Darkness Superteam on Justice

Just wanted to pop in and let everybody know that there's been an unexpected change of plans. My in-laws won't be coming into town because of nasty weather and because I went a bit overboard on making Thanksgiving dinner, I'm going to be home today and will be online tonight.

Hope everybody is doing well. I'd like to get a Mortimer Kal or a Admiral Sutter in tonight to get xps for people that aren't 50 and notices for those who are.

I'll be online in the meantime getting xps for my brute. If anyone wants to join, send me a /t to @EF.

tonight we ran SSA red 1 to see who would show up. We then ran a morti kai for the notice of the well. most likely sunday we will help Xon complete the incarnate arc so he can start collecting shards and either run a nother morti for those who had leave early tonight or a sutter.

Congrats to the newest 50's-PC and Starry. The Eventides should hit 50 on Sunday. A +4 ITF should help with that. If anybody else would like to get in on that for xps or shard drops, please post here or send me a /tell in-game to @EF.

It looks like we've got a full team (and then some) of 50's. How about we start getting into some itrials?

I'm up for whatever everyone is doing. I assume when we hit iTrials, we can play any superteam alt we want, right? I already have a Dark Miasma incarnate elsewhere, so I'm not planning to do much with QuCiD beyond T1 alpha.

Too bad 45-50 content exists largely in multiples of eight. Say what you will about grinding iTrials, they do make it easier for our group to all play together. We also managed to get rather level-spread this time around. A couple of regulars are still below 45!

Hi guys! (This is Ally Volt, btw.)

I'm sorry I haven't been able to make it for a bit, school and RL kinda snuck up on me. My internet connection got messed up last month and I have finals all this week, so what time I have will be spent with my nose in a textbook anyway. :-( Hopefully, the *absolutely wonderful and talented* people at Comcast will FINALLY get my internet working properly by the time finals end on Friday. (Otherwise, my partipation will be limited to logging in, getting surrounded by mobs, losing connection, dying, and logging back in to a dead Ally Volt. :-( )

/sigh

Anywho, please wish me as much luck as you can on Wednesday. Discrete Math final is that day and... I don't think I can study enough for that one. :-\

Hope to see ya'll on Friday! (And hope this post actually goes through!)

P.S. Anything between the *'s is likely sarcasm caused by stress brought on by withdrawals from lack of functioning internet. ;-)

Heya Raelina

I'm sorry to hear that your internet has been acting up. Hopefully *crosses fingers* it'll get worked out by Friday.

Good luck on the Discrete Math final! I have no idea what level of math that is but I'm certain it's more than I can manage. I have much respect for those that can make numbers behave and make sense.

There's a LGTF being planned for Friday and Ally Volt is 45 so you could join in on that. I think we'll be running at +4 so xps should be good.

It just occurred to me that SSA #4 went live today along with the new itrials. If there's enough for two groups on Friday, we could run that as well.

Baub and I just ran the new itrials. So far, I'm not thrilled with them. They seemed gimmicky and had a learning curve. I'm guessing when more people know what to do, it'll be more tolerable. Just kind of frustrated that our first attempts were painful.

Congrats to our newest 50-Ally Volt!

It seems to me that we have more than a full team of 50's now and we can start jumping into some itrials.

If anybody has not hit 50 yet, I'll be running xp teams on Friday for catch up. If that doesn't work for you, pm me on the forums or send me a /t in game to @EF.

And what a list of trial we have now! We typically have 8-12 folks show up, and if some of us switch to already-incarnated alts (as I suspect we will), we ought to be able to handle a few of the trials at the low end of the numbers range, ie, with SG folks only. Once we get more level shifts, I bet we can handle all of them, SG-only.

I think nearly everyone is 45+ now, so perhaps those xps will come doing a TF that will help others get their alpha slotted properly. Although I don't remember what I need, personally.

Hi all,

Sorry I missed last Sunday, sounds like it was a fun night as usual.

Alas, I must also miss, or be very late tomorrow night as well. Our office is having a holiday happy hour, that is planned to last until 6ish PST, so I may be late, or depending on when I get home, may pass altogether.

I'll lift a glass of some refreshing adult beverage in your honor.

See you later,
PC

Question: can you beat the STF with no tank, brute, or scrapper?

Answer: we did it with the rad team, we did it with the guns team, why would you think we couldn't do it with the darkness team? It took us a while, but three Arachnos Flier defeats later, we did it! My perception was that the darkness team is kind of low-damage compared to our other teams. But I could be wrong about that.

Looking forward...whilst killing vines, we chatted a bit about our next team. My guess is that it's a month or more out, but it's good to get the ideas flowing. A lot of us want to do a single powerset theme next time around. Time and Beam were mentioned as possibilities that allow a lot of abusive stacking.

On the other hand, arafel posed the question of how we can make things more challenging for ourselves. Choosing a powerset that doesn't stack so well might be a first step! Note that there have been two new melee sets released recently (Titan Weapons and Street Justice), with a third coming soon (Staff Fighting). So I pose the question to the hive mind: is there a good melee defense set that we could use for a theme to (a) allow people to choose a new melee set, and (b) not stack so abusively as a support set would?

I have a couple ideas (both with significant drawbacks), but I'm going to keep them to myself until I hear what other people think.

if by melee defense you mean a set the only provides def buffs: then our options (based on my understanding of the power sets) include: energy, ice, shield, super reflexes, and ninjustu...

