How to keep LCTRL+LBUTTON from setting permanent power
Ctrl+Click setting a power to auto isn't a bind; it's hard coded into the program. The only way to stop it from setting powers to auto is to not do it. Sorry.
@Roderick
I use Ctrl+Tab for targetting. Fairly frequently, I'll forget to let go (or let go too slowly) of my left control key before selecting a power from my tray with the left mouse button, which changes my current permanent power. I'd like to keep the ability on RCTRL+LBUTTON, but could live with it on another key.
I've tried: /bind lctrl+lbutton "nop" /bind ctrl+lbutton "nop" Is there any way to prevent this behavior, or is this just a UI issue that I have no control over? It's caused unintentional pulls, etc., when targeting without meaning to attack. |
Also, to help other people in understanding you, please use 'setting a power to auto' instead of permanent. I don't know about any one else, but when I read your tittle, I thought "He/She/It found a way to achieve Permanent Power! Just by Control Clicking the screen! :O"
Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.
Thought recognized the Q. Sorry my answer didn't work - didnt know it was hard coded.
"Chord" keys - shift, alt, and control - when used as chord do not differentiate between left or right.

When used with another key, the "R" and "L" versions of the chord keys will not work.
Example:
/bind LShift+1 "say left shift one."
/bind RShift+1 "say right shift one."
/bind Shift+1 "say shift one."
If you bound them in the same order as I have them, when you press any shift key and the 1 key, you will get "shift one."
Now, if you bind them in this order:
/bind Shift+1 "say shift one."
/bind LShift+1 "say left shift one."
/bind RShift+1 "say right shift one."
When you press any shift key and the 1 key, you will get "right shift one."
The same can be said with:
Control+<Key>, RControl+<Key>, LControl+<Key>, Ctrl+<Key>, RCtrl+<Key>, LCtrl+<Key> = all act on either control key.
Alt+<Key>, LAlt+<Key>, Ralt+<Key> = all act on either alt key.
<Key> can be any keystroke, mouse button, or joystick/gamepad button.
I hope this clears things up.

Thanks for the info/suggestions. I had originally written auto, but thought I remembered it being called permanent in the docs for some reason (late hour, old age, . . .).
I play on a laptop more than half the time, which doesn't have a number pad, and using the number keys at the top is not a good option for me. My brain isn't wired to play differently on my laptop and desktop, so I only very infrequently use the number pad on my desktop.
Switching from Ctrl-Tab to some other combination for target next sounds like it would be my best option.
I don't know if this affects others as it does me. I may add it to the suggestions.

I also mapped as many functions as possible to keys around the AWSDX cluster. Basically, all powers and movement can performed with the left hand on the keyboard and the right hand on the mouse. I do have to use the number and function keys to do this, but all my keyboards work the same way.
Due to the busy nature of graphics on the screen, it's often difficult to even find the cursor, much less use the mouse to click on a power. Pressing keys is much faster and more reliable. Similarly, I avoid using shift and control for the most commonly used functions to avoid errors.
Trying to use the mouse to click a green, for example, has gotten me killed several times, whereas quickly pressing F1 (which is mapped to the column of inspirations where I keep greens) has saved my life countless times.
