Sure they do. We just make them associate with us Yanks. Whether they like it or not.

Why do people continue to defend such downtime? It baffles me given we are way beyond the launch of Freedom to be subjected to such crude downtimes which is not the norm.

Yes.

While, the dev and community teams at Paragon Studios definitely enjoy poking a little fun with fake news on April Fool's Day, this is November, so that's not the case here.

Sigh.
Actually, they have. They avoid doing major patches this close to the weekend because, as has been mentioned, it generally means that some folks (or perhaps many folks) may need to work through the weekend in order to address unforeseen issues which may arise.

This should serve as an indication that whatever they are patching is something that needed to be addressed quickly. As there are no glaringly obvious major bugs directly related to most recent patch, this probably means they discovered some sort of exploitable hole which they felt the need to plug quickly. This is further evidenced by the fact that there haven't been any "Check Out What We're Giving You Today" announcements, as far as I have seen.

There is one reason why I21.5 wouldn't come on Tuesday next week - Thanksgiving is Thursday.

because it means they are actually doing something to either a) add content or b) patch stuff, both of which are good things

This. I finished two essays for uni yesterday, a few days ahead of the deadline, to have a few days off before it all starts off again. I wake up this morning and notice that it's going to be down from 2pm to 8pm. Leaving me with nothing to do because all my friends are still struggling on with their work. I don't get to play much as it is.

Fun times!

When Freedom first launched, and they were so constant, consistently going overtime, and even then not really seeming to accomplish anything, yeah, that was unacceptable. That said, it's been a coupla months now since we had downtime like today's, and there's reason to believe, or at least hope, that this is the fairly major i21.5 patch.

When it ends up being something minor, then, yeah, I think a "SIX HOURS!?" gripe may be suitable. But given the context, this time around, at least, it is more or less defensible.

Thanksgiving isn't next week, it's the week after.

I would be shocked if Media Blitz is being pushed out today given that there are some unresolved issues.

Eh, gives me some time to pre-download a game that's about to come out on Steam without it slowing down the game.

Be honest now. Is it... 25?

While I would normally be antsy about having to wait for such a long down time... Today I decided to take advantage of it...

I'm baking cookies! Got Chocolate Chip... White Chocolate Chip... and Oatmeal with Butterscotch morsels...

Been looking for my grandmother's peanut butter cookie recipe but haven't been able to find it yet... so those are pending...

Yes, I plan on passing the down time on a sugar high...

My mind wanders so often you've probably seen its picture on milk cartons. - Me... the first person version of the third person Steelclaw

I'm not seeing anything available for download in the patcher/launcher, so I'm thinking it's not a patch at all. That might not be correct, but usually anything for the clients is available earlier in the downtime.

Given that the announcement mentioned patch notes, one would assume there is a patch, though if the updater isn't catching it yet...it's possible we'll see it canceled until next week, or that the maintenance may run long.

If it's one of a series and the theme is song this time is sung by a barbarian choir in dragon tongue then to avoid headaches tomorrow I suggest you ensure your windows has the sound card set for 24 bit 48000 Hz and not 96000 Hz.

You can't find it cause I burned it. I am highly allergic to peanut butter, so if I were to accidentally steal a peanut butter cookie while I was stealing all your OTHER cookies, it could be fatal. You wouldn't want my death on your hands, now would you?

I'm not technically defending any downtime this game needs to keep operating.
No one really needs to defend a matter of fact.

But by the same token I'm not willing to delude myself into thinking the amount of downtime this game is currently "suffering" through is excessive in the least. Sure any downtime sucks and always will, but trying to hype up the idea that what we're being subjected to is unreasonable now (or ever) is just silly.

If you're looking for an excuse to quit I'd suggest you find a more valid one than this. *shrugs*

Just checked - closing the window won't trigger the download, you'll have to end the entire process in your taskbar and reboot to download the patch.
