Question on EM

I was going through my toons today, and found one I haven't played in a long time. I mean since the "changes" to EM. He was always a fun toon to play, but with the changes, it just seemed his damage potential went down. Way down. So I was curious, with the way that tanks now debuff with their tier1 attack, and the advent of Incarnate powers, could he be retuned to a semi decent damage dealer?

I was thinking adding reactive interface and muscular alpha might help?

Am I wrong?

Willpower has more passive regen than Regen does. Who thought that was a good idea?

Can we get a fix for Energy Melee instead of more new sets?

EM does decent damage for what it is. It's not in the bottom tier of sets, so if you want to play it, do so.

What would you consider 'Bottom Tier of sets'? Ice Melee? Battle Axe? War Mace? Elec Melee?

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

EM has one thing going for it, it has the single hardest hitting tanker attack.

The cost of this is -HP, the lowest AoE damage of any set and the longest animating tier 9.

In a game where Fast/AoE damage is king, that one hardest hitting ST attack doesn't really matter all that much.

And yet, EM still can do okay. I would certainly argue that it could use some buffs, but it's not nearly so bad as some would make out, especially since they are still so upset about EM being nerfed way back when.

ST damage is pretty nice... I think some forget that when they rave about AOE cutting through swaths of minions. There are plenty of bosses and EMs out there that are nice to take care of quickly, too.

Playing Elec/Elec I can say that there is a point where you ache for good ST. It's one thing to vaporise a spawn on your own in your opening three hits, but then to spend thirty more to deal with one of the two bosses is painful.

I like EM on my brute, but didn't on the tanker I rerolled to make him. The ridiculosity of ET is fun. Unslotted it was my most damaging attack, and with a couple slots... BAM!

The power selection order for EM on tankers is my biggest gripe with the set and why I wouldn't roll a new tanker with the set. Getting TF at tier 7 on a brute makes the set much more enjoyable/playable than on a tanker who gets it at tier 8. The slowness of the attacks is less issue for me since I mostly solo, but simple adjustment of tactics lets me get good use out of TF and ET on teams.

It's definitely a different, unappreciated kind of fun being able to crumple a Freakshow Tank (or other boss) like he's made of paper.

I'm a bit late to this party; however, I'm not sure if you're talking about Energy Melee or Electric Melee. If its Electric Melee, I absolutely hate it with a passion.

If it's Energy Melee, I am loving it. I am using it on my Electric Armor tank that is now a 32 lvl. The damage is good; however, I've loaded up a number of stun enhancements to take advantage of the disorient effects. I do enjoy seeing a boss stunned. I've stunned Tyrant in the mish to free Statesman. That was awesome to see him wonder about aimlessly for a moment. LOL Nice thing is I've not obtained Energy Transfer and Total Focus.

I'm not sure about taking ET simply for the fact of transferring hit points for damage. Since I've never used this power set before, can someone educate me to the value and what this actually means to a tanker in way of damage vs loss of HP for this power. I'd appreciate it.

Current active characters: Dragon Maiden (50+3 Brute SS/WP/PM), Black Widow Maiden (50+1 Night Widow), Catayclasmic Ariel (50 lvl Defender - Kin/DP), Quantumshock (50 lvl Elect/Energy/Energy), American's Defender (38 lvl Tanker - SD/Mace), Spider-Maiden (15 lvl Corruptor - RB/PD) & Siren Shrike (15 lvl Defender - Sonic/Sonic). My entire stable.

EM already is a "semi decent damage dealer."
Incarnate powers etc can upgrade it to "decent."

The only real problem with EM is there's nothing particularly outstanding about it. Which is fine. But more than one other set has something outstanding about it. So it makes EM seem lame by comparison.

The fact that it deals mostly energy damage makes it better than a few others to me.

Combat Kangaroos, Justice Server. First 50's
Jirra Roo Plant/Storm/Stone/Musculature Controller
Combat Kangaroo Rifle/Energy/Mace/Spiritual Blaster
Kung Fu Kangaroo Martial Arts/Reflexes/Body/Spiritual Scrapper
Tribal Arc Shield/Elec/Mu/Spiritual Tanker

It's actually pretty balanced between Smashing and Energy. Barrage, Energy Punch, Bone Smasher and Whirling Hands are all mostly smashing with a minor energy component. TF and ET are 2/3 energy 1/3 smashing.
