Ice Tank Alpha Slotting Question

If this is posted somewhere, I wasn't able to see it.

I love my Ice Tanker, mostly because I have had to really think about the build more than other tanks. But I am not sure which Alpha Slot is best. I actually have cardiac right now, even though I am obviously defense based. I didn't take it for the boost to the two resistance powers I have (Tough and Frozen Armor), I took it because of the endurance. Yes, with some IOs and Energy Absorption (which I use whenever I can), end is not such an issue. I guess I have to manage it better and that annoys me.

Having said all that, I am 50+1 and I still don't feel all that uber. Should I switch to Nerve for the defense boost? Or Spiritual for recharging my heal and Energy Absorbtion?

I would appreciate any input.

I stuck to Cardiac because it gives the greatest boost overall. The defense boots you are going to get is going to be very very small especially if you are already at the softcap. You might go spiritual as it could probably get you very close to Perma Hoarfrost and Enegry Absorption recharging faster. Just keep in mind faster recharge usually leads o faster end drain.

Uberness is overrated IMO. Ice Tankshave several survival tools. Use them all.. Defense is one.. Hoarfrost is another.. Hibernate is another.. and then depending on your secondary you might have some mitigation there as well. Use all the tools at your disposal. use Inspirations.. thats what they are there for...

The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-

What is the soft cap for defense on tankers?

I am not a numbers guy in this game, but if I am not at the soft cap (which I am not without EA, I can see that, but I don't check in game when I have that def added), I understand that every percentage point counts in a huge way. So maybe for me that extra defense would be good.

With Issue 20 it's a really easy choice, as Rebirth Radial benefits high HP toons so much and Spiritual makes it better.

If you've slotted your shields sensibly then T4 Nerve will add about another 3% to your existing defence figures. Softcap for non-incarnate content is 45%, for Incarnate content it's 59%.

Sorry Auroxis--I haven't dug deeply into i20 stuff like others. What is ""Rebirth Radial"?

Rebirth is a Destiny slot power for Incarnates. You can unlock it by doing Incarnate Trials.

The tier 4 radial(right side of the tree) version of Rebirth gives you a wide PBAoE Heal and +Regen, which I believe averages out at +433% Regen. Now, that Heal and Regen are both affected by Spiritual's +33% Heal component, which means that +433% Regen turns into +576% regen. That's 143% more Regen out of Rebirth's Regen component, which translates to about 20 HP per second with capped Tanker HP, and that's before taking into consideration the extra regen in Health and extra heal in Rebirth and Hoarfrost.

So to sum it up, the Spiritual Alpha gives you over 20 HP/Sec, if you have capped HP and the T4 Radial Rebirth Destiny power.

I might have to swap my Icer's alpha to Spiritual as I'm also using Rebirth.

I chose cardiac originally because while my endurance is fine while fighting groups, EA wasn't keeping up enough while fighting single hard targets. My EA is slotted to balance +def and endmod.

I experimented with a T3 Nerve to boost my defense in the iTrials. My build went up to 52% def pre-EA and 60-61% with a full EA boost. However, I haven't used it since as I was able to hit 55% def without it while using EA.

You can make Hoarfrost perma (not near perma) without the use of the spiritual alpha. You can do this while softcapping defense and getting significant +hp/regen. My Ice/Ice has 82.5% global recharge AND Hasten to add to it.

A lot of it has to do with how much influence you have to invest into the build. Not everyone can afford to place 5 luck of the gambler procs into the armors. My ice/fire tanker hasn't had any endurance problem, but the recharge on absorption is enough to keep it double stacked, and even triple stacked for 10 seconds or so. With that said, I think you may benefit a lot more from taking the T4 spiritual as that will increase the recharge of absorption and the benefit from Rebirth Radial.

Depending on how your taunt is slotted and how you control aggro, you can also use hibernate to recover endurance if you happen to run out or you're fighting a single AV and don't have enough targets to fill up your end from absorption. Simply taunt the AV and then go into hibernate until your endurance is filled or the AV begins to attack your teammates.
