Please: More Purchasable Stuff

I have no issue with microtransactions for more costume pieces and concept powers that don't really affect the game.

But when you start getting into powers that make characters noticeably better than those without them, and paying for exclusive mission content, that's where I draw the line.

I will NOT play a game where how powerful my character can be is determined by how much real money I'm willing to spend. If CoH goes that route, I (and probably a significant number of other people) will be canceling my subscription so fast it's not even funny.

As said before, the current level is Micro is okay. Any more is a horrid idea.

Purchasable pets, in-game-items, special campaigns, powers, etc... could all be placed in the NC store. I would probably buy loads of stuff and I'm sure other people would too. No cost other than development time and pure profit for CoH/V its a win-win.
No. Absolutely not. I have purchased every SuperBooster and other addon on one account, and about half of them on another. I like what NCSoft does with the money (increase dev headcount to swat bugs and add new features).

That "other game", the one run by the disreputable company owned by a complete jerk, is NOT what I want to play, nor is it how I want to pay for my MMO.

Earn your advantages IN GAME, not by throwing money at the company, thank you.

In addition to the above objections, taking out of game actions to gain an in-game advantage is known as "cheating" in most games. And I certainly don't want to have to pay for a new AT, or pay for specific new zones that my friends/guild might not buy and I would be unable to experience those areas with them. And lets not fragment the community, shall we?

Those aren't new pieces.

Also, they weren't free. Nothing is free in the game- it costs $15 a month. By the time each "free" update comes out, we've usually the price of an entirely new game.

While that may be... there are other games that charge monthly AND ask you to buy expansions.

If you are asking for stuff like buying more enhancement slots or an extra attack not normally in your AT then no. Same would go for asking for special missions that you have to buy, no. If you want to give NCSoft more money than the normal sub and the paid costume packs, buy thier stock.
I agree...

Now, I agree more.

I am against this idea. Not that I don't enjoy some of the Booster Packs and I have purchased a few but not all. If it has good items I can use I want it and am willing to pay. Examples include Ninja Run.. I now have characters that hit level 14 and get their permanent travel power without using a single second of time on the Raptor Pack they earned. Secondary Mutation comes in handy as an added buff although you never really know what you will get until its applied. on the other hand some I have skipped completely.. I refused to shell out 8 Dollars for the party pack (last I checked cool dance moves and the ability to dribble a basketball didn't help me in game one bit.

Now for the reasons I am against the OPs idea.. First off I agree with Tech... the last thing we need is to get to a point where we are paying for every update like SOME OTHER GAMES. The little boosters packs are fine now and then but let's keep the FREE stuff rolling.

And second while I don't begrudge them a few bucks they make selling Boosters I have often wondered.. Why can't we get something nice like that as a vet reward? I know I am not the only person in this situation..... At this point I have so many FREE RESPECs I could change my characters powers daily for a week or more and still not run out and then add in the ones I have earned running trials for badges plus the ones they give us in game when needed to correct a problem. I DONT NEED ANY MORE PLEASE STOP!

Then there are the free costumes I seem to get constantly.. Okay look It was been so long since any character I own had to PAY for an outfit its silly. I have older characters with 20 or more free tailor sessions that were awarded in game and have barely even touched the Vet Reward ones so those become pretty much useless as well.

And how many times have we been given a reward that was .. Item to decorate your base. Okay .. Unless your the base designer/builder for your SG how many of you are using these? And how many of you don't even belong to an SG to begin with? So they rank right up there as completely useless for MOST people.

