help with grav/time build

I'm looking for some help optimizing my build for team play, since this power combo seems pretty hopeless for soloing. I know my setup isn't close to optimal, but frankly I've got no idea what the best ways to improve it would be so any advice re: slotting, power choice, etc would be appreciated.

On a related note, if anyone has a solo spec for grav/time they would recommend, I'd love to hear it.

It should actually be a great combo for soloing. Rather than adjust your build, I modified my dark/time/primal into a gravity build to give you some ideas. It has good damage, control, softcapped ranged defense, end use/management, tons of recharge, and more than soft capped accuracy against +4s.

Here's my planned Grav/Time build. I've not reached 50 yet, so whether or not I'll change stuff around depends on how this combo plays at higher levels, but as far as I can tell this build should work prett well. It's very expensive though.

It has softcapped S/L/E defense and 233% global Recharge. With T4 Agility Ranged defense sits at 43.6%, and Energy defense at 58.9% (practically the Incarnate softcap).

I'm noticing a lot of these builds are using Hami-Os instead of IOs for the same function and higher % effect. Pardon my ignorance here, but... why?

Your very first statement, that Gravity/Time is hopeless for solo, is where you went wrong. Gravity is a pretty good single-target damage controller, and it is a bit weak on AoE control.

Look at Gravity: Crush does single target damage. GD does single target damage. Lift does single target damage. Propel does single target damage. That's four of your nine powers do single target damage with single target damage the main purpose for two of them (Lift and Propel). Most controllers only have two or three powers for single target damage.

Your AoE control consists of the usual AoE Immob and AoE Hold, plus Wormhole and Dimension Shift. Even with the changes, I'm not convinced that Dimension Shift is worth taking. Wormhole is a fun power, but a bit on the situational side. Wormhole was made MUCH better with the recent change.

I don't have time right now, but this build needs some major work in my opinion. I'll try to give some suggestions later.

EDIT: The various builds being posted are all level 50, fully IO'ed out builds. Personally, I think folks need to learn the basics before having a fully IO'ed out build. There are a lot of personal choices based upon playstyle. Learn to play the character and learn your preferred playstyle before you make a "final" build.

Some folks feel that a build MUST have capped defense. Others feel that a good team-focused build is better because it will help the team kill stuff faster . . . and why do you need Defense when teammates are drawing the aggro while you control groups? I tend to be in the latter group, but acknowledge that a high-defense build can be good, too.

I didnt focus on defense... Held stunned mobs arent hurting me..

The only thing I might change is the immobilize.. I might slot it different.. but i figured loadin it up with Procs and spamming it was the way to go.

I suppose I should make this clear. The build I posted is the character's current state in game. I've actually played him all the way to 50.

I said he's hopeless as a solo because frankly soloing is a boring trudge that I could probably speed up with lift but since the last time I had it the power sucked I didn't bother. (this was prior to the recent Grav changes) I haven't had issues with surviving, just taking out opponents. The defense buffs are PBAoE, and primarily for the benefit of my team mates, not my character. The same goes for the leadership powers.

Does that make better sense?

Other than the APP, which is a flavour thing a lot of the time, Airhammers power choices and build seems pretty close to what I'd do although I'd take Temporal Selection much sooner and things like Distortion Field are way overslotted for my tastes (but I see why it's being done).

If you're looking to take enemies out then slot Propel and Crush for damage (and/or replace something with Lift; replacing Crush with Lift wouldn't be a bad idea). At the moment any attacks you do have are unslotted, which explains why you can't solo.

I fully agree, and I don't normally build for softcapped defense on my other Controllers (except on my Plant/Storm), but with /Time it's almost too tempting not to. You mentioned that Grav/ is light on AoE control, and though Mechalith said his character has no trouble surviving I suspect that's almost entirely due to /Time (and skill). With all the other buffs and debuffs flying around in teams a critter's hit chance will probably be in the single digits anyway, sure, but to me that seems like a very good reason to somehow get a few percent more defense to stack with Farsight and completely floor their hit chance. I know it's not really necessary, but if you can easily build for it without sacrificing recharge or control... well, why not?

Mechalith, going by your live build I think you also have some endurance problems when Chrono Shift isn't active. Get Hasten to help with its recharge and slot your attacks for some endredux. It's even more important than the endredux in your toggles.

Interestingly enough, (primarily due to the proc on Performance Shifter I think) I haven't had much trouble with End post level 45. I nearly ran dry last night running +3x6 when we grabbed three spawns at once by accident, but that's been the first time in months.

It's a good point RE: Chrono Shift though.
