I haven't tried that. I stuck the set in Whirlpool thinking the chance to kd was universal to all powers with kb for the duration of the chance. If I'm wrong I'll def take a look but may still end up dropping F5 for WJ for the reason I listed. When I solo, kb isn't the reason I don't use it. The end use is. Although, I'm wondering if the frequency of WJ returning will cause me to use more end over time then F5 will.
I think in the time it took F5 to recharge, I could use WJ at least 2 times, maybe more, depending on my chain, for roughly 7 end compare to the one time I could use F5 for roughly 5 more end. Which isn't bad if you ask me. But still. That's 5 more end that I'm not sure I want to use on a power that "might" not kb-kd. And if it's getting nerfed, while 40% is still really good, it may not be worth it -to me- to keep the power. But like I said, I'll check it out and see if my feeble mind can be changed.
Thanks for the heads up though. I do appreciate it when other stormers interject their thoughts and expericences with the set and I'm sure the fng's to the set do too. -
Quote:Welcome to the 1st real "project" of your CoH life.I have not played a Storm to 50, I do admit! And as my WB/Storm is almost 50 I'm realizing the end problem. My S/L Res is Soft Capped, so I don't feel like I need Force of Nature. I do hate crashes >.< And I've never taken a power like 'Conserve Power' because I feel I could save that power slot for something else, and just take Cardiac for my Alpha Slot. Do you think that would remedy my end problems? Also as a storm player, what is your opinion on Lightning Storm? Between dropping Freezing Rain, Whirlpool, and usually a Tornado, I don't normally have time to set up a Lightning Storm as well. Is it bread and butter of the set? Or am I right to skip it.
Yes. crashes suck. But all you have to do is bolt once you see FoN start to blink. Wait a few secs for your end to recover and then proceed to hammer away. If your asking about CP fixing your end problems then the answer is yes...sort of. It cuts down on the end cost of all powers including the toggles for 90 secs I think. But it obviously has a duration timer so once it's run it's course, your end "problems" return. It's just the nature of storm. I just got the Atlas accolade and it is very noticeable in terms of end recovery/use. Working on Portal Jockey now and I "should" be fine going forward.
Lightning Storm is awesome. Kinda like a clouded blanket of kick butt watching over me whilst I whittle away at the vics. I would never, ever drop Freezing Rain. That there might be the "bread and butter" power your looking for. All the debuffs it provides makes it a top notch power. In fact, anything that has a -res component in it is top notch to me. I'm keeping Whirlpool simply because that gives me 2 patches of nastiness. I'm thinking alot about BaF's with these 2. Throw in LS and uber yummy. But they are also (minus the -end part) very solo friendly.
So far I'm running content on 0/6 and I think I can push that to 8. My set up is as follows. TF, PBU, the 2 patches, Geyser, LS, my 2 attack aoes and then the ST's if there is anything left. By that time, my end is probably a bit below half. Time to munch on some blues or hit CP. FoN usually only gets used if I am getting overwhelmed and need the xtra +res and +rec. And keep in mind, FoN is +res to all damage types (including Toxic) except for Psi. Sure while I'm setting all this up I'm gonna get tagged a few times. Might even get stunned or held. But Bf's are my friends and I don't mean boyfriends. And they usually don't stay around long enough to finish me off because the AI is set up to, "Run Forrest! Run!", when they feel the ticks of FR and WP tickling life away.
I am actually thinking about dropping Tornado for the 1st time ever in favour of Water Jet. I'm finding that once Hasten winks out for the 15-20 secs or so that it does, my ST/AOE attack chain kinda falters. I also mainly use F5 against AV's/EB's and a "gtfoom" me panic button. Which, unless I'm running an arc solo that has an AV/EB, I don't use it. On teams I rarely ever use it and when I do I usually have 1 or 2 escape excuses ready in case the team wants to confuse each other and come after me (how they would do that I dunno...).
Sinister hit it on the money with Hurricane too. I really hate this power and wish it didn't have kb in it. But if you just ever so slightly touch the groups, then usually just the minions or anything that doesn't have any kb pro/res will get knocked back. But. They will all get kissed by the -tohit, I think. And that in turn adds to your def. Which is why I didn't bother soft capping anything. PBU+Hurricane+def I already have makes me pretty hard to hit at range.
Key points.
1. End mitigation any way you can
2. Accolades. Easy to get but time consuming. Get the Atlas Medallion 1st since it is the easiest and I promise you, you will notice a difference. Not game changing, but you'll see it. Portal Jockey is the other one to shoot for.
3. FR and LS are 2 of your best pals. Hurricane is the ugly duckling but can be very useful.
4. See no.1
Last note. Hurricane detoggles once you get mez'd. Just be aware of this and you'll be fine.
~Storm's the source, man. It will change your life Swear to God.~ -
1st let me say awesome! Another Water/Storm corr. 2nd. Probably won't see many of these around and for the main reason I'm gonna list. END. In another post just above this one, I let it be known that /storm/ is an end killer.
Looking at your build kinda made me feel that you haven't played a storm char before, or have very little experience with the set. Just on toggles alone, you are burning 2.52 end/s. Then the actual powers come into play... You will be hurting and quickly hurting at that. Water is no slouch in the end use department either. I too initially went the positional defense route (just for kicks). But after looking at the build and already knowing about storms lust for end, (I have 4 or 5 storm chars) I quickly scrapped that idea and just tried to grab as much ranged D as I could. My main focus went back to end use.
You took the Power epic set but didn't take 2 of the more important powers in the set. Especially for storms. Conserve power and force of nature. I know FoN crashes which is contradictory to my end beliefs, but while it is active, provides you with some end relief. If you don't know what they do check em out. I don't have time atm to really dig in deep on this, so I'm gonna post the build I went live with on Thursday. I'd also suggest that you read the other post and see if it helps you any.

