Installing CoX on a SSD
Yes, it really is as simple as "create a folder there". I just made a folder called "games" and installed stuff there.
Seebs, thanks very much for taking the time to respond.
I appreciate your help.
I've already installed it in the C: drive. I'm guessing it's okay to uninstall and then re-download it and re-install it in a folder I create?
(I.e. I'm sure I just can't move the contents from the C drive to the J drive? Or can I?)
Sorry for the bonehead questions. And again...thank you!

You can in fact move the CoH folder from your C drive to your J drive. Just be aware you will need to redirect your shortcuts and or your NcLauncher to it as well.

It's a little odd...
You usually put Windows (or your other OS) on the SSD to make your PC a lot quicker. You don't use it as a secondary disk!
Though given your apparent limited knowledge (no intended as an insult!) i guess it's a bad idea to rearrange stuff now... I'd strongly consider getting your PC reinstalled at some point to make better use of the SSD though.

What, if anything, would stop you from using drive-cloning software to transplant your system from a spinning-disk drive to the SSD?
This would be a simpler, more elegant solution than uninstalling and reinstalling.
Moreover, your ENTIRE system would benefit from a speed-up then. Not just CoH.
Thanks, all!
(Silver, I didn't take it as an insult! )
Well, I ORIGINALLY planned on having my Win 7 on the SSD. The circumstances had me needing the computer quickly. That, along with a long story of backups, etc... had me just do what I needed done. (I'm a teacher and my computer died on me the WEEKEND before school started...so yeah, that was fun. :P )
I didn't know there is such thing as drive-cloning. I will mention it to the Geek Squad (although I'm not sure why they didn't suggest it).
I'm guessing it's faster than uninstalling/reinstalling the OS and such?

Using an SSD for a game drive is not unheard of, although using it as your system drive makes a lot more sense. If you do use an SSD that was a fresh install is best and it should at least be vista or better or a version of linux that supports SSD - or Mac.
I have two raided as my os drive and have coh installed to them (load times are sig faster).

Here's a list of various disk cloning software.
The ones I have experience with are:
Ghost
TrueImage
DD
Clonezilla
Note: Depending on the size of the SSD in comparison to the original disk, you may need a package that'll resize the partition(s)s for you as well. If so, Ghost or TrueImage are your best bets.

You don't want to use drive cloning software on ssd unless you are cloning from an ssd.

And load times are phenomenal in-game.
Hyperstrike, thanks so much for answering. I'll check into those suggestions you offered.
I called the Geek Squad yesterday and they also mentioned Acronis. I'm thinking since my regular HD is substantially larger than my SSD, I'll check into those you recommended for partitioning.
Again, you have my thanks.

Hello all,
)
I've done a search and read the threads on SSDs, but it seems they're mostly the pros and cons of having CoX on an SSD.
My question is: How does one go about installing on an SSD?
My old computer crashed/died, so I purchased a new one and had an 120 GB SSD installed. It was advised to have my applications on there (Photoshop, Office, etc.) It's drive "J".
I decided I wanted CoX back on this new computer so came to the site down install it. It asked where I wanted it and I chose J. However, it said it can't be in the root directory. I do understand that. It said choose a folder.
However, I wasn't sure if I should create a folder (I don't see "Program Files" in the J drive) because I thought perhaps the game wouldn't be able to find what it needs to find.
I did notice a Program Files folder in the C drive (along with Office, Adobe, etc.) so I'm guessing the Geek Squad installed those folders there and perhaps the .exe files in the J drive?
I'm sure it's not as easy as moving the .exe for CoX to the J drive while I keep everything else in the C drive (yes, I realize how dumb that may sound!
Any advice on how I could safely install CoX to my J (SSD) drive would be greatly appreciated.
I thank you for your time.
