AV's and how to find them?

Hello Everyone,

So, I've been playing CoX for a while now but I never really followed any of the story lines or did the contacts content, I usually just do Radio/Paper mishs to level and the very rare AE story.

But, now I would like to get my little group of friends and try to do some AV's, So far the only one I've ever done is Frostfire.

How does one go about getting mish;s against AV's? are they are story-line or contacts content only? Yes, I could make an AE mish with one (I Think) but I want the title and or goodies too.

HELP!

My current team is level 18ish, I will have to use Orbo to do Frostfire again I guess.

Frostfire is not an AV but an Elite Boss. The first AV you would run into at that level would be Dr. Vahzilok in a mission or during the second half of the Positron TF. In Faultine you could run into a couple running the missions there.

Protector Server
Woeful Knight (BS/Regen/Body Scrapper)
Kevin Christian (MC/FF/Primal Controller)
SilverCybernaut (Eng/Dev/Munitions Blaster)
Apixie OhNo (Fire/Fire/Pyre Tanker)
Y'ru Glowen (Rad/Rad/Psy Defender)

The story arcs from the contacts in Faultline contain some AV encounters. That would be my suggestion for your level range.

Not sure what level your group is at, but running the Oro TF will introduce you to a bunch of AVs/Heroes, along with the Jade Spider. We run it all the time to test builds or just to have fun smashing Mrs Lib in the face As there are no team number requirements.

Good luck!

edit: whoops just re-read that your lev 18ish - my bad...anyways, something to do when you get to 45

AV's are rare in the low levels; you face Dr Vahz in part 2 of Positron's TF (11-15), the Clockwork King in Synapse's TF (15-20) and an AV in each of the rest of the signature TF's (each in a higher 5 level range) as you level up. Nearly every TF in the game will have at least 1 AV encounter; the only exception that comes immediately to mind is part 1 of Positron's TF.

In story arcs Dr Vahz appears in an arc in the 15-20 range and there's several AV's in the Faultline arcs. You'll face a few AV's in the Striga Island arcs in the 20's as well. AV's don't become (relatively) common until you get into the 40's and are running the arcs in Peregrine Island.

Elite Bosses are more common, that's what you've faced in Frostfire. They're much weaker than a true AV with lower damage, FAR lower hit points and less mez protection. One thing to be aware of is that depending on your team size and difficulty settings AV's can downgrade to Elite Boss status... this was added years ago so that solo players or small groups can run the missions without getting stopped cold by an AV they couldn't beat.

AV's that you find in the lower levels tend to be far weaker than those you'll face later on, just like the enemy groups you see now are much weaker than those you'll face in the higher levels; they're designed to be handled by a typical team of their level. Dr. Vahz for example is a pushover compared to Ghost Widow or Lord Recluse, two of the most dangerous AV's in the game.

I don't know how far you've gotten in the game over the time you've played but the difficulty level will rise as you level up; high level content is generally much harder than the low level stuff.

It's not like you'll find them gathered near the Donut shop in Faultline every Thursday discussing their evil plans. You find them by doing mission story arcs which for your style of play (radio/AE) isn't something you've chosen to participate in the past.

I don't remember off hand how many of these can be found at Ouroboros. As for which story arcs maybe their entries at ParagonWiki may tell you.

I do remember that Dr. Vahz was pre level 20 and the first one you could get in CoH. Also in the 45-50 range there is the arc with all of the Praetorian counterparts that con as AVs. I don't remember them all but that's why there's a Wiki.

you wont start running into a lot of AVs till at least the mid to upper 30s in normal story arcs, most of the AVs you will see between then are in tfs or the occasional story arc

Faultline has Kurse, Nocturne, Arbiter Sands and Captain Castillo I believe. From Arcs, you can fight Dr. Vazhilok, think from a level 15-20 contact.

That's it as far as I can remember at that range.

One actually, Maestro. This assuming you are not including the Hess TF that you can unlock by completing the last arc for that zone.

Here's the list of AVs in the game.

You're right, it's been awhile since I played that arc and I was miss-remembering. I do remember that Maestro was a total wimp of an AV that I soloed with my issue 5 era Broadsword/Regen scrapper.

And you run into the latter three multiple times. In the last mission you get all three at once

1. Get your group together.

2. Go to Faultline. This is South of Skyway, or you can get there through a manhole in the hallways of Pocket D.

3. Go talk to Jim Temblor. He hangs out in the park South of the donut shop and the hospital. Jim Temblor is a mission contact that you don't need to have been introduced to first, so he will talk to anyone as long as you're in his level range (15-19). He will give you a mission to help Fusionette, and after that return to him and he will give you the second mission in his arc (after returning once, you should be able to call him on the phone; he'll be listed in your contacts). Jim's arc includes the AVs Kurse and then Nocturne. If you run his arc, he should introduce you to Doc Delilah or Penelope Yin (Penelope's arc does not contain any AVs, but it's fun and she will definitely introduce you to Doc Delilah at the end).

Doc Delilah's arc contains the AVs Arbiter Sands and Captain Castillo. At the end she'll introduce you to Agent G, whose arc includes repeat performances from Nocturne, Sands, and Castillo. (Agent G's missions are for level 20-24, you might possibly outlevel them before you get through the other arcs).

In any case these missions are fun, contain some unique maps, and also are your best bet for facing off against some AVs at your level. I would also reccomend the Positron Task Forces -- they're challenging but fun, also with unique maps, and with the AV Dr. Vahzilok at the end of the 2nd one. You can run one of them in about 45 minutes to an hour and a half depending on how fast your team is.

One word of warning: Synapse's Task Force is a pretty long one. It's not unusual for it to take 2 hours or more, especially with a group that's never done it. That's why I'd reccommend the Faultline arcs and the Posi TF first.

Frostfire is an EB that can scale up to an AV, as well as Ada, the Troll. They are usually EBs, but they can be spawned as AVs.

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

Nope. See list of AVs. Frostfire and Atta are not on it. No team I have ever been on has spawned either as an AV and a team of 8 would easily do that.

Amy_Amp is correct. Frostfire in the Hollows arc does not upgrade to an AV. He's coded straight as an EB.
