Nothing fancy except for 3 purple sets, no capped s/l or ranged def, 82% rech which isn't OMG, etc. And she didn't spec the build for AV soloing, meaning it has all the empathy teammate buffs that are useless on an AV and the Radiation AoEs, which makes it even more impressive.

Congrats Auroxis! Reminds of the first poster I saw long ago who soloed the ITF (when people found it hard, so he died a few times iirc but was the first to solo it and post on the forums) - the guy shocked everyone when he posted the build (fire/mm blaster I think), it was VERY cheap, capped ranged def but he even used sets like Detonation etc which we usually consider subpar, there were BoTZ when it gave a lot of defense but aside from that... The build was really average (in terms of cost I mean).

BTW do you think it would be possible without incarnate buffs? I guess it would if you put out enough DPS without Reactive and specced the build for ranged def and ST attacks for AV soling only, even without purple sets since you would have more places for other +rech and +def sets and an extra lotg in say, weave or cj.

Anyway gratz and this makes me want to make the son/son def I've been postponing - but I think he'd need at least cardiac because sonic, ya know. And insps or capped ranged def.

I wish folks would STOP going on about how Incarnate Powers make buffing powersets or ATs unnecessary. Incarante Powers do NOTHING for you under Lvl 45 or before having the time to run a ridiculous number of Trials. Period.

There are still many things in this game that happen before Lvl 50.

With capped ranged def maybe, but I'm not sure my attack chain without all the incarnate goodies is enough(there are better secondaries for ST attack chains). It's a he, by the way.

When I do play under 50, my buffs/debuffs are needed much more than they are at 50 so it balances out. If I wanted to play a character that had good solo capabilities under 45 I would pick a Scrapper, but then I would lose out on the ability to keep my team alive and cruising. Such is the trade-off within the AT system.

Some characters start out being weaker soloers than others, but through-out their career they can collect tools which make that weakness insignificant.

Thanks guys!

Hmm now this has my attention. As soon as I'm home from work I shall attempt to sculpt a build in mids that's both a team build and an AV solo'ing build. One thing I do know is that it will probably be pricey.

Let me just state that : Hover + Decent Attack Chain =/= Empathy is a decent solo set

Empathy is punished for its great team usefulness by being very poorly suited to soloing.
All that things like this do is push back the date that Empathy gets some well-needed attention in the superhero department.

However, Auroxis, Congrats on the accomplishment Well Done !
That was not an AV from that video. S/he was fighting the EB from the 1st Striga arc, Heracles I do believe. I distinctly remember this because I thought it was much ado about... not much. Heracles is weak to kb so the player was able to hover and keep the EB on his butt.

Global = Hedgefund (or some derivation thereof)

Note: This was a long time ago, pre-incarnate, pre-level shifts, pre-custom difficulty settings, maybe even pre-IOs. His version of Chimera is only an EB, not the AV version. Given the need for ~110 dps to take out an AV in 30 minutes, and pre-incarnate pre-fire max ST dps without outside buffs of roughly 85, I'm pretty sure it's the Reactive that finally tips the scales. Alternately Red Candy on an optimized IO build "could" tip the scale, but I'm not sure how much it would take. None of which changes the fact that defenders need to use their secondaries and can do a great deal more than the average player seems to realize.

Another important feature of the OP's build is the Achilles Heal res debuff procs, and the damage procs. The Achilles Heel and Lady Gray procs can only be slotted in defense debuff powers, are they are both in Neutrino Bolt.

If Manticore is weak to negative energy damage (I'm not sure whether this is the case), this build has a leg up against him. Other secondary defender powersets may not have the same capacity against Manticore because they can't slot defense debuffs sets.

I don't think the Lady Grey proc makes much of a difference even if Chimera is exceptionally weak to it.

If Chimera was exceptionally weak to Energy and/or Fire, then that would be a different story altogether. The only advantage I believe Radiation Blast has in this case(though this applies to most AV's if I'm not mistaken), is the stun from stacked Cosmic Burst while the purple triangles are down.

The procs won't make up for the difference for the fact that it's rad blast to start with. Or to put it another way, (Rad + Achilles) ~< Ice Blast without Achilles.

So I got my t3 Reactive on my Empath today and wanted to do some testing. First tried Chimera, mez was pissing me off since I don't have Clarion. Tried normal Romulus, problem was he ran everywhere. I didn't even need to use my toggles or heals/regen, he only attacked me once every 30 seconds or so. Just ran and ran and ran. Drove me nuts.

So I asked a friend to come in and taunt him so he'd stay in place. Just to get a rough idea for how long it'd take to drop him since I was taking him down before, just a PitA to chase him around.

So. With friend taunting (not attacking) it took me 10:54 to drop an even level Romulus with my Emp/Sonic. Once I get my Clarion t3 I'll attempt Chimera again. I didn't bother Frapsing it since you know, had someone taunting. Doesn't really count for a proper AV solo.

Although thinking about it, I was also at an arguable damage disadvantage. With 1 teammate taunting, I was only getting 2/3 the possible Vigilance buff :3

God it was boring though. I don't know how you blasted away at Chimera for 23 minutes, 11 was bad enough for me.

I wonder how you'd do with Clarion and no taunter, since Cosmic Burst was a big reason I didn't get mezzed as well. That shouldn't matter however, seeing as your faster kill speed lets you pop a Break Free with clear conscience.

Your damage disadvantage from vigilance is kinda nulled though, since you didn't have to fire off RA and Clarion, and the enemy was in place so you didn't have to move at all. Also, did you get the 75% damage version of T3 Reactive? I have the 50/25 one currently.

All that said... Damn sonics, makin' me jealous.

Aye well I did consider saying fuggit and bringing a tray full of BFs, wanted to do it without insps at first though.

Once I get all my ducks in a row I'll do a 'proper' run. Was also considering getting the webnade temp to keep him in place.

How did Cosmic Burst prevent you getting mezzed? I didn't tangle with him for long but it was his bow shots that were holding me. Did you not use CB and outrange him? If so that'd explain a lot of the time difference. I wasn't using Shout (because I don't even have it because it's a PoS) but I can chain Shriek and Scream gaplessly.

As for Reactive, nah I'm on 50% damage 25% -res. So given the Shriek/Scream machine-gunning, lots of -res Probably why he was so skittish, heh.

Cosmic Burst kept him mezzed most of the time when the PTOD's were down, so he couldn't attack me that often. Not only did I get to use less BF's, I rarely ever needed to use healing aura which helps with DPS.

QFT

He also had +3 immob protection, total +6, so you may have to work at it to hold him still if you're solo.