One thing of note on the badge and plaque locations. If you don't have the map pack installed, then finding them can be a bit difficult unless you are a /loc guru or very familiar with landmarks and the surrounding location of the badges and plaques. Vidiot maps (the 2nd link I provided) is where you can download the map pack.
Good luck! -
Vel in the 2nd post, covered alot of ground on changes to your build. Keep in mind though what I've said about end red and end mitigators. Visit the market and look up the Recovery Serum. It has 5 charges of +recovery and can be purchased as many times as you want/need.
I've redone your build and below is the result. Even with the changes (and there were many), you are still going to be sucking on end. You could swap out fire blast for flares. Over time flares does more dmg since it activates faster. Also easier on the end. One more thing to bring up is accolade hunting. There are at least 3 accolades that will significantly boost your end mitigation but not so much so that they well eliminate your endurance issues. You can locate them in mids in the upper right hand corner tagged as Accolades (off or on).
Visit this site for a complete list of the badges required to "make" the accolades listed in mids. http://www.badge-hunter.com/
Visit this link for the badge locations in game.
http://www.badge-hunter.com/index.php?/page/maps.php
Some of them are time consuming but the end result is worth it. Can also be pretty fun when you are hunting. The best part about badge hunting imo is that they take you to several locations, zones etc. and you can familiarize yourself with them. See places you never knew existed. Find little hidden spots like the one in Faultline. Reading the badges and plaques also tell you the lore of the game. Alot of the TF's that you can do along the way can help you in accumulating said badges.
Anywhoo. Here's your build reworked as I would slot it leveling up. This does not mean that my way is the only way or THE right way. It's just how I slotted my Fire/Storm when I lvld him up. Didn't mess with slot changes much. Tried to keep it as close to what you had but as you can see, end and acc concerns were addressed. And again. Some of the changes that you will see are what Vel had suggested in the 2nd post.

