My favorites are the original Star Wars trilogy, followed by Raiders of the Lost Ark, followed by Jurassic Park (love the end theme of that movie).
(Sometimes, I wish there could be a Dev thumbs up button for quality posts, because you pretty much nailed it.) -- Ghost Falcon
Jaws for me, in some ways it redefined how music is used with film.

If I could only pick ONE?
The "Force" theme from STAR WARS, in any of its iterations throughout the films.

Little story here... I've loved his music nearly all my life (seriously - I began collecting film scores when I was seven years old). I was nine when RETURN OF THE JEDI was released, and the one piece of music I remembered and wanted more than ANYTHING was the duel where Luke loses it and beats the holy hell out of Vader. But that track was never released on any rendition of the score.
Then in college, my boyfriend at the time saw this 4-CD set of the original trilogy's scores, and knowing how much I loved the music (and wanted this track), asked the guys at Sam Goody (does that date me or what?!), "Is this one track on there?" Not really being score fans, they weren't sure, so they got a copy of the movie, fast forwarded to the duel, opened the box set, and checked both the RotJ CD and the Unreleased Music CD to find the track. As soon as he knew it was on there, he bought the set and sprinted to my apartment to be there when I got out of class.
To say I was thrilled (and appropriately grateful) would be an understatement.

But he's done so many, many brilliant scores, so some of my personal favorites include:
HOOK
HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN
MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA
EMPIRE OF THE SUN
RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK/LAST CRUSADE
SCHINDLER'S LIST
Long may he wave.

I just can't pick any one musical score that I find to be my favorite. All of them do such a wonderful job of immersing you into the story. Watching one of the many movies with his scores in them is a treat in and of itself.
The Star Wars scores will always be favorites; it's probably the first movies that I felt the power that a good soundtrack can have to making a movie that much more. I really started noticing music in movies after my experience with these; good music can make a bad movie better and a good movie great.
Cheers to you, John Williams; may life's song always be as brilliant to you as your music has been to me.
I find your lack of signature disturbing.
My personal favorite is Jurassic Park, but there are many excellent choices out there.
Aside from his tunes being just plain catchy, I am impressed with the way they integrate with the films in which they are featured. Williams is an illustrator in music, rendering a film complete without overpowering the rest of its elements. I wish there were more people in the arts with that same talent.

Close Encounters, ET, Superman, Star Wars, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, AI, War of the Worlds... I mean, seriously, you can't just have one.
Sigh.
If I just *had* to pick... Ugh... picking one... how droll...
Superman. That has a ton of awesome themes. Supes has *two*. Lex, Lois, Oits, Krypton, Zod, Ursa, Non (yes, just that short scene), and the action... the powerful emotional scene when Supes realizes Lois is dying, gets there, is sad, gets mad, decides to 'fix it' regardless of what ol' Dad Jor-El says... and the quiet elation of Lois being alive...and mad...
That score rocked the house. But it is not the only one.
One of my two very favorite composers. The other is Jerry Goldsmith. Star Trek: The Motion Picture is just *fantastic* in every way. And the Explorers soundtrack is simply marvelous in it's dichotomy of styles. So fun. And so I'll say this:
Happy early birthday to you, Jerry! You'd have been 82 this year, tomorrow! Which is totally awesome that these two were back-to-back on bein' born days.
And of course, happy birthday to Mr. Williams. Once more 'round the sun, sir!
/Ok, I geeked out a little. Sorry.
//Will there be a thread for Jerry specifically?
///Danny Elfman is my third favorite. He's on May 29th.
////I'll just leave this here: http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com/page...composers.html
/////but I'll say I don't exactly agree with their order... it's jussa list to me.

He's turned 80 as of today. So which movie had your favorite John Williams music?
