My question what can we do to change the look and play of granite tanks? I mean i have 3 50 granites would love to customize them with color and the movement i can over come but the damage and recharge must be able to run even with other sets or am i just dreaming? I started out in granite and i wanna stay that way but even with great sets the damage and recharge factor is killing me please help!!!!!!!

There have been mumblings (recently from Tunnel Rat) that they might change GA to use a customization model that's more akin to the other armors in the Stone Armor set (ie: wouldn't replace your character's avatar wholesale, which is the current problem with adding customization to this power). BackAlleyBrawler spoke as much of such an idea when he was still working for NCSoft.

In short, it's on the dev list of "Things to Do", but don't hold your breath until you see something on the Training Room.

Also, Granite Armor is the strongest defensive power in the game. Of course it's going to come with a few offensive drawbacks. The movement, recharge and/or the recharge penalty can be made up for by using some IO sets, though.

There is no single power named Stone Armor. Do you mean Rock Armor or Stone Skin? I suppose running around with only Stone Skin could get you into trouble, but you can make a survivable build with Rock Armor.

'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.
'A cat may look at a king,' said Alice.

QFT. I've overcome some of the penalties with IO sets that give run speed and recharge bonuses. Obviously, slotting Fitness powers like Swift and Stamina, and taking Hasten will give you some mileage also.

My thought is to give Stone Armor users a choice at tier 9. You would choose between either Granite Armor 'Legacy' ( or call it Classic,' or wharever) and the new Granite Armor Custom.

No problem for existing toons because, just like when we got inherent stamina, you have to respec to choose the new Granite Armor Custom.

Hope they get to it sooner rather than later.

PS: Yes, OP there are solid penalties for having a power that can almost soft cap 6 typed defenses with one toggle and a few set bonuses and also have 75%+ resistances to boot. I do not think there will be any change by the Devs to that. I think allowing giant rock piles to step up/over obstacles up to 3 feet high in lieu of jump is the only movement enhancement we can hope for. The current ability to step up or over is just too small IMO.

To address some of the Granite Armor penalties, as already said, use recharge boosting sets and set bonuses that give movement or run speed bonuses (a lot of those only require two slots. EDIT: Doh GotA 7.5% run speed, one slot!)
I find the Musculature Radial Paragon Alpha the most effieicnt way to partly fix the damage issue while getting an additional speed boost and extra recovery. The Radial plus good slotting puts all of my damage powers at 120%+ Damage enhancement (119-128). My Stone/Fire is at about 160 DPS with that. Or you can try the Musculature Core - it takes the total to about 130% (127%-138%). I have both now and wear the Radial for general use.

NP The only issue I have with GA after some IO sets and taking the above powers is jumping, but there's no way around that without ~ 100 Kinetic users casting Inertial Reduction on you

Actually, huge difference from Stamina. They are not giving stone armor another power, just changing how it works if they customize granite. and as it would be changing from a costume model swap to a graphics effect, not sure if they could make I work like you suggest anyway.

True, Inherent Fitness and Fitness are two different pools, with different powers in their respective pools. To make an even analogy, they'd have to make an entirely new version of the whole Stone Armor power set to use this mechanic...

I spend more time out of Granite than in it on my stoners, and don't have survivability problems. Other than occasionally soaking alphas or holding AV aggro, I don't find Granite to be a requirement for survival, and on teams with incarnate-scale buff capability it's often more impediment than aid. I do love watching stoners with Granite on run in and try to tank psi AVs, though.

That all being said, building for set bonuses is the way to go. I don't bother with the +RunSpeed much, just because teleportation is such a flexible travel power, but my main stoner is one of only two characters that I've bothered getting the max # of purple recharge bonuses on.

I wouldn't shed any tears at a customizable version of Granite armor, either. Being forced to look like the runt of the DE litter is annoying.

And there is no reason for them to.

This would be like the old Team Recall/Singularity change shorty after original release - the power was simply changed, if you had Fold Space, you instead had Singularity (as I recall, the game still calls it Fold Space in it's unique ID). There is no way to double dip in the primary/secondary sets as someone could of with Inherent fitness.

As others have said, you're not ever going to see the damage and recharge and movement penalties go away -- unless Granite is considerably toned down.

I find it helps to adjust how I think of the character, as much as anything else. I envision an anvil, a pylon, a linchpin -- strong but nearly immobile.
