Team PVP Questions
"Standard" jump team is usually 2 Emps, a Rad, and 5 Blasters (usually Psy/Em). There is a fair amount of variety with some teams adding another debuffer/disuption (Cold, Poison, or TA usually) in place of one of the Blasters. Some teams are having success with Earth/Fire Doms as their damage. No real spot for Kins or Sonics any longer.

Leagues depend on the player base. If people want to pvp after this league there will be another. If not expect a wait of a few months.
Tk is banned because it was making for lame matches where no one could evade.
2 emps does matter what type. 1 debuffer usually rad or poison. 4 or 5 dmg so usually psi ems. Then possibly another debuffer or disruption. But this is just the fotm, you can make other things work kind of like how we changed to doms from blasters.
How does the dom team fare? Damage spike wise i mean, how effective is an all dom spike?
Also, say I had the required number of members to play each match, could I create my own team for the next league.
Lastly, when I played there was a d6 and d8. Is that still the case?
Yes you can create a team no matter who you are as long as you have enough.
The all Dom spike is an extremely tricky team to play I don't recommend it for anyone besides ware.gov
No d6 just one team
The lack of range hits it and Blaster damage in general is better but the control offers some new wrinkles. There are some natural (I think) counters to it that I haven't yet seen tried in large part because they aren't fotm, but if other teams go in this direction the meta will shift.
Not to inflate anyone's ego but I don't see anyone but WARE running this successfully for a while.

I tried it with another team in the last league and it just didn't work against the other competitive team there running a standard jump lineup. (the Earth/Fire lineup) So its far from the "I win" lineup that it may come off as in this league. It has a lot of potential if your team can keep the pace going, but it also has much more of a chance of the target getting away with 25-50% HP with very little follow up to finish them off. Where as Psi/Em's have a lower ceiling because of the slow nature of the spikes, but they are also much more forgiving with 4 attacks with range up near 150, and delayed damage to create a mini spike with the attacks.
Tossing in a well timed mez will make sure that if the target doesn't die to the initial damage portion, you can catch them limping away as the Psi/EM's continue to blast away with their long range attacks.
While the easy answer is "Just go with Psi/Em" I feel like if a new team coming into things had to actually learn to close for a 50 foot blaze on the target (On say, Eden) , they'd be much better playing a blaster if they needed too. Success however, may come much slower if you go this route.
How does one go about starting a team? |
When does a new round usually begin, as I know this one has started. |
What are some of the team makeups being used currently? (When i did league there were psy blasters, a rad or TA, sometimes tanks, and always two emps. I'm guessing it will be 2x Ill/emps + 6 something else) |
Earth/fires are very viable, and while I still encourage other teams to try them, they are very unforgiving. You can't just fire late on the spike, stay on a person for 10 seconds, and eventually run them out of greens like you can with psi/ems. There is no follow up, and if you're late at all, you probably missed the spike entirely. All it takes is one Dom to be off point and it's near impossible to kill anything.
Why is TK banned? Is it bugged still on all ATs? |

Yeah the thing that makes the earth/fires more difficult is just that it requires more people to be on target. The range makes it more difficult to get on target on time.
Alright thanks guys. Great info. Now for the daunting task of following up with some interested people.
Yeah, as long is there is interest in organized PvP, leagues will happen... The flaw of organized PvP in this game beyond it's built in limits is that it requires all of the organization to come from the player base, and is generally not supported much by developers, sometimes they offer titles and stuff.
It doesn't take anyone special to do it really, I started this one and I was never a big-name and really didn't start doing organized 8v8 until 2 issues ago, just need a group of people to take the initiative who can gather feedback about what people want from the league and how people would like to see it run. It would be nice to see a return to the ladder format with more static SG based teams but I don't see that ever happening again, unfortunately.

Though, while I was a huge proponent of pushing a ladder to Test last time, and still prefer Test to live, I would not be opposed to a live ladder.
Sadly, this is true. Unless teams were to start taking a greater interest in establishing practice schedules and doing more practice matches, on top of having at least 3 more active teams, a ladder really isn't feasible.

I agree test would be far better but I think the turnout for it would be much lower, and at this stage of this game we can't really afford to turn people away because they won't move servers, and most people have their PvP toons on Freedom now anyways, although it would solve the issue of build limitations.
Running this league on test was something I considered but I'm not sure what kind of limits are on test at the moment, and I was pretty sure interest in moving to test would be pretty low.

I would love to see a ladder start, even if it is live. But I think we'd see less teams than we have now as teams dissolve to join their friends in other teams, etc. Really would need 8+, and if we went with what's out there now it would likely end up being more like 4.. maybe 5.

I wonder if the developers would ever consider adding cross server arena matches. Dealing name space collisions is trivial in an instanced environment like that and it would do wonders for arena.

That said, I would love to see a test ladder...... if test was not limited to VIPs (and I really don't know if it is or not)...

Also, we were lucky that so many people actually came back to this game for this league, since half the teams are made up of mostly returning players.

And no team would play against Ware.wolves so we would just be bored.
I've been PVPing for quite a bit of time mostly solo and 1v1 but now I am in the business of recruiting a few more casual PVPers into a PVP SG with the hopes of becoming more organized. Just read up on the official League 2011 page.
So now that I have a bit more time on my hands at night I have a few questions regarding team PVP and league as follows:
How does one go about starting a team?
When does a new round usually begin, as I know this one has started.
What are some of the team makeups being used currently? (When i did league there were psy blasters, a rad or TA, sometimes tanks, and always two emps. I'm guessing it will be 2x Ill/emps + 6 something else)
