Lag or comp prob

It seems the game has become VERY laggy for me lately. And if the mobs are huge and there is a ton going on my game client will lock and crash. I thought maybe it was the video card drivers not keeping up but I updated those and still have the problem. I thought maybe I should dial back the graphics settings but even with those clear down to performance I get the same issue. Nothing else has changed as far as computer configuration. I am running a high end machine (6 core AMD processor, 2 gig Radeon HS vid card and 16 gigs of ram and a solid state drive).

Has anyone else been having similar issues? As a last resort I uninstalled the game and installed fresh last night. It didn't download all the way before I went to bed though. So I will try that tonight.

Is it just lag with all the new people or are there other things going on?

I've noticed some the last few days, last night was really bad (8-10pm central US time). The kind of lag I'm getting is like when you activate a power and it takes 2-4 seconds to actually execute, or a power icon has the activation animation circling around it until the next time I use it, or it shows available but isn't really, etc. I also sometimes get enemies jumping around the room if a lot is going on although that wasn't common. It is like the lite version of a crowded rikti invasion.

It isn't so bad I can't play but it is annoying. I have not had client lockups though.

I mostly get a full lock up when doing an AE front loaded ambush mish. I usually pop both ambush objects and get all the baddies on at the same time. Once it reaches a certain amount it locks hard.

It was about the same time you were talking about last night.

To verify - what version drivers are you using for your video card right now? Cat 11.9 is the most current one and lacks the issues the 11.5-1.8 drivers had require those of us with AMD cards to use 11.4 or prior.

It's an ASUS Radeon HD 5770 so I got version 8.782 from the ASUS site. I will have to check at home tonight to see what version of the driver was bundled with that.

So it looks like the ASUS site bundles an older base driver for the ATI chipset. My steps to fixing the problem.

1) Uninstalled the game (might not have been needed).

2) Install the newest updates from ASUS for my graphics card.

3) Install the newest driver from AMD for my graphics card.

4) Reinstalled the game.

Everything seems to be running fine now at full ultra mode.

Cool, glad that worked for you.

For me the worst lag is in Atlas, First Ward, and zoning in and out of itrials. I'll almost always dc, get a massive 60+ second lag freeze, or get mapserved. I have a new video card and the latest drivers, so I already looked into that.

This is almost universally the case with 3rd party branded drivers. It is almost always better to get them directly from the OEM (Nvidia/ATI/Intel).

Also, you don't know how long that box has been sitting around. With anything like this (video card, motherboard, etc), assume that the included CD can best be used as a coaster under your drink. Always download updated drivers.
