Can't View YouTube Videos In FireFox

I went to check out the video linked in this thread, and all I got was a black screen where the video should have been.

The only other videos I watch are on Blip, and those are working fine, as is the CoH UStream channel. Only YouTube won't work. Even if I disable AdBlock Plus and Greasemonkey.

Meanwhile, when I try to use LMGTFY, I can't, because it says, "Enable javascript to use LMGTFY.". However, Javascript IS enabled.

I'm using Firefox v3.6.16. The following Java things are:

Options > Content > Enable Javascript is Checked
Tools > Add-Ons > Extentions > Java Console 6.0.16 is Enabled
Tools > Add-Ons > Plugins > Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.260.3 is Enabled
Tools > Add-Ons > Plugins > Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U26 6.0.260.3 is Enabled.

I also went to my Control Panel, opened up Java, and clicked the button to check for updates. It found an update, and installed it.

Java is NOT javascript. One has nothing to do with the other.

However if you are using something like NOScript, you may have to temp or perm whitelist some script sources to make sites like YouTube work (ytimg.com) and check off Flash in the "Embeddings" tab.

Correct. However, I did everything I could with anything "java", just to be sure. With my luck, if I hadn't one of those Java things would have been the problem.

Nope. Not using NOScript. YouTube videos started working again today, but LMGTFY still says JS isn't enabled, and I have issues on some other sites, as well.

At this point, I'm about ready to give Firefox a giant **** YOU, and hope a reinstall will fix whatever crawled up its *** and died.

But isn't reinstalling it like saying "sorry" after giving it the "**** you"?

Have you tried to restart Firefox with Add-Ons disabled?

My coworker's computer had the same issue, and after a cursory google search, I found someone mentioning a particular theme causing problems. When I went to FF's default theme, everything worked perfectly fine.

Thank you, Champion.

I'll give that a try. I don't have any themes installed, so that shouldn't be the problem...

Maybe it's a temporary youtube thing. Same thing happened to me , I'm using Aurora (FF 6) but youtube videos wouldn't play for me neither in Aurora or Chrome, no problem with any other flash sites.

I gave up, went back to Mac OS X (I use a mac and run CoX in windows), didn't test youtube while I was in Mac OS but when I rebooted in windows a day later everything was fine with youtube again.

BTW isn't FF 3 officially not supported anymore by Mozilla?

Try adding an "s" to the http in the address and see if it plays. If that fixes it, try deleting all your Temporary Internet files and see if that fixes it for normal addresses. A few people on another message board I read had this issue and it helped them.

No https:// server for LMGTFY, it seems.

Anyway, after disabling all my addons, letting FF restart, and then enabling them one by one, I found that AdBlock Plus was problem with LMGTFY. I guess I blocked something that it turns out LMGTFY uses. Temporarily disabling ABP will work.

I now find random times when things will or won't work. *sigh* Ah well. It's better than it was before. Thanks for the advince/tips, all!

That's FF4, the most recent patched version of FF3 is still supported for the time being. Of course, given that the dev channel is already at FF8 due to their pathetic obsession with copying Chrome at every opportunity, who knows how long they'll continue to support the 3.x branch.

You can allow for that page or site only with AdBlock Plus. I have a number of sites whose "ads" I allow through because I don't want my favorite webcomics to go away.
