So can freebs /friend?

Because now instead of getting blind team invites, I've been getting blind /gfriend invites. Presumably so that I can be spoken to on the friend channel, since no one that's attempted to /gfriend me is someone I know and I have not accepted any. I've gotten five of them this week, and have not gotten ANY previously from people I do not know.

Is this the new blind invite? If so, just give team invites to the freebs, this is obnoxious. Their hands are tied so that this is what they have to resort to?

It lets them chat like a tell without tells, and IIRC Freems can team on their own

Free players, and players that haven't got 5 Reward tokens (including the one that F2P players gets), cannot chat globally. To talk to the friend channel they have to use "/friend <charactername>".

Even if they are trying that, it won't work the way you are thinking it does.

Earlier everybody on unions channel reported getting blind global friend invited by a single player.

I dont mind blind invites . . . . so long as i know WHAT the invite is for Global invites however, i need to have known the person a bit first

@Damz Find me on the global channel Union Chat. One of the best "chat channels" ingame!

Just a note, since your wording was a little odd, /friend <charactername> is to actually place that character on the friends list. To talk in the friend channel, you actually have to use /f <message>. To talk to someone in your friend channel, you have to mutually be on each other's friends list (not gfriend list).

Why would it be a surprise that F2Pers, having been cut off from regular communication, would try a workaround?

Just wait until the RMTers discover the blind /friend loophole, if they haven't already.

It's not really a loophole. You have to be on each others friends list to use the friend channel.

I'm guessing the blind global friend invites are to get around people setting their emails to only accepting from global friends. I also got a blind global friend invite (as did half the people I was teamed with at the time - we were all asking if it was one of us) and the next day I logged on to find an RMT email from them.

I thought regular server level /friend didn't require both parties to be on their respective friends list. i.e. that I could /friend you and then you'd see me chatting on /f channel whether you /friend-ed me back or not. I'm about 70% sure someone communicated with me this way (I wasn't expecting it as I've never used /friend for anything other than checking available names, or monitoring when a disconnected teammate has come back online).

For RMTers, it's not a question of efficiency so much as of the barrier of entry. If only one poor sucker per hour mutually befriends an RMTer after receiving a blind /friend request, that may well be enough to justify profitability (given the cheap economics of RMT sweatshops). The only question is how many messages need to be sent out per hour to reach said sucker. If a F2P account has no limit for how many /friend requests it can spam per hour, then the loophole might indeed pay off.

Biowraith, you might want to remove that global name from your message, since it's against forum rules, but I would also urge anyone who gets an RMT message from anyone to ignore as spammer and/or report them using /petition.

Hadn't considered that, removed. And yeah, reported as a spammer.

Easy mistake to make: I very nearly just quoted your original post, which would only have compounded matters.

Actually after thinking about it, it is probably a way to get around the "block emails from people not on your global friends list" setting.

Yeah, that makes sense. I just recently turned that setting back on because RMT emails are starting to pop up again :-/
