But for things like Statesman's death, there must be a name attached to the killer that will apply to the whole game world and any future content that's spun off from the event - a character that important can just be killed by "one or more unknown villains" - anyone that cunning and powerful instantly becomes a target for the Freedom Phalanx and all the other heroes to hunt down, which means that a fixed character is required to be the killer.

Interesting Thread.
I'm sure the dev-authors would be esctatic to know it evoked that kind of response, OP.
While I can certainly appreciate and even applaud the result for you, I didn't
have a similar experience - perhaps I'm too jaded, or it was difficult for me the
player to separate Stateman the character from Jack the Blessedly Gone, or, the
story simply didn't grab me as much as you (although it has hasn't bugged me
quite as much as it has some others).
My first thought was ("Whoa - States just got 2-shotted before he could even
defend himself at all").
Given the number of times my toons have been summarily whacked in the STF,
color me more than a little envious of Darrin Wade at that point.
As it happens, neither Darrin or Ruladak were especially troublesome for my
Blaster, so basically, at the end, I was left wondering where States left his "A"
Game ... or even his "C" or "D" game for that matter...
SSA-6, I outright hated - on so many levels, I can't even describe... Ultimately,
Manticore is depriving some village somewhere of a highly qualified Idiot, and
while Psyche is well-loved in game lore, in game mechanics, I was totally ready
to kill her myself. After that experience, I can see why she married the blathering
bonehead who killed her - they deserve each other.... Gah! /endrant
I really did enjoy the rescue Psyche's mind arc tho - some interesting mechanics,
maps, and story... It's probably my favorite of the bunch on Blue Side, and the
Midnighters and Rulu-shin arc was also good, but the EB at the end was downright
nasty.
If you've not run Red side yet, I won't spoil anything there, but I personally
liked those arcs better - The early ones actually made my villain *feel* like a
villain for the first time in a very long time. Yes, *I* did the deed - gladly
While I share the "wtf? How did a mid-level loser like Wade flawlessly pull off a
plot of this magnitude and scope?" feeling with some others, I'm really hoping
I get to smear him on the wall in the last one for treating my toon like a subservient
lackey and dupe" -- We'll see if the devs run with that motivation in the last
arc or not.
I'm glad they added the SSA's (new content is always welcome in my book),
but, if I start to look at things closely, I find too many flaws, discontinuities and
complete non-sequiturs to evoke the kind of response you had.
That said, I'm glad you enjoyed the SSA's, thanks for sharing your experience.

I've been rich, and I've been poor. Rich is definitely better.
Light is faster than sound - that's why some people look smart until they speak.

Two Phalanx members dead, one who's gonna be real screwed up, the rest looking to the geek for leadership, and the Vindicators lead by a pissed off Ms. Liberty.
And all incomparable to ME. As I'm the one that's gonna take Wade down, because I'm the only one he's really scared about. (Others say "no, *I* am. Says so right here!" Yeah yeah, I know...) Yep. Shapin' up to be an interesting year in Paragon. -- I am really, REALLY looking foward to seeing this get wrapped up, but... I am NOT a fan of Psyche's death. Nosir. Not at all. Not that I was a fan of Statesman's either, but really... this one was... horrible to watch. /Placing bets on whether Manticore is going to be dead next. //Also placing bets on if that happens to pass on whether it'll be Gladiator style "gonna kill you first and watch you die... THEN I'll die, happier and sated." |
Sister psyche (not that she's around anymore), Numina, Synapse, and Siege are all their own sorts of "Geeks," too, but hey whatever :P Seems like an odd thing to point out, is all. Only reason they aren't considered "More," geeks is because some of them are either ho (Numina and Psyche) or they don't "Act," geeky enough (Synapse) or are just too badass/a robot (Siege). Except Posi has had some pretty badass moments too o.o
I'm a geek. And geeks can lead, sure, I've done it. And I've had plenty of RL badass moments too. So back off, awright?!
I'm just sayin' he's a geek. A technogeek. Doesn't mean anything, really, but it seems to mean a lot for you... goodness, I'm terribly sorry and all. Honest. I didn't really mean to be disparaging, just... well, he's a geek, man.
/Well, and D_R's story about him and his girlfriend didn't help... but that's not canon.
//Yeah he did reform the Phalanx, but didn't take charge of it. I think that's probably because as the thinker, he knew it should be Statesman, and left it at that.
///I would gather that's changed with the RL stuff as 'rules making' stuff, but really, BAB or perhaps Numina might be a better choice, sure, as a *leader*, which would allow Posi to do the geek thing and go think up cool stuff.
////No way Synapse does it though. Too hyper.

I appreciate your comments about the arcs, and am definitely lookin' forward to the villain side to see the differences! Thanks for not lettin' on about them... just yet.

Reed Richards would have to agree...
Maestro Mavius - Infinity
Capt. Biohazrd - PCSAR
Talsor Tech - Talsorian Guard
Keep Calm & Chive On!
...What's Arachnos's take on all this?
All the potential futures we've seen presumed Statesman was still around. Hell, in many ways, Statesman's destruction would be the final thing between Recluse and the world. I don't imagine Recluse crying, as such. But you know he's pissed off worse than any Villain about 'How did this no-name PUNK?!...'
Should have been Recluse. Or set up by him. Or anything like that.
This is coming from the outside, mark you. Can't play the arcs.
This is separate for a reason, bear with me... AAHH, THERE'S A BEAR IN MAH HOUSE!!! *flops down and plays dead*

*opens a wary eye....*
Is he gone? He looks gone... whew...

Ok, enough silly.
I am writing these two entries, the OP and the one above, as I am playing with Homeslicer. Reactions would be the same for Ruby Dawn or Rose Dawn, my heroine 'troller 50s.
However, my purely evil incarnate (or she will be incarnate one day) Cerise Dawn, 50 Dom?
Yeah. I'll have to see what I'd think about that. I don't think she'd survive the arcs very well, to be honest, she's not a solo artist. I may have to team with her.
So... I'll run them with Thing of Bigness, my 50 SS/WP brute on Guardian, and then think about what Cerise would think about it all. Big wouldn't care, he's a lot of "Big SMASH" and is stupid.
But Cerise... yeah... that'll be interesting to see.
I understand they're maybe slightly differently worded, so don't spoil it fer me. I just know that as a Hero, it's a tragic series these last two. I am wondering how they worded it for Villains.
But that'll be later.
K, Peace out.
