Trial acct & SG
I don't think trial accounts can be in SG's (though that doesn't mean you weren't booted...I really don't know if there's a point an inactive leader can be overthrown).
The amount of time a Leader can be inactive is a setting under the SG Options. The longest it can be is 45 days.
When the SG Leader is inactive for that amount of time, the next character who logs on is promoted to Leader. If you had other players in the SG, one of them became Leader. I have inherited at least 2 SGs in that way, but allowed one of them to go to another active player (who was also not the original Leader).
Note that there have been several discussions in the Base Construction forum about how long to keep "founding members" in an SG once leadership changes due to the original leader's long-term inactivity. Some people keep founders indefinitely in the SG, some kick at various points in time. For the SGs that I personally "inherited", I kick any inactive character after the two-year mark.

Also just an FYI a while back they decided to add the rank of Super Leader to SG's. The player holding that rank is the defacto owner of the SG and can do whatever he or she wants with it regardless of what other members want.
The auto demote is still in effect if the Super Leader goes inactive longer than what it is set at. 45 day maximum.
From what I understand this rank was created because CS was getting drawn into too many petty disputes between SG members and their leaders. They will now only get involved when and if an actual EULA/player conduct violation occurs.
Sadly this means a person is out of luck if they return to the game and find that they've been kicked from an SG.
As long as there's a limit on SG membership, sometimes pruning the roster of people who haven't played in five years is necessary.
Or would you rather the SG stagnate and die because nobody who can actually invite people still plays anymore?

So he's been around long enough to know how SG's work and his account was active when I14 went live and the Super Leader rank was introduced.
If the OP really wanted to make sure that SG was in his control when he returned after his latest hiatus he should have turned it into a solo SG before leaving.
I don't know how long you were inactive, but yeah... not being in the game for a month and a half somewhat negates your 'leadership' of the SG. I wouldn't consider it disincentive to re-subscribe, after all they might be quite happy to have you back and put you back in charge of it. If not... well. Well.
The OP hasn't been gone that long. I checked his post history and he had an active account in Sept 2010. He may be one of those players that takes frequent breaks from the game since I can see he has been posting for a few months every year since 2005.

I logged back in using a trial key and discovered that my main is no longer leader of my SG, and in fact, he's not even in my SG, one I founded back in open beta.
Is SG access suppressed for trial accounts, to the degree that I don't even see my SG tag below my name?
Or was I booted from my SG by an active player who was auto-promoted to leader by the system after a certain elapsed time?
Thanks
