Hoverboard racing

I've been thinking about this a bit today, with the new travel power avaiable, we now have something wich has the same speed for everyone, making a racing league possible. Of course, as top speed is fixed, it would have to be more of a pathfinding and obstacle course racing.

Participants and judges forme a league, with say team 1 forming waypoints (and as people are in a league, are targettable for navigation).

I suppose skyway and grandville would be among the difficult places to navigate, with overpasses and underpasses and tunnels. Atlas would be more easy.

Skill would involve finding he best route between skyscrappers etc. to the next nav point.

So far my ideas. Feedback, feasible, fun?

Doh, that typo sucks.

(and can't even correct it, as it's the title)

I hadn't considered that the hoverboard could make a road rally a feasible event. That's pretty cool. The more so because with vigilante/rogue options the rally course could cover both redside and blueside.

Judging it would be a challenge. You'd need some way to verify the checkpoints and the time to reach them, without forming a checkin queue that ends up stopping the race.

I suppose that as long as a checkpoint judge had a way to take a screenshot with a timestamp built into it (preferably as a running clock as opposed to simply relying on a file system timestamp) that players could fly by the judge without stopping.

One possible method of verifying checkpoints without requiring checkpoint monitoring would be to require the character be a rogue/vigilante who has never set foot on the other side. Then you run the race across a course of exploration and history badges that act as the verification of achieving the checkpoints. That might be good for a more standard race where the object is to reach the finish first rather than make all of the checkpoints in the alloted time.

Cheaters will cheat, of course, but there's only so much you can do about people who insist on taking the fun out of a for-fun event. That's one reason I've thought the rally format would be a good one - the goal would be to challenge yourself rather than to be the first one at the finish.

City Hall should set up special race areas where they can race is safety and avoid endangering civilians - offering prizes would also help attract hoverboarders.

Just make sure the race doesn't go over any bodies of water.

Years ago a friend of mine had an idea of doing a level 1 race from City Hall to Portal Corp. We planned for it for months on how the best way to do it would be. Ultimately we decided everyone in the contest had to be in a group with a judge who can watch what route they are taking and making sure they aren't being TP'd.

Then logistics like hospital taxis threw even more cogs into the mix and we ultimately just let the idea pass.

I think this is a great idea!

I have an idea though! How about making an architect mission based on Hoverboard racing? Is it possible to have no enemies, but a clickable item at the end of the stage? This would be even more interesting since the level is randomly generated, and there's no feasible way they could cheat.

What do you think? Could this work?

PS: If you felt especially evil, you could even make it so the switch spawned an overwhelming amount of enemies that would kill everyone who was behind. (:<

That is all.

Yes! Great idea. You get a note as to who did the clicking, right? Solid.

Yep! And if needed, you could have a judge waiting at the end just to be sure.
