How about a little active policing of RMT Spamming?
I find it funny that they are level 2. It suggests they at least run through the tutorial

Every time I have visited Atlas Park Wentworths over the last few weeks there has been a predictable looking level 2 spamming Local, sometimes 2. I didn't think /ignoreasspammer was doing anything because the same guys where still there a couple of hours later when I finished my session. However people assure me that it does get them banned eventually.

You mean besides the fact that:
|
It's as easy as doing a search for odd names like xxckklj
Not all of them hang out in Atlas, Iv'e seen them in every WW from time to time, with names similar to sdjfhg, ccvmmkn, ghkklkj, you get the idea.
Ignoring anyone is a mistake. You might miss something viral to your cause.
Only time I really see them is WW and I don't really pay them much attention.
If you want to report them each time, just delete whoevers the current oldest in your ignore and then fill it up with the new person. Most likely the oldest person in the list is banned by now. But I believe all those accounts are brand new and temporary anyways, so not much point in giving them that much attention. I mean their global names are stuff like "@gogorjggh"
Also I've seen GMs park in Atlas Park before.
I couldn't log in on that toon for hours becaue of it. I'd rather see RMT spammers than that again >_>;

How many letters and numbers are allowed in a name? How many permutations is that?
Just look for double C's right? So "Flame of Mecca" is okay to just DC?
Maybe double K's right? Mekka Kitty doesn't need to stay on right?
Double F's? No need for Handcuffer!

Use Ignorespammer. More effective than anything suggested here.

I'd see your facepalm and raise you one batglare
-but-
I'm not here to insult people.
I'm here because I hate the RMT's
It's one thing if NC doesn't have the resources to dedicate to a constant policing, I can completely understand that. <If that's the case, then say it is>
It's another thing entirely if someone somewhere has something "going on" that would invoke prevention on eliminating a side business involving the purchase of inf. <a symptom of trolling>
but I'm not here for that <it's a horrible situation when a guy called "Hassenpheffer" has a point>
I'll stick to the /ignorespammer as I always have.
It does work, but it requires the masses in order for it to work.
I just wish that I didn't see this spam every time I dump my salvage at the market.
Maybe I should just start deleting it and avoid WW altogether.

Except that these guys are not limited to Local. They're using the Help channel as well, which does not require being in a high traffic area at all.
They can't afford to have someone live monitoring areas/chat channels, even on a limited basis.
Maybe I should just start deleting it and avoid WW altogether.

For someone who doesn't want to put up with the crap in the auction house locations, it's like a gift from god/the gods/Bob/the Spaghetti Monster/Joe Pesci/etc.
both of your points are valid.
It's going to be a while before I get my /AH.
I dunno, its just... I feel like I get something disgusting on me whenever I see them near.
Ewwww I got RMT presence on me!!!!

You know we could as a community help solve this problem by doing a little of the policing ourselves. How many people here would be willing to spend a little bit of their time, 15 minutes, to work with everyone else and go through the most common RMT hang out spots and use the tools they have, IE: /ignorespammer. This only works though if everyone works together and at the same time. You just need someone more capable of organizating it than me (I can't organize 3 books on a bookshelf). Hell you could form a league to do it. 16 people should be enough. It won't stop them all but you can stop a few of them.
Work in progress no more. I have decided that I'm going to put my worst spelling errors here. Triage Bacon, Had this baster idea, TLR

What you mean players providing a community service like the Taxibots or Search and Rescue? That's crazy talk man. So crazy it just might work.
To make it work they'd have to be undercover or the RMTer's will learn to spot them and wait for them to leave before spamming, or move just out of the Local AoE and spam there.
So no SG membership they can learn to recognize, no common uniforms, no Anti-RMT character names. Players would have to avoid establishing patterns. If the same level 50's keep showing up, they'll be spotted and recognized. Then the RMTers will either move and spam in another instance/location or wait for them to leave. (I've seen this happen in STO and CO when GM's show up to nail RMT)
The group could use Global Channels to organize since RMTers can't tell what channels players are members of, and global channels can restrict membership to invite only.
The SPAMKILLERS global channel. You mention the name in the channel, and everyone tags them as a spammer.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
Nice! I'll be adding that to my global channels list.

Thats why you have responsible and sensible channel moderators that kick jerks that try to abuse the channel like that. I personally think the spamkillers global channel should be listed in a sticky post in the general discussions forum as a way of helping the community self-police the RMTers. It could become a City of Heroes version of the neighborhood watch.

What he's referring to is a group of players getting together to grief people. STO had that problem right in the beginning with this same report spammer feature. Now it was never confirmed or denied but some people believed it was a group of players from EVE that were doing the griefing and abusing the auto silence feature with phony petitions. It took GM intervention to stop the abuse.
|
Exactly. While I don't REALLY expect it to be a problem with our community, the potential for abuse is horrendous.
Then was was "If they'd just go into WW in AP" a suggestion of?
Yeah, they MIGHT run into a spammer every now and again. But, essentially, what you're asking is that they take up residence.
Why? Because intermittent visits aren't any more effectual than responding to reports of RMT spammers.
