Wait, are Rularuu weapons still level-locked on villain-side?

Today was... Weird. I wanted to try a Claws Brute of mine with some Rularuu Claws, and to do so, I asked a friend of mine to help provide the story arc needed to unlock them. I was originally looking to run the Bravo of the Shadow Shard arc by Tech Naylor, but this... Didn't work. My friend couldn't start it via Ouro because I had to be in the zone, which I couldn't with a level 9 Brute, and when we tried it in his base, the game told him I wasn't in the right level range. He didn't have a character in the absurdly specific 37-39 range for Naylor's Bravo of the Shadow Shard, so we changed plans.

Turns out he had another character with Efficiency Expert Pither as a contact, but he hadn't done his Alone in the Darque arc. I knew for a fact that this arc unlocked Rularuu weapons. However, when we finished the arc, I still didn't have Rularuu weapons unlocked on my character, leading me to conclude that I need to run the arc, myself. I didn't miss the reward in any mission, I didn't door-sit, I mixed it up in every fight (to unimpressive effect) but at the end of the arc, I got zilch.

OK, so what does that mean, then? I CANNOT get the Rularuu weapons until I'm at least level 37 and grab Tech Naylor's arc? I remember whining about the 100 Overseers defeat badge for the hero-side unlock, but at least with the Shard open to all levels, a low-level character can be helped with this task. I've had Rularuu's Bane unlocked on a level 1 Scrapper. So, what? Is it impossible to unlock these things ahead of time on villain-side? What gives?

I think it's inadvertent. You get the unlock by Shard related accomplishments like getting a badge or completing a mission arc. As it happens, a mission arc only counts as having been done by you when you personally have the mission; you don't get the unlock from someone else's story arc any more than you get the Souvenir for the arc. But a kill badge just requires you be on the team doing the killing. Before they removed the zone level limits that meant it was actually easier for villains to get the unlock; an inadvertent side effect of the unlock is that low level heroes can join a badge team in the Shard and get the weapons early.

Just this week I got burned by the very same arc. Well, I got my claws, but my two friends, that I waited to complete the arc to catch them both online, to get them their weapons, got nothing. That was quite the bummer.

Of course mistakenly thinking that the badge mission that Technician Naylor has unlocks the claws and waiting to catch said friends online at the same time was a downer as well.

Villain side unlocks for both Rularuu weapons and Redcap daggers are still, frankly, bull hokey.

Then again, MOST of the weapon unlocks are bull hokey, sadly. The only reasonable ones IMO are the Council rifles which don't even require a badge; you just punk 100 Council soldiers.
Nice and simple and ties in thematically; why is that not a standard model?
(Although that still wouldn't help Villain side...yay)

Sow hat we need is a villain mission full of over seers that can be farmed for the badge?

Can you farm them in Technician Naylor's stuff?

It's actually 200, and technically it unlocks off an invisible badge (the same one required to unlock Viridian).

Yes, but seeing how the souvenir unlocks them anyway it's going to be faster to speed through the four missions of his second arc. Although I've heard it's bugged for Female Claws users. Dunno if that's still true.

So unless you're trying to farm them for someone who can't get the mission there's no point.

Edit: I need to read the OP better. Yeah, Samuel and his friend would have had to keep resetting the mission until they earned the defeat badge. If you wanted it at level one you'd have to turn off XP.

First, you have to KNOW you need Naylor.
Second, you need to make sure you know EXACTLY is in his contact tree.
Third, you have to hop onto said tree at exactly the right level in Nerva, make SURE as hell that you don't outlevel it, and then, finally, you can have your shot at Rularuu weapons.

That seems ridiculously overcomplicated to me.

But it's still reasonable. Beating up 200 goons of any class (unlike the damn Family Tommygun unlock) works fine and makes sense. Beat up bad guys, take their guns.

I wouldn't want to farm Overseers inside a mission for a couple of reasons.

1. Farming missions is needlessly complicated and fat
and
2. Missions scale to the level of the person who took them, unlike hunting Overseers in the Shard where they can be level 40 and you can be level 50.

By the looks of things, I just won't have Rularuu weapons on this character. Possibly ever. I don't think I'll be able to focus on her long enough to get her to 37 before losing interest and putting her on hiatus. Which is a pity.

I'm with the Techbot on this one. Weapon unlocks for almost all unlockable weapons are "Fudge! Puppies! Baby hippos!" The Tommygun, the Red Caps daggers, the Rikti axes and swords, the Romulus sword and shield and so on. See, when I see threads like "Would you pay for <...> pack?" this is why I say "Yes!"

I am seriously disappointed right now. I was hoping I could have an even more threatening character through the use of the huge blades with eyes on them, but it looks like that ain't happening. Oh, well.

Some consolation at least you can get incidental Overseers in Villain tip missions at 50. That said, it's not much of a consolation I'm sure. I'd probably be more likely to switch to Rogue for a romp in the Shard to fix the problem now.

tbh it would seem easier to get to 20 Tip to blue side and get them that way.

It's easiest to not bother, really, that's the sad part. I made a character with large black claws, I got used to using a character with large black claws and I no longer have enough motivation to go out of my way for a look I may or may not like. and Rularuu claws are anchored at the forearm, not the wrist, too, so I'm not even sure if they'll work for me.

Whenever, whatever. Technician Naylor isn't going anywhere. I'm just disappointed, is all.

Point taken. It's definitely a step up from killing 100 Illusionists (remember when it used to be 300? Oh those were the days...) to get a weapon they don't even use.

Just goes to show they need to add weapon unlock vouchers to the E-merit vender.

I won't like it, but it'll be better than what we have now. That or a paid pack. I'd definitely buy that. After all, I got the Party Pack and I don't regret it.

OK, let me turn this thread into something positive, if possible: Could someone who has the Rularuu Claws show me either a video or some pics of the Claws animations with them? I worry that because the claws are mounted to the forearms (why, by the way?), that they'll look odd with the actual in-game animations similar to how Vanguard Claws look awkward without the right gloves.

However, because the game hates me, I can't try it. I can't check power animations in the Architect editor and I can't use Vanguard Claws on any of the characters I have, so I really have no way to know if I'll even LIKE the things.
