New computer need quick advise

Hey I'm looking to build a new rig and and really want to build a beast I have budgeted about two grand for this project. I've shopped around and this is what I've come up with. Mind you this is not just to play this game but many games. I have had several inexpensive comps in the past and they done me fine, but ive gotten tired of HAVING to play on low settings, yada yada yada....

This is what I'm thinking of getting. Let me know if I'm getting stuff that isn't compatible or just plain dumb, I don't mind flames as long as it's helpful. Thanks...

It's only because I had a bad experience once, but I honestly think everyone should have 2 hard drives, as well as an external.

EDIT: I just re-read your post, so I removed what was unimportant.

Personally not a fan of the HD 6790. The "let's disable even more of an HD 6870 to fit a certain price point" mentality doesn't excite me. Flashbacks of the HD 5830.

I don't have a problem with a pair of HD 6850s. Should be $30-40 more.

Also serious overkill for the motherboard. Talk about tossing in everything AND the kitchen sink.

Are you planning on overclocking? That DDR3 2000 memory might be overkill if not. If I were you, I'd go for memory with a lower data rate (but also lower latency), like DDR3 1600 or even 1333.

For the CPU, I'd forget about the hex-core and go with a quad-core. There still aren't many games that even use more than one or two cores, so unless you plan to do a LOT of video editing or media recoding, there's little point to a hex-core.

I will say that the X6 has that Turbo mode that automatically overclocks it to 3.7GHz, if no more than three cores are in use at a time... which would apply to most games. But for the same price, you can get an X4 that can run at 3.7GHz all the time on all cores. Or, if you prefer, spend less money and get a lower-clocked X4 965 or 970, which you should easily be able to overclock to 3.7GHz or beyond.

And the videocard? I'm of the camp that says, get the fastest single-GPU card you can afford. (Not all games benefit from Crossfire or SLI.) The money you save on getting a quad-core CPU instead of a hex-core, would let you afford a Radeon 6870, giving you 30-40% faster frame rates in most games.

Thanks alot for the feedback guys.

As for the motherboard i really dont want to skimp on that and would like to keep it. i think its a great for all my current and future needs. if im wrong its not gonna kill my rig.

I will actually be puttin 8gigs of ram into this either with 4 sticks of 2 (CORSAIR Vengeance 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 Desktop Memory) ... or 2 sticks of 4(Corsair Vengeance 8 GB ( 2 x 4 GB ) DDR3 1600 MHz ) i have not yet decided.

I Do like the point of the 6 core... tbh... i saw it and just went oooo shiny!! lol

Phenom II X4 965 Black AM3 3.4Ghz 512KB 45NM 125W 4000MHZ, this is prolly what i will most likley be getting.

The vid card. I am actually thinking of stacking two cards and the card i mentioned is what i plan to use. Now im not too familiar with cards tbh so any additional help here would be nice

1: Going with 4 sticks of 2GB memory isn't as optimal (or expansion-ready) as going with 2 sticks of 4GB).

2: DDR3 2000 is overkill.

3: No offense but the Velociraptors are a waste of money. You're better off going with a 128GB drive for OS/Game and a 2GB drive for storage.

4: If you're looking for max performance, going to a 6-core AMD isn't the way to go. Right now, until we see something for the next-gen AMD chips, the Intel i7 is the way to go. It's even more OC-friendly with the K-series processors. My boss is running a 2600K right now and with a MILD overclock is seeing 3.8Ghz with no adverse thermal or processing effects.

Here's an Intel rework of your system:

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Pu...umber=23881028

Intel 2600K Processor
z68 Motherboard (This is a Gigabyte "bare bones" version. But you still have lots of budget if you want to step up to the "enthusiast" boards.)
8GB RAM (4GBx2): DDR3 1600 (Not really necessary since spec is DDR3 1333)
128GB Crucial SSD
2GB Hard drive with 64MB cache
Radeon 6950 (2GB variant...helpful with higher FSAA levels)
750W PSU (Thermaltake ToughPower)
64-Bit Win7 Home Premium
12x Blu-Ray burner

If you're in the US: $1679.89

Basically, save in a couple of MASSIVELY multithreaded apps (none of which are games), this system will eat the AMD system's lunch and steal its milk money.

Thanks for the feed back Hyperstrik, TBH i would really like to stay away from intel, not only have i had bad experiences with Intel, i also feel that you pay for alot more just for the name.

Hmm. Where do I start....

CPU: Phenom II x6 1100T is at the end of the line and will be replaced by Bulldozer in September. Intel 2500K or 2600K. Best performance ATM for the money.

GPU: 6790 isn't that good a card, its a reject 6850. Not a fan of Crossfire when a single card performance has less hassles. With your budget a single 6970 is a much better choice. Nvidia GTX 570 is a good alternate.

Your motherboard is overkill too.

I'd go with Hyperstrike's suggestion.

H: Blaster 50, Defender 50, Tank 50, Scrapper 50, Controller 50, PB 50, WS 50
V: Brute 50, Corruptor 50, MM 50, Dominator 50, Stalker 50, AW 50, AS 50
Top 4: Controller, Brute, Scrapper, Corruptor
Bottom 4: (Peacebringer) way below everything else, Mastermind, Dominator, Blaster
CoH in WQHD

I dunno about bad luck.

Everyone has it.

Also, you DID see where the system I built was:

A: More powerful as a gaming system
B: $40 cheaper

Right?

I know you may be wary. But, realistically, if you're building a high-end gaming rig, AMD just, unfortunately, isn't in the running. Maybe once we see Bulldozer specs. But until then, Intel's the best bang for the buck.

Also, as Newchemicals pointed out, ESPECIALLY for CoH, Crossfire and/or SLI aren't the best solution. It's better to go with a single, more powerful card. You don't run into any X-Fire/SLI issues and the card itself has more than enough "oomph" to play anything.

Sire, listen to Xmas and Hyperstrike and go with the I7. You are paying this much for kicking rig, do not put a V4 engine in your Mustang GT now.

If you can wait a few months... see what the new AMD chips bring to the table and how impact pricing... it is almost July already.

I think you mean a 128GB SOLID STATE DRIVE for OS/Game and a 2 *TB* drive for storage.

And, on re-reading your post, I see you list a 128GB Crucial SSD further down. I have one of those.

Yeah. Sorry. Haven't gotten myself broken to typing *TB* yet.

Maybe tech-fogeydom is setting in...

We'll see. Just remember, the best time to buy is always NOW. You can "just wait a little longer for something better" forever. And yes, you'll wind up with something better...if you ever buy anything.

If you don't see actual shipping product by the end of July, go get yourself the i7 system (which is only going to keep getting cheaper).
