I rarely show off art here, but...
Very cool!
I like... everything about it! I was going to point out the poses... and then the setup... and then the water... But yeah... everything.
And...
...Something about this mental image had me painting nonstop like a woman possessed and it may be the best thing I've ever made.

Very nice! Tap into that demon more often...
EDIT:
Oh, wow, looks even better on DA. The one in the post is a bit blurred/compressed. Very very nice, Flashpoint.

They scare me. |
if your interested though take a look at this. I pushed back the first contest to start in April to give me time to move to/get settled in Japan

I can understand, I've had only minimal luck with commissioned writing myself...

I'd think about it, but I don't know the first thing about any of your subjects and if I don't feel like I have a good understanding of the subject... you know, that might be why I don't take commissions, now that I think about it.
Re: Everyone else - Thank you I can only hope that this quality eventually shifts closer toward being typical, because it really, really isn't right now! |
but anyway...I tend to think in terms of levels:
Talented - can just do it, doesn't necessarily understand why something works, just intuits it
Skilled - can do it and understands the reasons behind why things work the way they do
Professional - can do it even when you'd rather not, can do it consistently
Master - does it as naturally as someone talented and understands the reason behind everything done
I tend to look at talented as being something of a head start sort of like leveling with patrol xp on a permanent double xp weekend, because with enough effort you can get to the higher levels without it (the only thing you can't teach is ideas and imagination, really)
in any case, you are clearly talented...the collection of tutorials you reference below tells me you are skilled. So you're well on your way to being a consistent artist.
granted, this is just me speaking...I'm a layman from an artist's perspective (despite the amount of stuff I commission every year), but I like to think I know how a good image works....

Level Up!
Very impressive piece. My only critique is the water scale. Around heroic character, (i think it's sea squall) the water is thrashing about but you have it as a sort of bubbly weightless water type appearance. I think is fine for the levitating villain but around the hero it looks a little off to me.
It reminds me a bit of pouring water from a pitcher around miniatures to simulate a flood the water lacks the scale of the miniatures. It doesn't spray churn and foam the same way. Water scale is a pet peeve of mine, the old movies where they sink a miniature titanic give me fits.
Overall though it's a very good piece of artwork. I especially love the storm in the background.
Roxy On DA...Finally!
Very very nice work. I like it a lot.
The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.
Very Awesome--going to add to faves on DA

The water around Wavebreak is like that because it's supposed to look like the tentacles are thrashiing around and whipping it into foam.

This is a fantastic piece of art! Wish I could post on this board from home yesterday when I saw it. It really does feel like CoH world, raised a notch.
Great hero/villain combo. And amazing water effects.

For me this ties with your three menders piece for the best in your gallery. Great expression on the villains face.
If I were to point out a few constructive things quick I would suggest you go back in and soften (or blend or lower the opacity of) the pencils layer a bit. I've been doing this a lot now in my trad penciled/digi colored pieces and it really makes an noticeable improvement. Also the hero seems to have no demarcation between (what looks to be) white heeled boots and white tights. Some kind of line break or cuff would help.
It is possible in-game to make leggings and boots flow into each other seamlessly. I don't know the toon make-up. But it can be that this is how she should be.
I love this art! Great job!
