to be able to join a super group you must be reward tier 2, which means you must buy at least $5 worth of points to get a token
once your reward tier 2 your friend will also have access to tells, super group chat, coalition chat, 500 mil inf cap, and several other things

More specifically, you can earn Reward Tokens by any of the following:
1 per month subscribed
1 per year subscribed
1 per retail box code applied to your account (you can probably still find them cheap in stores or online)
1 for your first purchase of PP
1 per 1,200 PPs purchased

This is odd - if she had a copy of CoH at some point, she should have had a retail code on her account, which should have given her the second token already.
May wish to contact support about this.