Quote:If you want to build your /storm/ around O2 Boost and have it for those JIC moments, by all means, have at it. IMO if the OP is only gonna team 5% of the time then no way in hell should he/she take O2. CJ is far more valuable than O2 will ever be on a storm char. Or almost any other power for that matter. Since you don't have any mez res/pro at this point, CJ at the very least, will keep you from getting immobilized unless you get stacked on. It can also be used as a proc or unique mule. Karma kb comes to mind. So does Kismet's+Acc IO. There are others. Not saying it is a Fire/Storm's *job* to heal, but if no one else on the team has a heal and heals are needed then it is what it is. You either have a heal and try to do your best, or you don't have a heal and no one on the team has a heal.
Probably a more common scenario would be this: there's someone else on the team with a heal handling most of the HP issues. In that scenario, O2 boost allows you to do spot healing to fill in gaps, or help out folks with mezzes. If you are spamming O2 boost, there's a serious problem with them team. It is a good tool to have in your toolbox. I think it is a little better than afterburner, which in a SO build basically only helps you travel faster between missions . . . I can't imagine it being the difference between success or failure on a team.
Since you don't plan on teaming much, you won't have a ton of slots in O2 Boost. I'd personally go with a recharge, precisely because you don't plan on using it a lot (but when you do need it, you want it to be ready). Hollows makes a good point that it is an endurance hog. I know you don't want an IO build, but if you had 2 slots in O2 Boost and put in (for example) a level 25 Harmonized Healing Heal/End/Rech and a Triage Heal/End/Rech you'd get essentially the same enhancement value as a Heal, End Reduction, and Recharge +0 SO (3 SOs worth of value in 2 slots). This technique is called "frankenslotting", ignoring set bonuses and just using set IOs to eek out extra enhancement value.
I'll say this again. It is not a storms job or objective to be a healer. If a storm player is thinking when he/she starts his/her build, "You know. I should take O2 Boost, jic I'm on a team that doesn't have a healer.", then they are already doing it wrong. Stop. Re-roll an emp or some other "healing" AT. I just can't in good conscience recommend taking O2 unless you are shooting for rchg bonuses (Doc Wounds) or have no other viable power to pick.
If you do take it however, I still would recommend an end red enh (or 2) in it over rchg. Using it just 2wice uses at base 26! (unslotted) endurance. That's nearly 1/3 (I think. I suck at math) of your base total for endurance out of the gate. Slotted once for endurance reduces the end use by only 4ish. Slotting it 2wice for end nearly cut's it in half, or just 2 points of end reduction more. Useless imo. Factor in the blasting and the storming and you are gonna wanna quit storm cold turkey faster than you thought it'd be cool to take O2 in the 1st place.
Young Tutor did make a viable suggestion for slotting O2 if you did take it though. The 2 IO pieces he suggested could probably be bought for less than 100 inf uncrafted. I'd start the bidding at 5 and see what happens. Not sure what the salvage prices are for those 2 though. Afterburner is a great power (for me). I think it's more than just a faster flight power booster though. In a tight sitchiation, it can increase your def by nearly 13% unslotted. That's pretty good. But then we're getting into sets here and that's not what the OP wants at this point.
To end. If you want to take O2, no one will hate you for it. But i just think there are better powers to take than that since 100% of the time you will be soloing 95% of the time. -
In regards to the heal (O2 Boost) in storm. It's base end cost is 13. 13! For a single target heal. I get that it has some mez, end drain and perception properties but you took fire for your primary and storm for your secondary. Both are heavy on the end. Never mind fire for a minute but storm is very hungry for end. Storm needs end. Storm craves end. With all the end that storm uses, do you really wanna be a potential heal bot as well at the high cost for end and the low amount of healing it provides? Not saying you would, but there will always be a chance that you wind up on a team where you are the only one with a heal. Pugs can be a nightmare orrrrr, they can be as breezy as a cool wind across the nape of your neck. Visual, I know. Even regular teams can catch a powdered b**** slap every now and then.
Your job is NOT to heal. Your job 1st and foremost is to fire blast since that is your PRIMARY power set. You job SECONDARY to your primary job, is to debuff and cause as much chaos as you possibly can. That's what /storm/ does best.
Fire blast is also heavy on end. Packs quite a punch and it's damage is 2nd to none (I think. BR puts out great dmg as well...) so the end cost will be high. As was already stated, you need to slot for end, imo, 1st before all else. Maybe accuracy comes close, for if you can't hit your target, you are wasting end. This is just my personal preference. There are ways to help you with end use, like visiting the market and getting the temp end powers there. Stocking up on blue inspirations. And I think most important to all of this is, knowing when to use your +end mitigators. I rarely ever let my end drop below half. Testing this solo is the best way to feel out your strategy and play style.
When I leveled up all of my /storms/ I pretty much hated life. I always slotted at least 2 end enh and 2 acc enh in every power that I could. Yes. Even LS with its high base in acc. But not the patches. They get 2 end and maybe if I'm feeling froggy, 1 rchg.
I view storm sets as a challenge to make them work and work effectively with as minimal end use as possible. Storm sets, unless you take other mitigating powers for end, are not sets that you should really care too much about having alot of recharge with. The faster your powers return, the more end you will use. And if you miss your target due to being -tohit debuffed, same deal. More end used. Even with all these precautions taken, yep, storm still loses end faster than a virgin loses...well. You know.
Most skipable powers? Personal preference - once you find out what you CAN use and what you CAN'T use to help accommodate the end drain. For me? O2 is an easy choice for reasons already stated. Snow storm even though I love that power, usually gets skipped. Another high end cost toggle that I don't want or need. And thunder clap. Unless you have another stun power this is an easy choice. Really cool sound and animation though...
Well. That's those are my thoughts at least. I make no claims that this is the way ALL stormers think or even play, but I have played them long enough to know just a few things about how I would and do play and slot them. As a final note, if you can go the Incarnate route, Cardiac is a life saver. Just sayin.
Good luck.

