Is "too much recharge" possible?

I have 3 fairly different doms at 50, all with permadom.

My first, a fire/psi, has 112.5% global recharge from bonuses.
My second, an ice/elec, has 122.5%.
My third, a mind/energy, has ~145%.

I have to pay attention to Hasten on the fire/psi, less so on the ice/elec, and sometimes I don't even bother clicking it on the mind/energy.

Which makes me wonder, did I go overboard with the mind/energy? Did I actually slot for too much recharge, when I could have been slotting for something like +def? I don't feel like I need defense that badly, with everything around me held, sleeping, confused, stunned, quaking with fear, or dead, but is 145% overkill?

There's nothing that really penalizes you, as far as I know, for having more recharge than is necessary for permadom/permahasten. You may find additional recharge useful if you rely on long-recharge powers a lot but once you have permadom/permahasten and enough recharge that your powers are up as often as you need them, you can really stop worrying about recharge.

I stop worrying about it when I get Hasten down to around 122 seconds, which is the point where, when hasten runs out, I can finish whatever attack I'm doing and pop it again.

No such thing as "too much" but I'd start to re-think it if you are slotting only for recharge versus some of the other bonuses you can achieve.

My memory is a little dated so others may correct me if this is "old thinking" but I believe:

PermaDom via Hasten: Requires 70% global recharge from IO's and 3-slotted Hasten

PermaHasten + PermaDom: Requires 90% global recharge from IO sets + 3-slotted Hasten

PermaDom without Hasten: 125% global recharge from IO sets

As the poster above states, if you find yourself unable to use the powers you need, or you are frequently fighting -RECHARGE types of critters, then the more recharge the better. But that's pretty rare.

Once i achieve PermaDom on my Dom's, I try to get Hasten to Perma if possible, but its by no means game-changing if I have a gap of 10 seconds or so. You just have to remember to click it when its up. I typically have Dom on auto-fire anyways.

qr; I agree. Once hasten is down around 122s, I would slot more for +Def or +Dmg.

My one and only perma dom is Gravity/Fiery. She is barely perma. I need to really watch out the button at least for two times and then it stacks nicely.

I am all Hovering in air for more protection and I go for more +defense. I really like the defense bonus because in situations where controls don't work or don't work fast enough, I can withstand quite a bit of beating with my ice shield, tough/weave, and set bonuses.

If you feel you need more defense, then yeah, 145% recharge sounds a bit too much.

What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

401% without speed boost is too much. =)

Anything else is only too much if it is taking away from another bonus, as has already been mentioned.

Edit: Unless I'm mistaken, the hardcap to recharge is 400%.

Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

most of my doms usually hover around 130-140% in global rech and i usually keep hasten up to shave off some more time on most other powers especially long rech ones

just an FYI if you ED cap hasten for rech, then around 110% global rech will perma hasten (as mentioned above its around 125% for perma dom, so getting perma dom will essentially get you perma hasten too)

Generally I try to slot my Doms for permadom without Hasten. Even that's overkill in some cases, so yes I'd say 145% is overkill, but there's never too much recharge.

Although, I would slot up some defense along with it, you should be able to softcap S/L defense in addition to permadom without Hasten. It does help and you won't even notice the loss of recharge.

"too much" would basically be the point that you're using blue bar faster than you can replenish it. Beyond that, more recharge isn't doing much good for you, and you might as well build for other things.

Aside from that though, recharge recharge recharge.

@Dysc, on virtue:
Virtue blues: Overnight (DP/MM), Kid Ridiculous (FC/rad), Panorama (Ill/time)
Virtue reds: Block Party (SS/SD), Goldcrush (earth/fire), Deadwire (claws/elec), Snowcrush (ice/kin)

Thanks for the feedback. What I'm hearing is what my gut was telling me, so I'll play around in Mids and see what else I can do to the build. When I was sitting at permadom/hasten by level 44, it felt weird to even bother slotting any purples when I got to 50, but I'd already set them aside...

Tweaking it a bit I took it from 145% global recharge to 123.75%, and got S/L defense to 45.1% and Energy to 39% and change (since I'd already elected to go up the Nerve tree to get the variety of bonuses including +def...). I had to give up 4% global damage bonus, and now I need to go scrounge some Kinetic Combats, but that's a much more "interesting" build than what I had.

She can stay as she is until I get another freespec, so I've got time to scrounge.

Thanks again!
