Shadowmeld

I wants it.

How far into the Rogue Isles (and by extension, the morality system), do I have to go to get access to the Patron Power pools (and the Arbiter missions to unlock them, I'm assuming?)?

This is for my all-hero Sword/Regen Scrapper. If I have to go full-villain, I'll feel dirty, but I'll do it and then come back ASAP.

Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.

If you want the villain toys, you have to be a villain (or a Rogue).

Posted

You'd need to go full Villain to be able to unlock them via the Patron arcs at level 35. Only Villains and Rogues can do Villain contacts (and to get to Rogue you've got to go through Villain).

Most of the Villain arcs are absurdly mild... you'd spend most of your time fighting Villains, anyways.

Unless they changed for i21, the Patron arcs can only be done at 40+. The powers unlock sooner, but you'll have to wait to do the arc, then respec. However, you get a special respec token for finishing the patron arcs, so it's not that bad.

Villain. Now, if you had started villain you could get them as a Rogue. But since you're a hero, you're going Hero->Vigilante->Villain, then you have to go Villain->Rogue->Hero to get to be a bluesider again.

Haven't tested it myself, but from what I've heard, they have changed it.

yeah, it changed. I moved my VEAT over to Rogue before I realized that VEATs couldn't get Hero epics. So I shelved him at level 35 and the Morality mission in the queue. I logged on for the first time with him post-i21 and got the new contact notification rigth away.

Now, when I go Hero > Vigilante > Villain > Rogue > Hero... If I respec after I'm a hero again, I don't lose access to the PPPs, do I?

Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.

I actually hadn't thought about it until this topic, but assumed people must not have minded because of the freespec.

Nope, once they're unlocked, they're always unlocked, a permanent reminder that you were willing to sell your soul for power.

Shameful, really.

But I'll do it.

I just want to note how stupid it would be for them to allow the powers to be used at 35, but still not unlockable until 40. How incredibly stupid that would be. How insanely, incredibly stupid. Honestly. What the heck.

I would highly encourage any tourists in the Rogue Isles to pick up the Demonic accolade while they're there.

Do a 2 mission Ouroborous arc that unlocks at 35, pick up a few exploration badges, and kill 100 Hellfrosts as you run round Potter's Field in Sharkhead, about 8 times.

Its much easier than the hero equivalent, and offers you pretty much complete invulnerability for 1 minute out of every 25 (or less with recharge bonuses). It can be very useful for taking out tricky Elite Bosses in your Patron arc in fact.

If you like Shadow Meld or Scorpion Shield, you'll probably like this.

Incorrect. Just started a patron arc on one of my villains yesterday, when he hit 35.

There was, for a while, a bug where the patron missions you could take at level 35-39 were still spawning enemies at level 40, but they've since fixed this, as well.

Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas

Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.

Depends on why this would be an issue for you. If it's thematic/RP reasons, you're going undercover for an extended period. Or, it never happened, because it's silly to lock power options behind a character morality, so you did it OOC to get access to a power set, not to be some evil schmoe's lackey for a while.

Otoh, if it's a matter of not liking redside maps, missions, whatever... eh, grin and bear it, or do without.

Yep, I did this just the other day. The patron contact opens up (and is automatically added to your list through a pop-up) at 35... after you visit the trainer and pick your new power for that level (which can be from one of the non-patron epic pools, thus preventing you from taking a patron pool after you've unlocked them). So basically, you can take a patron power at level 35, but only via a respec. Otherwise you're looking at waiting until 38.

Still fairly stupid, but not as stupid as the 35/40 thing.

FUN FACT: That burst of light when you level up is actually the effectiveness escaping from your enhancements all at once.

Yeah, but the Vigilante -> Villain tips to get you there are not mild at all.

There are three basic ways (that I can think of, at least) to justify a hero going redside without "really" being a villain. Two have already been mentioned:
-Do it OOC: for a few days, you're not getting into your character, you're just playing a video game.
-Pull a Manticore: You're going undercover or something until you accomplish what you need (in this case, gaining some redside powers).
-Pull a Malaise: Due to mind control, possession, or whatever other reason you like, your character is not in control of his own actions for a while, so although you clearly did some bad things, it wasn't because you're evil.
