Elec/TW Tank

I've got a Elec/TW tank, who's just hit 40. So I was thinking bout slotting up a bit now and then finishing the rest when he hits 50. I've worked out a build for him that I quite like, even if it has a few things I'm not so keen on to achieve what I wanted. He's got 90% on s/l/e, and 60%+ on n/f/c/p. So should be quite sturdy.

Things I don't like bout it are needing a pvp set to get the last bit of s/l res to hit 90%, def isn't as high as I'd like, and manuevers is underslotted and having no taunt. Hopefully you guys can help me improve it and make it as good as I think it could be. I ideally would like to get taunt in there somewhere, and keep 90% res on s/l/e. Any help would be greatly apprecitated and I hope this tank will become my first ever lvl 50 tank

That is one crazy build. Unfortunately I don't have access to my Mids for another week as I'm out of town, but I have to say my 50's build does not look like that, and my elec/tw tank at tier 3 x 5 incarnate is already more uber than my tier 4 x 7 elec/ss. Off the top of my head, I can say I would drop that crappy elec field aura thing and take taunt, you're a tank, not a brute! Second, I don't have crushing blow, found it unnecessary for chaining. Must have hasten, must have cj, I don't have leadership. All my AoE powers, (include spring attack) are 5 slotted with scirroco's, not 6. Toggle primaries are 4 slotted (end rdx, 3 res) I don't slot (wouldn't say never but darn close) any res sets, just generic IOs. Sorry, that's all I can recall off the top of my head. I'm sure others out there have their own uber builds, but WEI TAI TAN is a killing/tanking machine on Guardian.

Took a stab at a positional defense build. Melee Softcaps with Defensive Sweep while Ranged sits at 31.6% and AoE 32.9% (1 luck within softcapping). 95% acc versus +4s. Has taunt and 90% s/l/e resists with Resilient - though you could go Cardiac and Barrier to maintain the resists and help with the enduse. Has 70% +rech before Hasten.

Not 100% sure if I like this build or not, but at least this should give you something to think about. It gets you within one purple of s/l/e/n. some decent recharge vs. end usage, although with the FF proc going off I'm not sure if you'll have endurance issues or not.

Anywhosit, take a look and see if this a. works for your, or b. give you any ideas to incorporate into your build. Hopefully this helps a touch.

After checking out you guys builds, which has helped alot thankyou. I've come up with a some adjustments to the build which has pretty much gotten it to how I want, expect for one thing. still no taunt sadly. I could fit in taunt if I got the +3% def pvp io and replaced FA with taunt, but I won't be able to do that for awhile. Here's the new build I've come up with.

Ok, I can see a relative need for either hover or CJ. Since tw is whacky in the air, cj seems less... whacky. However, I do not see how you can say "you're a tank" then say "must have hasten" in the next breath. I'm a scrapper and have 0 problems not having hasten. In fact, having crushing blow fills out my attack chain so I am _never_ without something to smash on some mob. Hasten has an irritating end crash. Further, it doesn't speed up the rate at which you are making attacks within momentum. At best you can shave a few tenths of a second off a power during momentum, thanks to diminishing returns, which is not enough to squeeze another attack in, or at least one of the ones you seem to be hoping to get by speeding its recharge.

I am definitely not sure about the not-taking-taunt bit. I mean, that's like one of your foremost tools... so I agree with this posters assessment everywhere except this hasten bit.

Hasten is for Energize



Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

This is the build that I've gone with so far, my tank GraveBreaker has just hit 47 and I'm a bit torn. I thought to myself 'Ah! I'll get Stealth and put a LOTG 7.5% in it at 47 then Hasten at 49!' then realised that I've already got 3 power pools!
The slots I get at 48 are already taken by Lightning Field and Follow Through. Gah, decisions!

Hasten and Rend Armor. Rend Armor is AMAZING! It does insane DPA!



Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.

Problem there is... I'm a Tank. Whilst Damage is nice, I'm there to hold the aggro from those who can't soak it. I've gone with Hasten then Conserve Power for my final two powers anyway.

However, when I roll a TW/ELA scrapper.. then I will take damage, damage, and more damage!

Your mindset among tankers is the reason I can peel aggro off just about any tanker with my DM/Invuln scrapper when fighting AVs and GMs. Only so much can be done with Taunt, Gauntlet and Taunt in powers. The rest is determined with damage. You have to deal damage along with those three other taunting parts that tanks get in order to be able to hold aggro in extended fights.

Besides, what self respecting tank wouldn't pick up KO Blow, Foot Stomp, Siesmic Smash?

Anywho... This is my proposed build for my Elec/TW Tank.

I want to be able to do well in I-Trials. Hence the aid self inclusion. I am planning on using Darkest Night + selective lucks to keep myself softcapped to range. I am not too concerned about AoE. I am soft capped to melee with one def sweep. :/ I feel it should be better... but I can't seem to get it any higher. (I also want as much HP as I can fit in)

I think the idea of BM is that you can clear most of a spawn in it's duration (or at least have the mobs on their backs alot) which is enough mitigation to not necessarily need Aidself.

I would put in a vote for BM for the reasons above and my own experiences with my TW/EA brute. However, Aidself is perfectly viable.

One of the main reasons I fell in love with this game was the fact that I did not need to drag some one else a long to watch my health bar. How can I fully trust some one, possibly in a room across the world to watch my health, when even I sometimes miss it myself. I-trials has several spots where you need a healer and that is something I am vehemently opposed to. I will do everything in my power to avoid needing some one else to watch my health bar for me.

Here was my first build for my Elec/TW tanker, so far I've kept to the build , he is now 48. It has 37% defense to S/L/E/N on top of his resists and power surge. Energize rechargers in 48 seconds.

However, this can be changed a little, I was going to go Agility Core, which would buff his defense to 38.9 and boost his end recovery and recharge. That being, I was considering dropping power sink or physical perfection for hasten, even though it already has about 50% global recharge. Either way you go, there is some room for tweaking. Even dropping a slot somewhere and popping the Glad +3% defense io somewhere. You could also change the slotting around in physical perfection for more endurance if I need. So far, I have found this build quite sturdy (since it uses a lot of lower level IO's he's already quite slotted) and a lot of fun.
