Buying a booster - valid payment option?

Instances where a credit card would be of any use to me are few and far between; and I don't much care for the interest and fees attached to one. Unfortunately that tends to leave my options for buying stuff online somewhere between "slim" and "zero".

Then I noticed some stores selling Visa "prepaid" cards that come loaded with a certain amount of money, and once that's used up, you pitch the card.

I don't want to shell out for one of these cards and find out I wasted the money. Since it's not entirely clear from the NCSoft store's description, are these cards accepted? Can I use one to buy costume boosters (up to the value of the card)?

(Oh, and are taxes applied to the transaction?)

You can use a prepaid Visa card anywhere that a Visa card would be accepted; there's no reason it shouldn't work.

You might want to try PayPal instead, though. You can connect it directly to your bank account or debit card if you like.

Using PayPal on the NCSoft store also doesn't force a 24 hour wait between booster pack purchases, should you wish to buy more than one.

There are numerous credit cards available with no fees and no interest if you pay the outstanding balance when you get the bill. I have four of them. I have ZERO cards with fees. Some will hit you with an inactivity fee if you don't use it at least once per year (which shouldn't be hard to do).

They work fine. My boss is big on these cards at Christmas. I have bought boosters, character slots and subscriptions using both a prepaid Visa card and a prepaid American Express card. These cards have a downside, though. Say you buy a $50 card and use it to purchase 6 things at $8 each. That's $48. You have $2 left on the card.

I think it depends on your state. If you're in a state where they have a physical presence (CA and TX?) then yes. Otherwise, no. I know the boosters have cost me exactly $9.99 and I live in NY.

For the card, I generally stop at a gas station and empty the card there into my lawn mower gas cans. Sure, it's not much gas but it gets that card emptied and I can throw it away. Also, some cards can have funds added to them as well.

As for the taxes, I think it's CA, TX and WA only. Not certain about Washington though. I do know Texas (Tax us) and California residents are hit with sales tax.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Then you'll probably only be hit with the exchange rate (whatever that happens to be when the card is charged).

This is correct. Currently the Canadian dollar is slightly higher than the US dollar, but that changes daily.

CIBC apparently has a visa cobranded debit card that works just like a credit card for online purchases. If I disliked or couldn't get a credit card I would check that out. A friend of mine has one and loves it.

Won't work for the OP. There's two types of PayPal transactions: Transfers and Instant Purchases.

Transfers debit the amount from your account, wait for it to clear, then give the money to the recipient. If you don't have enough money for the transaction to clear, then it acts much like a bounced cheque.

Instant Purchases work like a Transfer, but give the money to the recipient right away. If the payment doesn't clear, it's taken from the credit card on file. If you don't have a credit card on file, you can't do Instant Purchases.

NCsoft only accepts Instant Purchases.

Well, yes it would work. He'd just have to transfer the amount from his checking account to his paypal account in advance. Once the funds are in there, he could use them for an instant purchase. If he doesn't have enough funds in the account, then no, it wouldn't work.

Hm... Never thought of transferring the funds in advance. I always just make the payment, then make sure I have enough for it to clear, so that it never has to go to the credit card.
