Yes, its another farm question....

Ok, after amassing 14 level 50 toons the old fashion way, I'm looking to finish IO'ing out some of my builds. Been running tip missions for merits, but I've read that AE tickets are a great way to get some of the recipes I need.

I have an incarnated Fire/Fire/Pyre tank that would be a good choice for running AE farms, but after mulitple searches on the forums, I've yet to come up with an answer on what AE arcs people actually run. Is it taboo to list them on the forums?

I've spented limited time in AE, so I don't really know much about the search functions in there. I guess I could just play around in there, but since my play time is limited (and I have a lot more free internet search time), I figured I would ask here first.

When I'm looking for a farm I simply search the word "fire" then pick any that are very short in length I believe the cyborg fire farm is the oldest and most popular.

To answer your second question without actually looking at your build any fire armor toon will do fine just be sure you are loaded with inspers (I brought a full tray of purps befor I slotted my FA brute and he made it to the ticket cap 9 times out of 10)

I'd suggest searching for any AE arcs with "fire" in title. I'm sure a few of the more popular ones will show up in your search. I believe one of them is a "Hall of Fame" arc.

Your build seems very endurance heavy, and probably runs through end pretty quickly. I hope you're working on getting the Cardiac Alpha to tier 4 to help with that. I'm also surprised you didn't work burn in, as it's a pretty strong although small AoE in the Fiery Aura.

Personally I use the AE tickets more for salvage then for the random recipe rolls.

If you weren't aware: Recipes in the AE are all based on random ticket rolls. Depending on recipe you receive, it will scale to the maximum level the recipe can be found at, compared to your toon level. As a level 50 character you can't "buy" the recipe at lvl 35. So if a recipe maxes at level 50, you'll get a level 50. If it stops at lvl 30, then it will be 30.

Thanks for the AE info, I haven't really spent much time there, other than when it was first launched. Aside from farming for my benefit (from what you said, maybe I'm better off getting rare salvage, selling it and buying the recipes), I also will be able to help my hubby get some levels on a few toons he's had sitting around for a while.

As for Burn, when I made and leveled up the toon, it still had the fear component. I took an 18 month break a while back and when I came back I respec'd to get inherent fitness, but never realized they eliminated that component. I could replace CJ, but then I'd lose a spot for one of my LotG +rech and I'm not sure where else I could take slots from. What would you replace?

And yes, I have at least tier 3 Cardiac Alpha (I was working on tier 4 and don't remember if I've completed it yet).

Let's just say I'm not a huge fan of Maneuvers for tanks, so I'd drop that in a heart beat and put in burn instead.

As a comparison I'll drop in my Fire/Fire/Pyre build at the end of my post. I can ticket cap with him in under 6 minutes running +1/x8. Not a speed record by any means. I never run out of endurance. I am set with the tier 4 Cardiac, the Tier 3 Reactive Interface, and Void Judgement . It's not the "best build" in the world, but it works for me.

Hmmm...now you have me thinking. I was hesitant to lose the extra 7.5% recharge, but looking at Mids it only gains me 1 or 2 seconds on the heal and consume. And since I'm not even close to being soft capped on defense, I'm guessing the 3% Maneuvers offers isn't that big of a loss (plus the elimnation of a toggle is always good). Plus putting Burn in only requires 1 slot, so it frees up the other slot to use elsewhere.

Good thing I have a few vet respecs sitting around...

Ooohh...I just realized I didn't have room for the Numina's +Regen/Recovery before and swapping Burn for Maneuvers gives me the extra slot on Health...YAY!!!

Ok first off I am not going to answer your first question, but I will answer your second question. In most cases you want to get to 45% in s/l/en/neg for reg content. Now the thing i see in your build it is not close to any of that and you will have a hard time even doing those farms. Are u looking for just farm toon or both content/farm toon? If all you want it for is the fire AE farm you do not need taunt/temp protection/KB protection. Most FA tanks can get hard cap on fire res without using temp protection although some take it as a mule for the steadfast def. I changed a few things for you FYI turn off SS. It is 1 purple away from SC S/L/Fire but you are still hard cap for fire.

For the most part I play content with her and that is my main intention. While I can't herd entire rooms of Longbow and survive, I play with good support (my hubby) and have fun with it. I wasn't looking to make her a farm toon, but more curious if I would face plant immediately upon entering a fire farm map. I have no problem carrying a couple purples to make up for my shortcomings.

I wanted to add that I also have both Tier 3 Barrier and Rebirth Destiny Incarnate powers. I typically don't use either in the AE, but they're nice for different reasons.

You might want to consider using your alternate character slot for a farming build.

That way you have one slotted for regular play and another for farming in AE.

I'm sorry, what's not true? That the OP might want to do this, or that you can slot the two builds differently?

It appears I do have tier 4 Cardiac Alpha (along with tier 3 Barrier). Was able to run one of the fire mishes with ease last night, in fact I tried with Maneuvers turned off and still kept a full health bar, so I did my respec and have Burn! And I completely forgot about the Barrier power til the end...

Barrier isn't really necessary for a Fire tank in the Fire AE missions. I'll use it if I've got a friend or two along for the ride as it helps keep them alive.

You can have a pretty viable tank and both be a decent farmer, i rather pop a bunch of purples in Trials (where they have way higher hit then the softcap of 45%) then to mix up 2 sets trying to get maxed in both.