With the new energy adjustments [all of the following is IMO and should be treated a grain of salt], then the theme is centered around more the player skill's/build not the team. As an indiviudal, one would have to make sure that he/she does not do anything to over burden the group...thus more team strategy will be enforced. No one can merely just buff, run, apprehend all willynilly. Everyone would have at least one heal with energize...but that is at later levels...

Ice armor...Simliar to above...all would have a self heal...but would be interesting with only tankers/stalkers...

shield...agian more individual focus and have to use team strategy...no real heal and if there is access to the body/energy epic pool/ then there is the second passive heal...

if you mean as the general defense set (both res and def buffs):

Then I say we may want to open up to a possible shield...so if fire themed allow a thermal per group or somthing...unlike the def set... the res gets hit constently but not as hard...thus an extra heal here and there can off set the numbers should we over aggro/a member goes down/a power sets provided heal (if it has one) is not yet recharged...

My quick to inf...

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I did mean all the "armor" sets, not just the defense-based ones.

Just to throw my 2 inf to the subject, I think that all single power set options should be fair game. The only one that I'm on the fence about is kinetics because it could also include kinetic melee.

This is just my preference but I like the idea of a single power team because it does limit choices, and it also forces people to think carefully about what they bring to the party. The rad team and the traps team did have their moments when they easily stomped through everything but they also had their moments where they team wiped. Anybody remember the Mender Laz that had 117 deaths?

In order to make the dark team more challenging, masterminds were excluded. Future teams could exclude masterminds and trollers because at higher levels they can become overpowered.

It's my personal opinion that whatever we decide, there will be the possibility for abusive stacking. That possibility is part of the reason I decided to join the superteam. I'll admit to being a bit of a powergamer but I really think the idea of taking a group of AT's that usually can't solo well and succeeding at challenging content with them is lots of fun.

I am all for the abuse stacking and like the idea of the all kinetic/kin melee/energy theme...my intention of my post was to try to state pro/con/feedback in general...just with the melee defesne sets...there is not much stacking (unless we all slot the heck out of burn for fire defesne or huddle close togeather for shield) that can over lap. From my viewpoint, a melee defese team would have to focus on a powergaming build (max as much def/resit as possible, team tatics/strategy, and more focus (not buff/run/profit). the melee persepctive would be a challenge...should the votes come down to an all time manp team or an easy buff/debuff/profit... i would be all for it.

This is exactly the kind of discussion I was hoping for. I came to roughly the same conclusion re: an all-melee team. Everybody's got to be a lot more self-sufficiant. Ironically, I think Dark Armor might work the best times eight--there are three auras that you could stack on enemies.

Anyway, I'm not pushing for melee; I prefer ranged overall. I'm personally hoping for Time or Beam. But it's cool to think about maybe someday having an all-melee "Implements of Destruction" team (any weapon set). I'd love to see all those in action at once.

I too prefer range over melee...cant stand it when i keep hitting 1 over and over and seeing the bad guy just run away and no attack discharging...then i realize its a melee power and not ranged...

I really enjoy teaming with our core group and we always seem to pull in some great newcomers with each project, however, the reason I originally joined Superteams WAS the abusive stacking of buffs. To me, the 2 are synonymous. We got a bit away from this with "Blades" and "Guns", but I still think the buffs are what made those teams. Not everyone has to be a buffer, but there are some cornerstone buffs to each team and when I play a non-buffer, I ALWAYS pick up Leadership and then some other team friendly pool like Med or Conceal.

I want to play Time Manip. I have purposely held off on leveling a Time toon because I want to do it with the Justice Superteamers. Hedge rattled off some numbers for 8 Time toons on Sunday, and I was drooling at the keyboard. I really want us to do only Time/Beam corrs and defs as I think the fun of spreading Disintegration would be great too, but am open to the possibility that that may be too restrictive so I'll start with all Time Manip.

I play Iron Eagles for the challenge, and it can be very stressful. When my highest IE to date died, I literally felt sick and did not play for a while. I play Superteams to MELT FACES! Let's stack buffs and break the game. If we want to up the challenge level, I think there are always ways to do that without purposely gimping our project themes to avoid stacking buff/debuff, most of which have been mentioned previously.

Hell, I'm willing to try the Apex/Tin Mage TFs with no alphas if we really want a challenge after we get a face melting team to 50.

Thanks for getting some discussion started, Starry! When you cast your ballots in 2012, please vote for Time Manipulation/Beam Rifle!

I've started a couple Time and Beam characters, but I also have held off leveling them in preference to doing it with the team. I'd be happy with Time/Beam (but not happy with redraw...), but I admit to liking some variety in the team.

I guess we'll have to start at +4/x8 at level one...

Melt faces = Fire Blast
I vote fire blast/time defs/corrs...we can melt faces and slow them down to take screenshots (well to a degree)!

Why wait till the next team for that? There's no reason that we couldn't unslot our alphas to give this a shot. The next question I have is if we're doing that for the challenge are other incarnate slots allowed as well?

I remember on the traps team when King would chase me down on his corr and pull out his tri-corder to throw a heal. When we teamwiped, I always tried to die near him so I could pass him a wakie and he'd get me up. Good times.

My resolution is to give Starry lots of opportunities to use vengeance.
