SS/Fire All around build Critique

I have been working on a build for some time now, I want this brute to be able to hold his own ground in lvl 50 content, TFs, tips, etc. I want him to be survivable in Trials as well, but when running a trial everyone is buffed out their @$$ so I don't feel a need to hit incarnate softcap. I also like this build to farm hence all the recharge I gave it. I also am relying on t4 ageless (+rec one) to solve my end problems, as well as having consume for backup. I am wondering on the experts thoughts on how you think this build will work, and I am relying on darkest night to get me to the "softcap." Not sure if this is a good strategy, but that is why I am here. Thanks.

Because it's exactly the same as the one VK posted on 7.22.2011.

I am not saying it was copied, I've seen way to many people make oh so similar builds. But it -is- exactly the same, never-the-less.

Ok well I was interested so I decided to go look for his post, and I don't see how you get exactly the same, they are similar, yes, but not exactly the same, and we did have similar goals, except I was hitting around 32% def to hit softcap by using darkest night, and as I read in his post he was aiming for the same def%, but didn't use darkest night.

I'm not saying they didn't copy a build, but to say those two builds are "exactly" the same and yet they differ in slotting in the very first power is a pretty bad misstep on your part.

Ack!

Apologies to you _UJ_! It was my early morning bleary eyes looking at things today. I had just read up on UK's build as I just got my own SS/Fire brute to 50 and was looking for guides to make her rock.

Sorry, Sorry, Sorry...

Ok so is anyone actually going to help and critique the build or just argue about who copied who.

Looks good to me. Try not running with stealth on, and only use DN during AV fights. Being */fire your best defense is a good offense.

Heh, i remember seeing someone post a build that was exactly like one i made slot levels and all :P

I have 2 SS/FIRE brutes at 50 so I can play them on 2 servers. 1 is a farming machine with perma hasten and all sorts of expensive goodies. I decided for my second one to make it more of an all-around build with a much cheaper budget (much-much cheaper). This was a first crack on mids since the 2nd brute hit 50 yesterday. I may play around with it but I think it is pretty good as is. It gets to 32.5 without the crazy expensive PVP IOs and has an upgrade path. For example, as I save my merits I can buy the LOTG +recharge for the defense powers and replace one of the Def/end IOs. I can replace one of the POSI sets with a purple set if I feel the need for more recharge. That plus spiritual core gets me a couple seconds out of perma hasten.

You may find some ideas on this build to save you some money if that matters at all.

Anyway...

Who cares if it's similar, damn. Find something better to do with your time than sit on a forum saying, in a vague manner, how similar someone's build looks.

To OP, I think it's solid considering what your goals are. I do think you should drop Darkest Night for Soul Tentacles. In my experience, there is nothing greater than having a solid immob/hold for TFs ect. A perfect example is the popular BAF. Being able to slow down the minions really helps out the team and yourself while you focus on the Lts.

Soul Tentacles is terrible, you don't need an immobilize when you have a taunt aura.

Whatever would I do with the thirty second it took me to open the thread, look at the build, look at the title of the thread, mentally compare them to my own recent build and thread see some similarities and jokingly comment on it?

Take or leave it, but here is my advise;

Blazing Aura - On my build, I have more damage procs in it.
Stealth - Find a better home for that second slot.
Consume - On my build, I went with the taunt set that gives you a recharge set bonus with four. Even slotted that way, I get more then enough endurance to fill my bar when used.
Foot Stomp - Wondering why you took the Armgdn proc over the Armgdn Damage IO? I would think by the numbers, the damage IO would give you overall better damage then a proc. I mean, you can't count on your armgdn proc going off over the smaller but steadier damage numbers the straight-up armgdn damage IO is giving you.

Soul Mastery - I would try something else.... I went with Ice on my Brute, since I went from Gold to Blue. Ice Storm is all good and such, but I would have been better off with the faster recharge of Ball Lightning during my farm runs.

Don't you know that discussion of power selection/slotting can ONLY be based on hearsay, rumor, idle speculation, and bald-faced lies??!? ~Elf_Sniper

mmk lots of things wrong with this.
First off procs are pure crap in toggles.
2nd the dmg proc is ALWAYS better than the dmg IO on purple sets...that dmg IO end up adding about 10% more dmg only after ED.
With FS, a 5 set of arm with the dmg IO gives you an average DPA of 117. With the proc you get an average of...147. Lets not forget that dmg proc keeps working when you are at the dmg cap but the dmg enhancements in your attacks begin to become worthless.

Ok... I stand corrected on FS if the rate of activation is factored in.

On the issue of procs in toggles, I'm unconvinced but willing to let the matter slide.

If you are at ED levels of damage enhancement in your toggle, placing a dmg proc will boost the damage. They only have a chance to activate once every ten seconds and they attempt to fire if you have anyone in the radius or not. Even if it hits once everytime it fires, it will only boost the dps of that power a few points. It is pretty underwhelming.

So if you can't use the slots anywhere else, go for it, but I definately would not prioritize it.
