, but if you're so focused on single target damage why not go stalker?

i just dont like the way stalkers play i have on to 50 em,nin but i dont play it much since they changed em.

I'm going to suggest StJ/WP Scrapper.

You like WP, so it's toggle and go style shouldn't bother you.

WP is a good set for ITFs and generally TFs period. It also IOs out well for defense. And if you want to solo AVs that generally means IO investment.

StJ because it's a fun set that I don't recall being that hard to get enough recharge into the build to get decent ST DPS going.

My second suggestion will be DB/WP. It's what I've soloed AVs with, soloed the ITF with, and the AV to really give my DB/WP trouble was Silver Mantis while the others varied in more difficulty, but usually easier than Mantis.

And with the new sets and paragon market, I bet I could make the DB/WP even better at soloing AVs (not including Incarnate abilities...which of course just makes it easier).

DM/SR is the easiest AV killer I have and I have many.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

Easiest doesnt mean fun though, and the OP doesnt seem to be having fun with DM.

Could always go with a Classic...Claws/SR...which is buckets full of fun to play and extremely easy to get right...nice ST DPS and AoE DPS...claws is cheap on endurance to run...and SR adds some recharge inherently which claws happens to crave...this was the original AV Killer...still great today...just somewhat overlooked.

-E- I have also been working on a spines/fire build that would potentially put out massive DPS...if I finish it soon...I will post it...but think...2 damage auras...tons of DoT...plus interface procs and boatloads of AoE...the ST DPS is good too if my math is right...

Ok, check this out... ST Chain is Burn (348.2 DPS)/Ripper (429.1 DPS)/Impale (367.8 DPS)/ThrowSpines (284.4 DPS) repeat based on Mids Values using Arcana Time for casting...not sure what the chain comes out to be exactly as an average...but it would be nasty...and that's not counting fiery embrace or build up worked in as they come up.

S/L Def is 45%
2 Damage Auras that combine for 50.6 DPS
53% S/L Resists

You will want t4 Ageless Core Destiny on this toon...Net End recovery is only 1.19...with ageless you won't be able to burn endurance fast enough...and your attack chain could lose throw spines too with Ageless up...and I included Conserve Power to get to 2.13 Net End recovery for spurts at a time...it will be up for 90 sec and down for 108 sec.

No travel power, I use ninja run.

One recommendation I'll make with DM is to look into the Soul PP. The awesomeness of Shadow Meld aside, Dark Blast is a very solid dmg, fast power that gives DM the ranged attack it lacks, with good symmetry with the set's already impressive -tohit. I use it as the 4th attack in my chain, along with Smite, Siphon Life and Midnight Grasp, and love it.
