My setup's a bit more exotic.
I have a server rack set up behind my desk with all my network equipment bolted onto it.
Plus a shelf to set my computer on and get it up off the floor. This way my desk remains free for whatever other clutter I accumulate.
And when I need to put a DVD/Blu-Ray/CD in, I just reach through my monitor area.
The phone's a VOIP system tied back to my office at work.
Across from it in the opposite bay are my webcam and my NAS.
Right next to my desk is my TV and Blu-Ray unit.
This setup isn't totally convenient. But it's relatively clean and easy to maintain.
My main computer, currently down for the count due to hard drive failure, alongside my fiance's:

OK. Here's mine:
Since we're sharing...
Hyper and Serial...thanks for adding!!! GREAT stuff!! Hyper...LOVE the big screen tv literally two feet away!! And Serial....yours wins for funniest of ALL time!!
I'm getting some great ideas here!! Can't wait til the new Alienware gets here so I can start playing as a dualCOHer !! Will be taking some of all your ideas and putting them into place!! Especially that additional footrest idea from Serial !!
Clean set-up there, ZWill!!!! Love it!!
Keep 'em comin, guys and gals!
For some reason I just know I'm gonna get laughed at for asking this, but...
Z, what do you have 2 mice for?
I'm sure one mouse is for the boards and the other is the "special" mouse...it shuts down all purple recipe drops the second I log in and turns them back on the second I log out. ;o)
PS...I NEED that desk, ZWill!!

How does your fiance not have carpal tunnel syndrome with his wrist bent like that all the time for his mouse?

And wow! Your sofa has a pull out snack table? |
That's an IKEA desk if I'm not mistaken. I had the same model desk from a few years ago when the legs were bolted on differently. During a recent IKEA trip, I noticed the same model desk but it had a different leg configuration like in Zwil's screenshot.
If I'm right, I can say with utmost confidence that the desk is without a doubt the heaviest piece of furniture I've ever lifted. |
Oh, why not?
Here's the desk of this gamer girl. Probably atypical since I am also detail obsessive and a neat freak.
1 - DIY desktop computer built to play City Of Heroes.
2 - External hard drive for file backups. Used weekly.
3 - UPS. Saved my computer at least once so far in the last year.
4 - 24" widescreen monitor (1920 x 1200 resolution)
5 - Wireless keyboard and mouse, the latter on a circular water-looking mouse pad.
6 - Left: decorative pewter figurine of a winged cat perched on a locked tomb; Right: iPhone, my computer away from computer.
7 - Left: life notes (my version of a journal); Right: picture-a-day calendar of wolves, an experiment this year since I don't usually use desk/wall calendars.
8 - Comfy chair! The key ingredient to a great gaming desk that is most frequently overlooked or skimped.
9 - No, the pedals do not offer any significant exercise. They amuse me, especially while listening to upbeat J-Pop tunes during a MSR, so I keep using them.
10 - Decorative light I enjoy but usually forget to turn on.
11 - Below: Neatly coiled and tied audio cable. Sometimes when I have the house to myself I listen to music on the monitor's build-in speakers.
12 - Ear buds. House rule is you can listen to whatever you want as long as no one else has to.
13 - Marble coasters for edibles to protect desk from moisture and heat.
14 - Top left drawer for current craft project, lip balm, and hand lotion.
15 - Bottom left drawer for desk supplies such as pens, stamps, computer cables, hanging files, etc.
16 - Right cabinet looks like it was designed for a desktop computer, but it has such poor ventilation I use it for half-finished craft projects instead.
17 - Right side of desktop used for transitory projects like sorting mail, paying bills, and papers to archive.
Here is what my desk looks like when messy...
What the camera didn't show well is that the computer monitor has five windows open on top of the CoH character select screen, plus a dozen more minimized. iPhone is displaying the City Status app by Kitsune Knight.
Like SerialBeggar, I like comfy warmth, thus the slippers, throw blanket, and stretch knit gloves. Items on the right are taxes and the novel "Shades Of Grey" by Lisanne Norman; the former I am happy to let accountants read while the latter is my idea of light reading.
The paper and hook in front of the keyboard are for the loom project sitting in the top left drawer. Why yes, I multi-task. How did you guess?
Looking forward to seeing how you design your gaming setup, Justice29!
It's pretty damned heavy. Great desk though, and very uncramped.
I particularly like the profile of it. |
I bought a similar looking pedal "exerciser" thing too in an attempt to keep my legs from atrophying since I spend so much time on the computer. But the space under my "desk" is too cramped. I don't have enough height for my knees if I sit at my normal distance. I can use it if I move my chair way back, but my shoulders can only maintain my cantilevered arms for a short while.
Oh, and I think we have the same HP monitor too! I recognize the glint off that useless alleged ambient light sensor on the upper left corner bevel.
