Living Relic Sidegrade -- Converts a very rare Incarnate Component into another very rare Incarnate Component of your choice. It requires some additional Incarnate Threads to catalyze the information.

Needs: 1 Living Relic and 150 Threads

The text plainly says that it converts a very rare incarnate component (in this case the Living Relic, since you know, it says "Living Relic Sidegrade" at the start and "Needs: 1 Living Relic" quite clearly there at the bottom) into another of your choice. That last bit indicating that you'll get to choose which other piece of salvage you'll convert your Living Relic into.
There really isn't a lot of mental gymnastics involved here.
It does in fact say that. However, I would tend to agree that the structure of the recipe within the context of all the surrounding recipes in the Incarnate system is somewhat misleading. This is compounded by the fact that the conversion in this case is one requiring significant number of valuable components; any uncertainty no matter how small is likely to be amplified by the concern the system may do something irreversible and unwanted.

The devs do not consistently obey the cardinal rule of user interfaces which is confirm all commands with irreversible side effects that don't have a time requirement. Such as accidentally quitting a league when it is in the process of launching, for example. Because of that, the conversion recipe as presented would even give me pause.

I second this. Big time. Having the pop up table is MUCH more "intuitive" than having an extremely long list of possible conversion recipes. PLEASE keep it this way.

Really? REALLY?

That's... a rather steep conversion cost. In fact, it seems almost laughable, if not insulting, if that's supposed to be a serious attempt to provide a "reasonable" cost for converting one UR component to another.

Of course, we also still have the absurd INF costs for the high-end components, which effectively price the 4th Tier components out of reach of I'd guess 90% of the casual players and probably half of the hardcore players.

I know that I'm not the only one who's pointed out repeatedly that these prices are really only feasible for farmers. In fact, the complaints about the INF costs have been second only to complaints about the rewards drops. So why don't we even get an acknowledgement that anyone has so much as heard this?

E-Merits are worth more than their thread breakdown value, because earning them is time-gated. I don't believe it's fair to gauge their value based on the thread cost of high-end components, though. Surely there's a good middle ground between 10% of 600, and 10% of 1300+.

I think your original idea -- charging 10% of the thread cost for sideways conversion of components -- is very a good one for components that people are actually likely to buy with threads. It's just a matter of figuring out what the most appropriate value for high-end components should be, given the most common methods for earning them.
Agreed on the Commons bottleneck. Even before the recent patch, which has made me lucky enough to draw Rares/Very Rares quite often, I'd be getting the Uncommons and occasionally (very, very occasionally) a Common.
Without a way to downgrade my Uncommons, I would be cashing in Astral Merits for Commons and when especially impatient, an Empyrial Merit for a Common (20 Threads).

The system is much better. The "buy-in" for Very Rares (think it's four rares and 400 million) is high enough that I likely won't ever use it, though that Tier 4 Rebirth is looking more tempting by the day.
