Upgrade Auras...with buffs?
The thing I like more than anything about this game is that you can have a character that looks completely plain in a t-shirt and jeans that can handle the same enemies that a huge sword wielding glowing guy in full armour can take down. Adding any form of buff to auras makes it so to be as effective as everyone else, you have to glow or emit flames even if it makes no sense to do so on your costume.

On another note, as to not come off as some sort of jerk, I do completely agree with you. I like that aspect of this game, that physical appearance has nothing to do with how much you can handle, size or gender.

Hell no! The last thing this game needs is to have ANY sort of effect, other than cosmetic, tied to any sort of costume piece or aura.

And it got me thinking, what if the customization of a costume actually benefited your character?.

I do NOT want my abilities, stats, etc. tied to what costume I use. It's one of the reasons I've kept playing this game for as long as I have - I can look *how* I want, without being any less effective (or have to give up a look I started with and REALLY like because my Noobly Sword of Wet Paper has to be upgraded so I can do more than tickle a level 20 minion... even though I like my Noobly Sword f Wet Paper and it fits my character.) Or have to look like every OTHER <insert at/powerset here> because the GEAR DEMANDS IT!
Tie your customization to your IOs or one of your dual (or, once Incarnate-dom is unlocked, triple) builds. NOT to costume pieces.
Sorry but unsigned.
The costume=power idea I do not agree with. I understand where you are coming from, but I much prefer the previously stated ability to hold on to something passe and still not be any less effective.
So, Issue 20.5 Ascend came out, and I used ten Astral Merits and bought a random aura, the Magnetic Aura. Looks pretty cool. And it got me thinking, what if the customization of a costume actually benefited your character? My first thought of course was having Smashing, Lethal, and Energy resistance from having Magnetic as my current aura. I thought it would be interesting to add small buffs, maybe the same percentages as things from Secondary Mutation of the Mutant Pack, and just add those to the variety of different auras. Thing's like certain types of resistance or defense, or say, if you're costume is using the Glowing aura, its a PBAoE -tohit debuff? ie. its Blinding the enemies. Just an idea I thought up, let me know what you all think.

Guess what you just suggested.

It is a cool idea, it really is, but I do agree that one of my favorite things about this game is that my powers and my costume are totally separate mechanically. Now, that is not to say they need to be roleplayed separately. If you want to pretend that the cloud and lightning aura at your feet is due to the intense heat and kinetic chaos your powers are emitting, you should.
If you want to play that the glowy arcs of electricity are keeping you safe, do so. Just because it is really weave, maneuvers, CJ, and bunches of set bonuses actually keeping you safe, does not mean you should not pretend its the aura of your choice.
Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.
Tactics are for those who do not have a big enough hammer. Wisdom is knowing how big your hammer is.
....no....
No, but flip it. Let us disable more Primary, Secondary and Power Pool aura FX so that our Cossie Auras can be more easily passed off as the source of buffs.
The fact my Plant/Emp/Primal has to be Rainbow Brite if she wants her resistance shield is really annoying. I want to have just the Fireflies cossie aura to represent it.