So what it really boils down to is this .. after more than 5.5 years I have been given 3 attack temp powers that I can actually use. None can be enhanced and are only so effective at higher levels.. The Nemessi staff does come in handy in pulling or can assist a melee type when there is a need for range and same with the Black Wand! I have on BUFF pet that is pretty neat and does help a little. And I have been around long enough now that I can take a travel power at level 6 and don't need to take any of the other powers in the set to get it. That's about it. So after 63 months of paying my 15 bucks thats about all I get for my dedication. Oh and in case we forget run a BAF or Lambda trial and what happens to EVERY one of those powers? They are unavailable for use. Strangely Ninja Run works.. So I have going on 6 years of paid play under my belt but my Vet reward temp powers are useless but a guy with one month of play time and 10 bucks can use Ninja run? Fact is a guy that joins tomorrow can go to the store and pick up Ninja run, Secondary Mutation, Mystic Fortune, Self Destruct (so does anyone actually still USE that power? lol) etc.

I actually got one vet reward that consisted of 5 reward Merits??? Running out of ideas are we? I think maybe its time to stop selling us everything under the sun and actually GIVE us something nice that we can use as a reward for time invested in game. Again I am NOT say stop selling Booster packs but every once in a while it would be nice to get a Vet reward that actually feels like a reward. Last one I truly enjoyed was the City Traveler that allowed me to take my Travel power at level 6. I can still recall chuckling when I collected my FIVE Merits. First character that opened that was my badger and she was carrying close to 2000 reward merits at the time. "OH WOW 5 whole merits! Now I feel REALLY important." lol

We are not that other game.
B_J could you please be a little less vague with your responses? It wouldn't kill you to give a simple direct answer once and a while instead of always leaving people wondering if you like an idea or not.

Time and resources. The company simply can't afford to employ the number of people required to constantly pump out new monthly costume packs.

Vet rewards are a tough balancing act to implement. They devs want to give us cool perks as a way to say thanks but they also want to make sure they aren't game-breaking. Then there's the added grief they take from players that can't get it in their head that they have to wait their turn to get rewards just like everyone else. The longer the vet reward system runs the more pissed the newer "Gotta-have-it-nao!" players are going to get.

No, you pay $15/month to PLAY the game. Anything you get in an update is gravy. It just so happens that Paragon Studios has a generous update policy. Some games you have to PAY for every update. We've had 2 expansions (CoV, GR) you had to pay to get, and if you didn't pay you could get one of them 2+ years after it was released for free.

An expansion I might add that contained a LOT of costume parts. No doubt GR will be free in a couple of years as well, and you can have all of THOSE costume parts (Alpha, Omega, Praetorian Police, Resistance) for free.

Locking costume parts behind Vet Rewards, especially when we're now into the 80s, is a sure fire way to really annoy people who want the pieces for certain looks or concepts and yet can't have them. Yes, they aren't game breaking things to put away...but note how much a lot of people hate the Rularuu unlocks, the Nemesis rifle and tommy gun redside, Vanguard kit, Roman armour... This games main feature is the Costume Creator; being told you can't have those parts for ages is not a nice thing to be lumped with.

I have only one thing to say about this:

If they suddenly decide to ask me to buy more things, I'm going to ask them if I can stop paying them a monthly subscription. I don't appreciate having to pay for my games three times over.

No, the point he's making is that a good portion of our sub fees goes to paying for the development of the free issues we get. If the game wasn't making money off of our sub fees we wouldn't get anything including server access.

I cannot get behind this idea. As long as Paragon Studios can function by giving us most stuff for free, and offering a new $10 booster pack every couple months, I am happy.

Also, let's remember this: Aside from going F2P, The Other Game has been following our game's steps more and more. First, they released Archtypes, something they originally didn't have, but did so because (surprise, surprise), tank-mages were showing up everywhere.

Now, most recently, they are releasing a Resistance Pack. (I'd quote the actual wording, but I think that would be frowned upon by the mods.) This pack apparently allows you to travel to an alternate dimension, a twisted version of the actual game world, that is ruled by a dictatorship. You, the player, fight as Resistance against the dictator.

...Sound familiar to anyone else? I know that example has nothing to do with microtransactions, but it sounds like we are the ones setting the example here. The only things I would like to see from the other game is available stationary wing flight (gliding), asymmetrical costume pieces, and a wider variety of travel options.
