Terror Volta Trial(s) need LESS boredom!
I have the perfect solution!!
Give the doors on the reactor room catwalk the Halloween treatment. The more you click, the more baddies come out. That way teams that want to could take a breather between rounds if they needed to regroup or accommodate an AFK while other teams that want to speed it up or like to swim in a sea of NPCs could click all the doors at once. EVERYONE WINS!!! |
If the button isn't pressed, then the game sends the next wave when the previous wave fails to call in.
Only allow the button to be pressed when all the attackers are dead.

I would make the following changes:
- Stop spawning enemies -1 or -2 to the mission in the Reactor. This isn't 2005, people can handle even level spawns;
- Trigger the next spawn to occur like they do in the Incarnate trials. Give people a timer. Put some tension into the trial. It should be possible to have spawns doubled up.
As for the "But people need respecs" argument. That's plainly bunk. Don't do the trial with 8 people whose builds are weak. On most servers there you can find characters who can solo the Reactor room pretty readily.
The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

And as the trial stands, no one wants to play it with them! Last night, I was on a Terra Volta that very nearly didn't start. "TV forming!" the call went out, "Run sutter instead" "Come do the villain respec" the replies came in.
I'm in favor of:
A) A fixed timer for the spawns
B) That gets set to 30 sec when the current wave dies off.
C) And a wave counter to go with it.
I'm REALLY in favor of:
A) A fixed timer of 30 sec for the spawns.
B) The trial starts in the reactor room and the other objectives must be completed to make the waves stop coming.
But no one will get behind that but me.
Mission Arc: Metatronic Mayhem (Id 1750): A tale of robots gone wrong, rogue robots gone right, and madmen gone every which way but loose.

Wave 1 defeated
Wait 1 min to spawn wave 2
Wave 2 defeated
Wait 45 secs to spawn wave 3
Wave 3 defeated
Wait 30 secs to spawn wave 4
...
I think this would build the tension level as the trial proceeds and eventually the spawns would come one after another forcing you to make decisions as to whether to re-bubble or keep fighting.
We don' need no stinkin' signatures!
Apparently even the devs are starting to realize how lame the respec is. Otherwise, why would an alternate WST choice suddenly have been added for this week? :P
Nice quick fix for half the complaint, but it would be nice if they'd revamp the whole thing to make it a little more challenging and/or fun. (I mean come on, guys, you did it for Positron...)
My friend wants a button that allows you to send all the waves right away.

A fix that isn't resource intensive for them I believe.
Give us the option to do it the old way. That way we can choose to risk being overwhelmed (and thus not be bored the entire time) or to do the slow and sure way. Since we get a mulligan, why not?
