MA: What Powers to Skip?

Hey Scrappers

It's been a long time since I last felt the rush of Scrapperlock and I gotta say I miss it. So I'm looking into an MA/Regen Scrapper. But I'm wondering about Crane Kick and Eagle's Claw. I've heard they can actually be a detriment to overall DPS. Between trying to give Regen a decent amount of Resistance and Defense and taking travel powers for concept (Shapeshifter with animal forms) the build's lookin' tight. I'd like to remove powers where I can.

So, is it worth the time to take Crane Kick and Eagle's Claw or should I skip 'em?

Cobra's Strike and Crane Kick are functionally identical for D/E/R, one delivers KB, the other Stun.

Eagle's Claw, while having less than optimal DPA, has STYLE and grants a Crit bonus to your next (queued) MA attack. I love EC followed by Dragon's Tail on my MA/Inv, but a Self-Empathy may not want to be as surrounded. It is also delicious when EC is followed by Crippling Axe Kick or CS(K).

If only room for one, I'd hold onto EC over CK, even on a Self-Empath... I don't wanna chase my toys more than I need to. You could easily drop both though, and not suffer heavily. Finally, if ya just need a throwaway 49 power... Grab CK and Drop a level 50 Acc IO or an Acc/KB. Hilarity results.

Heh, 'Self-Empathy."

This is more than reasonable advice. I could make a case for skipping both crane and eagle, if I was looking for a more 'street' martial artist, and the DPS of MA is not terrible.

Also, if regen is not set in stone, may I suggest electric armor? It has a damage aura, and like regen, has no taunt aura, so the runnin' will be about the same.

I skipped Thunder Kick, Crane Kick, and Warrior's Challenge. CK can be swapped with Cobra Strike, but it's a matter of do you want to chase enemies or stun them. Pick which works best for you.

With high recharge (you're /regen, you better build for high recharge), my attack chain on single targets is EC -> CAK -> CS. In big messes, it's EC -> DT -> CAK -> CS. SK is just there if I get slowed or bored and want to off a straggler without overkilling too much.

SK - CS/CK - SK - CAK is the best ST DPS, which you must have the recharge for, if you can go EC - CAK - CS. So, just curious why that's the ST chain for you, or is it just about the animations?

Just curious, cause Storm Kick I consider a great animation

You realize that EC -> CAK -> CS -> SK has higher DPS than EC -> CAK -> CS?

Storm Kick is also, by far, that best damaging power in the set.

That said, EC -> CAK -> CS -> SK has relatively low recharge requirements and is only 5 DPS behind the top chain. By having EC available you can also use EC -> DT to boost your AoE with extra crits.

I would skip Thunder Kick (Does around half the DPS Storm Kick does) and Crane Kick (The knockback effect can be bothersome). If you do want Crane Kick for concept and looks, just slot it with 2 acc/dam HamiOs and a dam/end IO... Or all KB IOs. Pretty funny seeing Hellions flying across Atlas from time to time.

Is that DPS including EC's increased chance to land a critical? If not, EC-CAK-CS-SK could be better than the SK-CAK-SK-CS attack chain.

I saw your Rikti Pylon thread post awhile ago and 68 seconds is amazing even if Lore pets were used. I could not crack 100 seconds using SK-CAK-SK-CS and T4 Warworks Core. The attack chain could have been a contributing factor along with Cimeroran Lore pets.

It includes the bonus crit for the next attack. SK - CAK - SK - CS is mathematically superior, even with EC's increased crit. Storm Kick is *that* good. It just requires a lot of recharge which might not work with your particular build.

Oh well, if the EC-CAK-CS-SK is only 5 DPS less that the best, I'd totally sacrifice the 5 DPS for the more awesome chain! EC is YUMMY!

Thanks for the responses everyone. Figured I'd go ahead and post my build. I've never IO'd either set before so I could really use some advice on the specifics, particularly in regards to Defense. It seems like the amount I can manage is trivial and I wouldn't mind dropping Weave to get Stealth in a lot earlier.

As always, I appreciate your feedback.

Drop Stealth, grab Maneuvers, 1% more Defense, minimally higher End Cost.

Pull a slot from FH and Health, 3 Slot Integration with Healing, preferably using Numina's.

Pull the Numi Unique and slot from Int and drop into FH.

Consider sets for your Defense, EndMod, Resist, and Healing powers.

Winter's Gift 20% Slow Resist in Flight, the flight enhancement does nothing, you're capped the moment you turn on the power.

There's my quicky thoughts. Also, consider exporting Data Chunk as well as link, some (me) prefer to copy/pasta instead of downloading.

I did not realize that Cobra Strike was raised from minimal damage to HIGH. Jeebus. I had it just for the stun and was happy with it. Right now I've got 2 Heal enh's on IH, even with the tiny return, largely because I had nowhere else I felt I needed 2 more slots. I figure why not squeeze out those extra 7.5 HP per second.

The idea of doing yet more damage is appealing and all, but but I really do not want to respec again. Wish they made a cheaper/quicker way to do a partial respec just for your slot allocation without changing powers.

IIRC the stun chance was reduced from 100% to 75%. FYI.

That explains a few fights then. Still, 75% chance for a Mag 3 stun is still worth having. That plus EC will throw most bosses and even some elites for a loop. And if that fails, I can take out the stun baton from my day job in a pinch.

Were I not already in such solid control of the hurt locker door, I'd respec to add 3 Dmgs onto CS, but the process takes so long and I've done it twice since coming back now. Feh.

My tweak on your base build, lil' better numbers, but not much more defense, gimme a bit on a stronger stab at a Defensive Self-Empath.