Contacted support from both the game and Samsung and unfortunately neither helped resolve the issue. Ncsoft provided a link that led to a driver that isn't compatible with my notebook. Not their fault. Samsung did provide me with an updated driver link that also did not fix the issue. So either I was provided with a faulty update or the issue is something else entirely.
One thing of note however is that I was able to play longer after the update before I crashed. I was able to get in 3 Mag trials and half of an MLTF before the game crashed. So maybe I'm on to something. Thanks for your reply. -
Thanks. I'll check it out and ask if this post cam be moved there.
I submitted a game advisor ticket so hopefully this will further help the ball roll. Thanks again Rajani and Hyperstrike.
Thank you for moving this. Could the other posts I made in the player help forum be deleted please? I sense the hounds circling. -
I tried to include the dxdiag all in one post but it wouldn't take (I made a separate post about that) and it was suggested that I break it up. Which I did. Then it was suggested to take all of the posts and put them into my OP. Which I did. I wasn't sure what was needed and what was garbage.

This has been going on for about 2 months now. The computer (laptop) is just a few months old but crashes very frequently. I'd say in the neighborhood of about 10 times a day depending on how much I do play. I thought it might be because I had my browser, stat tracker and fantasy cast open, so I'd close em. Nope. Still crashes. Any and all help/suggestions would be swell. Below is the dxdiag. This will be broken up into 2 posts, hopefully.

Quote:Woot. That worked! Didn't even think about looking under the base. Had a wall torch and 2 floor lamps in there. Looked really cool, but so annoying that I couldn't break the wall down.I don't think that will work if there is an item obstructing or imbedded in the wall.
What I usually do is scroll my camera out and angle it from underneath the floor of the base in edit mode. Then select the offending item and delete it.
If that fails, I usually go into the "current room" tab (you need to be standing in the affected room), scroll through the mass of crap until I find the offending item, and "sell" (delete) it from there.
A note about the "current room" tab: it adds items to the end of the bar/list as you add them to the room... So it's kinda time-related. If you placed something early on in your decorating, it will appear at the beginning of the bar/list. If you *just* placed something, it will appear at the end of the bar/list. If you know you placed a few other things within the same time frame, you can look for the same "group" of items to find the one you need.
Hope that helps a little.
.
Thanks so much! And thanks to all that replied. Also had a few piles of dirt in the way as well.

Kinda new to base building and was trying a "light in the wall" effect with a torch I think. Thought it looked cool how the light appeared to becoming from inside the wall. Now I don't want the wall anymore but can't take it down. Any suggestions or fixes for this?

Quote:Wow. Just...wow.One of the main reasons I fell in love with this game was the fact that I did not need to drag some one else a long to watch my health bar. How can I fully trust some one, possibly in a room across the world to watch my health, when even I sometimes miss it myself. I-trials has several spots where you need a healer and that is something I am vehemently opposed to. I will do everything in my power to avoid needing some one else to watch my health bar for me.
To me, its like building your character assuming that some one else is going to buff you. 'I don't need to soft cap myself, some one else will soft cap me. I don't need recharge, some one else will SB me. I don't need to be endurance sufficient, some one else will buff me. -I don't need to be able to take care of myself, some one else will-" -

Here's the build I'm going for. I wanted to put Spring Attack in, but not sure what I'd drop to take it.

I'm having a good time with the macros. My char gets some chuckles when he goes into his disco dance macro. He's dressed with the Roman Crest 5, Roman Cheek Guard 2, Roman Lorica Segmenta, Roman Vanbrace (skin), Roman Greeves (skin) and the Barbarian Loins (skin, don't remember what they are actually called). I have a helmet but can't remember which one it is. Game is down now so I can't check. Thanks again for both of your help.
-
Thanks for the 1st piece of advice. Didn't know that about that site. Luckily I didn't have it saved, just searched on it. But thanks none the less.
Tried out both of the macros you made and the "Bourne" macro works perfectly. Thanks
The 1st dance macro however doesn't do the disco dance. It immediately goes into the back flip while changing costumes. I inserted disco dance in place of back flip and only the dance happened. No costume change and no back flip. I assume that's because back flip is an actual costume change emote and DD isn't. Even flip flopped the emotes and only the flip happened. Assumption again is the same as before.
The 2nd dance macro works perfectly too. Thanks for that.
And another thanks for taking the time to answer my post.
