I can view both of my (long inactive) US trial accounts from my Master Account.

Looks like I'll be getting in touch with support and politely asking them to amend the account name on the US one that clashes with my EU one (and when I get the "cannot be renamed" response, I'll point out that they ARE renaming one of my accounts, so why can't they rename the one I want them to, please escalate, etc, etc).

Customer Support most likely have no means to do it; no tools have been created to do it. The Global Server Access would have specific tooling/scripts done for that particular merge only.

Popular theory is they are removing the old ones and making new ones in the current US database.

Just got a little reply and as I can understand it...
I'm my own worst enemy.
I have two accounts under my global. The one is my paid EU account and the other is a trial NA account.
From what I got told: An account once made cannot be renamed or removed apperantly.

Remember we are talking of 7 years programming.
I was hoping there would be possible to have a script running (since one script will be running anyway, namely the tag script), saying something like: If both accounts are under same global account AND if NA account is Trial Then tag Trial account with Trial. (Problem should be solved)

Oh well at least we will no longer be segregated on server status, just feels sour that some of us gets the rename due to our own trial accounts.
But hey, we will be one big community then (instead of two).

I wanted an account renamed.. this is my latest response from the support desk from NCSOFT who controls the Master accounts!

I appreciate the reply.

I apologize again for the frustration you may be having with the upcoming changes. However, I cannot run a script to change account names. We do not change account names for any reason, this however, being an exception since the servers are merging. The NCsoft Billing and Account Support Teams do not make changes such as this, as we do not have the capability to do so. Nor do we delete accounts ever.

The changes are happening from the developers side, meaning through he City of Heroes servers and systems. If there were a method that we could assist you in deleting or changing the account names, rest assured we would, however I, and we, simply do not have the ability to do so.

If you wish to speak out about your feelings concerning the merger or the naming convention changes, you may do so at any time on the City of Heroes Official forums. The currently active thread about this issue can be found here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...=255267&page=2

No way there is going to happen anything else then the automatic renaming due to the script and the one-time exception made by the administrators at NCSOFT. Obviously NCSOFT and Paragon Studios are seperate entities.

Pretty much the same response I ended up with. Very shonky way to treat customers IMO.

As a dev I'd have thought you'd think it was perfectly reasonable.

The customer services teams have been given a toolkit that carries out a number of tasks, renaming accounts or deleting accounts are not one of those tasks.

In order to carry out a rename or delete (oh god help them an account merge) as we've been requesting, they have two options:

Option one: pay a developer at developer rates to perform the edits - running a specialist script having backed everything up first in case of mistakes then chacking manually - tying up a 'proper' developer for a menial task to cut risk may be ok for the occasional fix, but on this scale?

Option Two: Create a tool for the CS dept that is able to delete/rename.

There's a good reason why that tool wasn't in the kit in the first place - there is far too much risk of human error, far too much risk that the wrong account will be deleted or renamed; too much risk that the wrong person authorised the edit; too much risk that some disgruntled player will at some point change their mind and want the account put back.

I can see why no MMO I've ever played has ever allowed an account deletion or rename and it has nothing to do with the database structure, but everything to do with protecting the customer's information and protecting the company against complaints of misconduct.

As much as I'd love to keep my EU account name, renaming my NA one; as much as I'd love to have my accounts merged; as much as I think it would be sensible to delete all trials after 90+ days in order to free up the resources, I know that these things are not something it is reasonable to ask the CS department to do, or reasonable to get upset about because they can't.

In order to do what people are asking for, there would need to be budget & time allocated to developing a cast-iron tool to hand to the CS department, which would still have risks associated with it everytime it was used.

Personally I'd rather they spent that time, energy and money improving the game.
