Katana
Katana does pretty well using the right attack chains and slotting. It may look low, because each hit tends to do smaller damage than another primary, but the animations are very fast. So it'll be small numbers, but a lot of them very quickly. It may be worth slotting some damage procs as well.

My Kat/WP toon is a BEAST! Try to go for as much recharge as you can and get the heavy hitters attack chain down.
The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.
At the 40's you're going to fight a lot of Rikti, Malta and Carnies. Carnies are fun, they aren't as resistant to Lethal and make for some amusingly high hits.
Everyone else, on the other hand, are resistant. Arachnos resistance varies by the mob, Malta is pretty high across the board with everyone else falling in the middle.
I see longer fights with Malta than I do with Carnies because of this on Broadsword.
Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It's the transition that's troublesome.

thanks for the input! it makes sense lower hits but faster animation, ill try different attack chains up my recharge on my stronger attacks
With some simple (possibly expensive) slotting...2 Purple Sets w/ Procs (GC and GD) with a -Resist Proc (GC) and DMG Proc (GD), and likely just 1 DMG Proc in SD, if you obtain the chain of GC-SD-GC-GD, that's looking to be over 180 DPS without using Build Up.
Since you're WP, I'd suggest Masculation Proc, which would put you over 200 DPS. Add in Reactive and I believe you'd be around 230ish.
Now you may need Spiritual to obtain the chain depending on your build. So Masculation may be out of the question, but 180 DPS isn't bad at all.

According to this post, http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=132894 which is old mind you, but still not too inaccurate, katana is one of the lower DPS scrapper primaries by itself. However it's also one of the fastest primaries and with a little abuse of inventions and the reactive interface slot, it can easily be one of the top DPS builds. Maybe not the top, but very close up there. And in return for having slightly lower DPS katana gets an amazing, stackable, defensive power that can turn any scrapper into a solid tankier with just two stacks.
Slot for on hit effects though. Because Katana attacks so often it has a better chance of getting the damage procs and -resist/-defense procs from inventions. This is a huge advantage over BS and most any other slower attack set. If it's 75% chance for a DoT (Like reactive in the interface slot) and you attack say 5 times in the same same everyone else attacks 4 times, you've got a way better chance of proc'ing the DoT and getting more stacks down.
Hecatomb +chance for Neg dam and achilles heel +chance for -20% resist is a huge DPS boost for katana scrappers who can put that in GC and us it a ton. I instantly noticed the DPS boost when I put those in. And I noticed a solid dps boost when I got reactive unlocked.
You might not see as high of numbers on a katana scrapper as on other toons but you build him right and he'll have a hell of a good DPS.
How does Katana do with dps against the other primaries? Ive gotten to lvl 44 so far with my kat/wp and my damage seems to be alittle lackluster. Can someone give me some input on what makes this primary shine?
