SS/Shield: 40% Res...

Is possible?

My friend said to make a shield with 40% resistance is already good.

It is better to build a resistance-based damage and incarnates and use for the rest.

It is possible to do a build without using these features purple?

I will be waiting for suggestions and / or builds, thanks in advance.

Hugs

Do you mean actual resistance, or defense? Shield is a def based power set and adding resist is rather difficult with IOs. The goal for Shield defensively is to hit 45% for the def soft cap.

Posted

In addition, by slotting Deflection for resistance and taking Tough from the Fighting pool you can get around 35% S/L resistance, which would also be useful to have.

But other than that, as Amy said Shield Defense is primarily a positional defense set, so you want to aim for 45% defense to all positions. And yes, you can pretty easily achieve both goals without purples.

You can actually get up to 45% SM/L resistance on a shield brute (and be softcapped).

It requires:

  • ED Capped/Near ED Capped Res slotting in Deflection
  • Cardiac Core Paragon
  • 3% Resistance Shield Wall Unique
That will get you 40-41% SM/L resistance.

Then you can take Barrier Core Epiphany for a permanent 5% resistance to all, which will get you to 45~46%

True, but it also has resistance built into it.

Slot for defense first. resistance second. I also like to 6 slot Deflection with three defense IOs (Luck of the Gambler) and three resistances. (Aegis)

That's right, my friend said it is not hard to reach 40% of res! But since he stopped playing, I did not know how.

My question is: how? Do you have build?

I want it only to build, no need to use the incarnate! Making the build based on damage and res, I use the incarnates for endurance and recharge!

Do you have any build?

I thank everyone for their opinions and if they can build post I appreciate it. Be test build, study or ready! : p

I should of asked 40% resistance of what. Yes, Shield has resistance, but you are really looking only at getting S/L high up and not say 40% to everything.

I was thinking one thing.

We build based on the res and damage. Incarnate to solve the problem of endurance and improve rech ...

Where comes the ACC? Because brute has a small problem with that is not it?

40% resistance to all is not worth the effort, even if its possible.

40% to all, yes. To just S/L, doable.

Made a build. It needs the PvP +3% Res IO to get 41.5%, but even without it it's at 38.5 which is damn near close. Plus softcap.

It's worth keeping the manauvers? It does not consume a lot of endurance?

Tks for build! I'll try when I get home!

Maneuvers does not use enough endurance to warrant dropping it. It is worth the endurance for the defense it gives.

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.

Not to mention that, stacked with Grant Cover, a LOT of teammates will be QUITE happy fighting by you with a 15% boost it defense.

Do note that you CAN turn off Drop Cover to conserve endurance when you solo but it has a good chunk of your defense debuff resistance, so make sure you have it when you need it.

Try taking Darkest Night from the Soul Mastery Epic Pool. Toggle, -tohit/-21% damage debuff, 25' radius, 16 target max.

Hope this build helps. You will need the Cardiac Core alpha:

Cardiac Core Paragon is, in my opinion, the best possible alpha for an SS/SD Brute.

It reduces your endurance consumption across the board AND also increases your resistance.

Endurance is your number once concern on this build, after you are softcapped.

Made a build. It needs the PvP +3% Res IO to get 41.5%, but even without it it's at 38.5 which is damn near close. Plus softcap.

I used this build as a base and made some improvements, several things were overslotted or slotted with a bit less efficiency then they could have been. Tough only had 4 Aegis pieces which I didn't understand, you need the 5th piece here.

If Dinamo is willing to get the 3% Glad Unique, I can increases his recharge.

The Armageddon set in Footstomp is completely optional and can be changed to 5 or 6 piece Obliteration (as Cardiac will reduce the End use)

Accolades and Incarnate must be turned on, the build uses Cardiac Core Paragon.

Thanks for the explanation!

I will not use purple because it is a lot of money, does not compensate in my opinion, even more now with the incarnates powers, the cost/benefit for me no is good!!

My char have a lot of accolades!

No problem.

You have a few choices then, but since you are already softcapped I would just stick with Obliteration for the recharge.

1) 5 Slots allows you to take the Force Feedback proc.

2) 6 Slots will also give you enough melee defense to change Touch of Death in punch to Crushing Impact.

Option 1 provides a random boost to your overall recharge, which probably averages out to 15-20% over time if you are always fighting a lot of enemies but gives you very little when you are not.

Option 2 provides a straight 5% increase.
