What does this mean (Netgraph Pic)

I'm desperate!

My main is perma-stuck in Pocket D because immediatly as he enters he gets this look on Netgraph and cannot do anything until he mapservers out. He can't even log out and I have to force City of Heroes to End Task to get it to quit.

Another character of mine cannot publish anything in the Mission Archtect. As soon as I hit Publish this same netgraph pattern shows up and I am once again stuck until I mapserver.

Other characters get hit with this same netgraph style randomly throughout my play time and sometimes (rarely) it looks like this instead.

And EVERY time I get disconnected this way I cannot log back in for five to ten minutes.

I'm torn between thinking it's my problem or it is City of Heroes'. The day issue 20.5 came out is when this all started happening, except the night before I switched from High Speed internet back to DSL/Cable because it was faster. Randomly DCing during my play session? I could see that being something with my connection. DCing every time I log on to a specific character? I don't think that is me.

What does this mean and how do I go about fixing it?! Where's the desperation emoticon?

Okay this is probably something you're going to need to report to Customer Service.

But, in the interim, can you follow the link to my "How to ask for help" guide and paster your CoH Helper and HijackThis logs in this thread?

It's possible that you have something running in the background that's eating tons of bandwidth and locking you up. The logs would be helpful in finding out.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

Essentially this is just turning Netgraph on or off.

He's already got netgraph on and is noting anomalous behavior that he'd like explained.

Also run a ping test on your modem, you might also be losing connection intermittently and this can also cause the mapserve.

Go to cmd and at the prompt type "ping www.yahoo.com -t"

let it run a bit and see if you lose connection, it will say time out.

If that keeps happening you might also have to call comcrap or whoever your cable provider is.

Thanks, NC Soft, for closing my favorite game ever without warning and with plenty of life still left in it, and thus relieving me of the burden of EVER wanting to buy, try or even hear about another game from your company. Will my decision make a dent, or persuade them in anyway, shape or form? Nope, obviously not. Don't care. NC Soft is dead to me. ~ PsyFox

It's definitely due to your connection. I had something similar happen a while ago.

Try port forwarding City of Heroes and see if that helps. Chances are this could just be your routers' firewall being a troll.

If this doesn't work turn off your monitor.

This is just after turning my computer on. Is that alright, or should it be done during my play session?

When I first logged my Main in it said "Request Timed Out" once, then from there on it ranged from:

Reply from 67.195.160.76: bytes=32 time=37ms TTL=50
to
Reply from 67.195.160.76: bytes=32 time=42ms TTL=50
with a couple spikes at
Reply from 67.195.160.76: bytes=32 time=120ms TTL=50

This went on from zone in, to disconnect. When I disconnected it did not say Request Timed Out. It just continued to vary between 37-42ms.

Also, as the others have stated, what I was saying is that the specific look to the netgraph was showing up when I had it on, not the netgraph itself. I can totally see how you could read it the other way though. I'll go back and try to make it more clear.

More important question: How do you have 2 unclaimed respecs available? I thought they didn't stack?

Do you get similar connectivity issues to the CoX website and these forums at the same time as your disconnection issues ingame? Is there any pattern to the times of day that you're getting the problem?

That system message tells you the number of free and earned respecs, not just the free ones. It's just the free ones that don't stack.

Yes. When I cannot log into the game after I disconnect, I also cannot get to the CoH website, however I can get to other websites.

Not that I have noticed, but I started journaling the times.

I had this issue years ago whenever I tried to play on Guardian. It got so bad that I left my home server for a while and played on Infinity.

It turned out that *lots* of people were having an issue similar to mine, which was this: we lived on the east coast but were playing on west coast servers. We all had the same ISP, and eventually it was determined that there was a bad router 'out there' somewhere on the internets.

Some very smart people came up with predictable/repeatable results and were able to get the ISP in question (Comcast) to actually diagnose and repair the equipment.

In which case, next time you get the problem, try:
Code:
pathping cityofheroes.com > C:\pathping.txt
It'll sit there for about 5 minutes not appearing to do anything, but it's just outputting to a text file (C:\pathping.txt) rather than the console so that it doesn't bugger up the formatting

Once it's complete, paste the contents of said text file back here and we can take a look at where along the line you're getting the problem.

Update your video drivers. Using Windows XP and that video card, I recommend trying the 197.45 drivers instead of the more current 2xx.xx series of drivers.

Of course, you should follow proper video card driver uninstall/safe mode cleaning/install procedures using a program such as Driver Sweeper.

Should I clean it up somehow, or can you read it this way?

What's the reason behind the 197.45 drivers rather than the more up to date ones?

Ouch, looks like Level3 in Chicago is not only dropping half your packets but also failing entirely to route any of them beyond the edge of their network.

Personally not had any problems with the latest drivers, but then my card is much more recent than yours. Often past a certain point, new drivers can either simply no longer improve performance on older cards or actually degrade performance as the manufacturers don't really bothered testing against the hardware as rigorously any more.

Am I correct in assuming that is a service provider problem rather than a City of Heroes one?

Yep. Good catch Spad.

Think I'm going to add this to the guide, if you don't mind.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

Well, without making too many assumptions based on a single data point, yes, it looks like your ISP's upstream provider is having some issues routing to NCSoft. Would be interesting to see a similar trace from someone else routing through the same Level3 hops.

Please do. One thing to add is that posting the pathping in [ code ][ /code ] tags makes it much easier to read as it does a better job of preserving the formatting
