Now that BMT is so loosely moderated and is no longer restricted to Badges/Monsters/Task forces/Trials its like any other channel and therefore no longer has a real purpose in my opinion. I quit 3 days ago, after having been a member for nearly 3 years.

so um yeah......DARKGUARD NETWORK......nuff said

All I really can say is that Cobalt, you should really jump back into BMT. Just because you stepped won from Mod-ship doesn't mean that you should leave the channel completely. You did do good for the channel while you were a Mod and it makes no sense to completely give that up now. I'm sure you have your reasons obviously, but being part of the community and giving back like you always have should be priority. I originally stepped down from Modin' in BMT because I tried to have a go at a different server and didn't see the point to being in BMT if I wasn't part of the server it was attached to. I rejoined when I came back to champion and went back to helping with or without bein' a Mod. You should be doing the same, having a star shouldn't matter in the end.

It doesn't. And no.

Folks, whomever runs a Global channel, that's who calls the shots. There is no point in fussing about it.

BMT is what Ping says it is. End of story. If I have a problem with the new rules... and I really doubt I will... I will vote with my feet. Ownership of BMT does not lie with the community, and SHOULD not. It's in a Moderator's hands so that NCSoft will never have the unenviable task of trying to sort through our drama and resolve it for us.

To be direct, I genuinely liked the way BMT was run this past year... and yes, I was silenced once by Cobalt. I asked him why politely, got a polite answer, apologized and pledged not to do it again, and got unsilenced.

Cobalt and I are not global friends, we aren't in a SG (but we do share a Coalition), we don't share a realtime talk channel, and we rarely talk about more than the mission at hand. But when I heard he was stepping down, I thanked Cobalt for helping me efficiently get the team-ups I joined BMT for in the first place. He did more than that in his time, though-- when I had trouble sometimes getting a team together, he was often a willing volunteer.

Some of you have lingering issues with the Blue Guy, and if you can't drop it and let go, well brother or sister, that is your prerogative. I bear you no ill will, but the guy happens to be an enormous asset to my play. Thanks for reading.

I would like to go on the record as saying, if you have any problems with the way I've moderated anything, feel free to talk to me about it. I would prefer that it be done via tells just to keep any resulting drama out of BMT, but if I am in the wrong and get called on it, I will do what I can to make amends.

Too many penguins and kittens in that channel.

Oh and I thought the new freebie accounts won't have access to custom channels.

If you're referring to this....

/chan_timeout <channel name> <days>

Sets the number of days a member of a global channel must go without logging in before being automatically kicked from the channel.

It's been in the game for quite a while, and works fine. We cleaned up some channels with it.

Unfortunately it won't do anything about people who are active in the game, but take up space in channels they don't use.

'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.

I agree with all of this. In a certain global channel that has little to do with Champion, I've been the Big Meanie for several years, and it's no picnic, but some people do what they feel is necessary regardless of public opinion. Cobalt, thanks for keeping it clean.

So this actually works now? I know at one point it responded like it worked but it didn't actually do anything.

Haven't I gone over what horrible consequences we will face if there was no Champion drama? Piddly server drama has been an established part of Champion Server since 2004.

I'm well aware that it's been in-game for quite a while, that's why I tried to use it. And you would be the first person to say that it works. I've tried it numerous times where I know there are accounts in the channel that've been away for passed the time limit set, and the channel member count doesn't change after usin' the command. Thus, it doesn't work. Additionally, it's on the QoL list for a fix, which also tells me that it doesn't work. And, as I stated before, I've been in contact with various Devs and Community folks that tells me its bein' worked on or fixed. Which tells me it doesn't work.

It definitely has at some point. Justice has stopped using JFA2010 and moved back to Justice for All after getting rid of inactives from it.

I'm sure it did, as you said, at some point. I never said it never, ever worked. But as it stands, it currently doesn't. At least for BMT as that was the only channel I was concerned with, and after setting it numerous times over the years with zero results, even as recently as roughly around the time o' the i21/F2P announcement to prepare the channel for potential additional members, with the same negative results. It's been brought up in at least one other thread where players who are mods in other channels have mentioned the same negative results. Thus my elevation o' the problem to the Devs and the Community team.

Plenty of people got it working here. It was in the i18 patch notes.

In fact I just tested it on a smaller channel myself and it worked fine. I know for the larger channel we did it on, we set it for 1 day which caused a huge purge and then set it to 90-120 days with the thought being that anyone worth having in the channel who would contribute would be smart enough to rejoin if they were kicked.

I just tried this in BMT:

/chan_timeout "BMT of Champion" 30

Channel population before: 2474
Channel population now: 997

BMT now has plenty of room for people to hop in now.

Of course, this now means that I have likely kicked more people from the channel in one swoop than Cobalt has the entire time he was an Op...

However, we do have plenty of room for people to hop in now.

Thirty days? That seems a bit steep versus the 365 I had tried to set it for previously.

Have fun with that.