I went for the 6set resist, wich gives a double (at 3 and 6) to fire defense, i believe 3.75% and 1.85% per set. Having that in 2 shields, auto-shield and tough already gives you a very decent base defense against fire. Along i picked CJ (anti-immobilize) and weave (since u got tough already for your SL resist).

CJ, Weave, manauvres and global IO give also melee/ranged defense, so it benefits also greatly in normal content. By beefing up fire defense from the 6slot shields you still gain ED'ed resist and high endurance discount.

Personaly i skipped most melee and pbAoE sets just to get that sod bit of recharge (although melee defense bonus is nice), the price of these recipes takes you quite alot of runs to fund all this. With 2 lvl50 IO's you already get close to ED, so 1 acc/2rech/2dmg/1endred lvl50 IO's in burn/sword circle and combution already makes me going well.

Just get a decent base defense (i need 1 purple to hit softcap with above slotting), keep the rest cheap as possible and consider making a fiery armor brute in the time being. In terms of viable in farm and PvE, i would recommend a Inv tanker though, they hit softcap with no IO at all, their regen and cap SL resist outlast +2*8 without any problem. Currently thats my 'afk and auto attack on' farmer.

Okay, you are new to farming so I have a some basic comments that should help. There are many viable methods, I am going to describe one that has worked very well for me. I learned it watching other farmers, primarily on the Cray Cyborg map which is very popular.

First of all, I should mention that farming can be so effective that it is likely to alter your experience of “normal” content. After you power-level your husband’s characters the normal content might seem slow-paced or underwhelming. This is a major reason farming is disliked by many experienced players. Farming should be used with caution. It completely breaks the illusion of “I am a superhero” and turns it into “I am a gamer who is manipulating a piece of software for maximum output.”

Farming an AE map has a different pace and tactics than standard content. You are basically standing in one area, using your AOE powers, and gulping inspirations constantly. How you play your character is more important than the specifics of your build. Many people use macros to change useless inspirations into the ones they want. Many players turn off bosses since the “xp to effort” ratio isn’t as good for them. You want to find the right balance in difficulty levels, where you are fighting the maximum level you can kill safely while still getting lots on inspirations.

Now let’s consider why your build doesn’t matter as much as your behavior when you are a fire/fire tank. It is trivially easy to reach 90% resistance to fire damage while still in your 20s. In the AE you can pick maps with mobs who do only fire damage. With 90% res and a moderate amount of defense you can handle a X8 +1 map easily. I have a fire/fire tank around level 30 (he won’t be for long) and am doing X8 +3 maps using just IO and SO enhancements. He doesn’t have any +def powers yet, but gobbles enough purples that most of the time I am at the +def cap AND he has 90% res to fire. On X8 maps the inspirations come in so quickly that a lot of the time I am at the damage cap as well. I always hit the ticket cap with those settings.

I am at work and can’t really look at the details of your build, but as long as you have 90% res to fire and your AOE powers are slotted up then you should be able to farm just fine using the above tips. You might want to dedicate your second build to farming for convenience, but that is up to you.

I run ambush farms with a brute on 0% set bonus defense and get by with purples. Even turning the difficulty down to what you can handle (I would bet you could easily run 0x8 on a tank with capped fire resist) is still more efficient than not farming at all. People on these forums sometimes act like if you aren't running +4x8 then you aren't going to gain anything. I assure you that even on 0x4 you can powerlevel and gain inf at speeds that make everything else you've ever done in this game seem retarded slow.

For example, this "build" can survive a 0x6 ambush (my computer now overheats and crashes if I go higher) as long as I can maintain 3 purples. Cant kill anything, but thats not the point. This isnt even a playable build, it was an XP mule that I havent decided to delete or fix yet. If your build has the same/better survivability with some attacks that are slotted properly, you can fire farm with insps.

well i only have 36 lvl 50's ...and thats with not having lvl'd any toon this entire year so far or it would be alot more. so maybe my farming advice could help out

first off. having 2 builds like mentioned is the way to go.a farm build should be made up of recharge and recovery..you want speed and quickness on farms or its not worth the time.

i have my first one solo based..built on resistance/acc/recharge/recovery.i dont need to be soft capped in defense for farming.brutes should! but not a fire tank.if you do then your doing it wrong.

my 2nd build is a team based tf machine!..less about recharge and more about team tanking ability. im soft capped in s/l and melee and hes a beast on tin mages and apex and on kahns i can handle all 4 av's at once and not blink an eye.

since farming isnt the same needs as regular play this is where two builds really work great.ask yourself what bonus's can i use to make it better.does a fire tank need regen?...nope! we have nothing for regen cause with enough recharge your healing flames will heal you for over 900 hp's every 12 secs.do i need recharge?...of course! the faster your powers come in to play the faster you make more money and more xp ...but with more recharge comes more end useage. so recovery bonus's are great too!.relying on just consume isnt gonna help you.acc always a great 2nd or 3rd bonus.if you cant hit a buncha guys grouped up then your worthless.

Can I convince you to post your two builds (farm vs TF) to see the diffs?

Why did you softcap melee if you have S/L softcapped? And why didn't you softcap E/N? If you rely on Barrier you can do both S/L and E/N softcaps without sacrificing too much.
