Question for HyperStrike about GTX460

I see three of these cards on New Egg and my untrained eye cannot discern the difference. I see that one is Superclocked. I also see that two of them are 192 bit ( one of them being the overclocked one ) and one is 256 bit..

Which of these should I be looking for? Also consider that if the price on these do drop as expected I would strongly consider buying two for an SLI set up (although in honesty I waver back and forth on that a little).

Again thanks in advance for all the help!!!

I'm not Hyperstrike, but when I do a side by side comparison, the main differences are the core clock, shader clock and effective memory clock speeds - plus the 256 bit adapter is "3D Vision Surround Ready". The first one in your list doesn't have as high an overall customer satisfaction rating as the second one (the superclocked one) but has 25 ratings, the second one has a great overall rating but has only 10 reviews. The third one has only 4 reviews...

Don't know if that was at all helpful, but there you have it.

Bad analogy time.

What pumps more water, a pump with a standard speed motor supplied with a 1" hose or a pump with a faster motor but only a 3/4" hose?

Back in the day, the 192-bit GTX 460 was 5-10% slower than the 256-bit one when both clocked the same (675MHz) with the same speed memory (3600MHz). And no it wasn't because the 192-bit one only had 768MB while the 256-bit one had 1GB.

The one on the bottom uses a 256 bit bus. The others use a cheaper 192 bit bus. If you REALLY want a 460, get the 256 bit bus card.

I used an EVGA GTX460, and it did well, but I wasn't able to run 100% full-on Ultra Mode. I now use an EVGA GTX560, and I have all settings maxed.

If you can, I'd suggest waiting a little longer, and saving the extra money to get a 560.

Lets not forget that there are 3 560s.

560
560 Ti
560 Ti with 448

If you want a 560, get a 560 Ti

If you can afford to wait a little bit (and save up some) see if you can save up for the 560Ti.

nVidia's new refresh is on it's way and should drop prices on current cards a bit.

Uh. WHAT?

Which one?

The 560Ti?
The 560Ti-448?

And why?

I could POSSIBLY see there being issues with the 448 (since it's a 570's with some of its processor cores turned off because they didn't pass Q&A).

But other than that...

I haven't heard anything bad about the 560Ti. The 560 is configured as an overclocked 460 and the 560Ti-448 as Hyper points out is a cut down 570.

If you can, go with a PNY graphics card.
1) They're usually cheaper than EVGA.
2) I've always had excellent result with their card, extremely reliable and simple to set up.
I used them for my first ever build, because of their cheaper price and included extras, and have used them since. My experience with EVGA was not as good, especially the dead motherboard supposedly from a "brand name with higher quality".

Buying EVGA is like buying Chevy when Toyota is cheaper with better mileage and the same or better reliability.
(hopefully, not a bad analogy)

Don't buy "brand name" over reviews.

I steered clear of EVGA because of pricing for a while - then with my last graphics card purchase (August of 2010), I found an EVGA with a lifetime warranty at a competitive price. I bought it. I haven't seen them offer lifetime warranty for a long time since.

I'm pretty sure PNY offers that as well. I know my current GTX 465 had that, free of charge.

Yep, it was a pretty bad one. You got the car company brands reversed.

As far as what branded video cards people should get, I only suggest what *I* actually buy.

There is really two camps go by.

1. You get whoever sells the video card is the cheapest since your going to be running on nvidia/AMD drivers anyways and the quality of the parts won't matter.

2. You pay more for better components on the board and warranty.

Ultiimately, whatever you buy, you're stuck with it.
