Well then it is good you used your luck for important things.

Damn but why couldn't most of the series have been like the last several episodes? Then it wouldn't be being canceled.

I have never liked/gotten into SGU. It just lacks what SG1 and Atlantis had, they made it into a Soap Opera Drama in space. Its the same mistake they made with the new Battlestar.

I find SG-1 and Atlantis to be superheroic in nature.

Person 1: SG-1 saved the world <sigh> again.
Person 2: Again? This has to be the 20th time this year. So what award are they getting?
Person 1: The "Let Someone else save Earth" Award. Hopefully, they get the hint.
Person 2: Not likely.

SGU seems to be more realistic where they don't win every battle and actually have people form relationships instead of certain people not forming them due to professionalism.

The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.

They wanted to do "character-driven" shows (in part because they need fewer sets and fewer guest actors), instead of action/idea shows. I appreciate the sentiment, and shows like Lost likely led them to do this.

The problem, however, with both SGU and Caprica was that they made too many unappealing and whiny characters who couldn't get along with each other. Rush and Everett were constantly trying to kill each other, placing the entire crew at risk. The only likable characters on Caprica either had minor parts or died quickly.

The target audience for these shows is presumably the same audience that watched the predecessor shows. While there were some scumbag characters in SG1 and Battlestar Galactica (Baltar, for example), the majority of the lead characters were "good guys."

The people in Caprica acted like idiots and the people in SGU acted like jerks. Now, that might be the way real people would act in this situation. But that's why I watched SG1 instead of Survivor -- I'm tired of petty and embarrassing behavior and would rather watch something heroic.

In both SGU and Caprica the episodes that aired after these shows were canceled were far more interesting and promising than the vast majority of episodes that preceded them. I think the writers and producers finally realized what their audiences wanted, but by then it was too late.

I have little hope for Syfy's future, though. Showing pro wrestling seems like a last-gasp effort to pump some dollars into a dying channel.

The great thing about SG-1 toward the end of the series is that the team became so trope aware that it was like an in joke.

Yeah form relationships is about all they do. And as soon as that happens they either kill off one or the other person in the relationship, or arrange it so the characters never see each other again so they never have to delve any deeper. They also ignore popular characters and focus on developing characters nobody gives a rat's butt about.

Well sadly the first year and a half of SGU is pretty much forgettable. But damn starting about 6 episodes ago it started rolling out episodes that are exactly what the show should have been from the beginning.

Sadly that doesn't excuse that first 1.5 years worth of episodes that either suck or borderline suck.

If I had to guess it is that once canceled the producers stopped trying to make the show that scyfy wanted and make it the way they wanted.

I'm guessing that someone in scyfy programming is all into the angst driven story line and thinks that is what is popular. And they don't realize that shows need characters for the audience to connect with.

Except that it wasn't cancelled until after the season had wrapped.

Don't count your weasels before they pop dink!

Yeah. In fact we know from people on the show who were talking to the fans via Twitter that many of them only found out about the cancellation when SyFy publicly made the announcement. It was a surprise cancellation.

Pretty much this ^^.

We all seem to agree that SG:U is now finally 'getting good'. The first season was just so boring/stupid/bad writing but now it's getting in a groove....too bad it's canceled

Oh and, yes I thought this newest episode was okay but a little 'fast paced' at the very beginning for my tastes.

"We're under attack, we can't jump to FTL again..."
"Jump to FTL"
"Whew, we're still alive"

I was kind of hoping that before they started to be under attack that the planet below that was available to gate to was the one where the descendants were and then they'd have some sort of technology or something to know how to help defeat the drones.

Also, why didn't they try sending their drone out to confuse the other drones again?

That part is consistent with previous behavior. The "Confuse the drone" trick worked like this:

* Control Ship A had been destroyed, leaving it's drones dead in space.
* Control Ship B appeared and launched more drones.
* Destiny's crew opened up one of the dead drones leftover from Control Ship A, and used it to re-program A's drones to defend Destiny. They were vastly outnumbered by the drones from B, but lasted long enough to cover Destiny's escape.

So to make this trick work, you must first destroy a control ship, and then capture one of it's drones. Then you can re-program the drones to fight for you, but *only* the drones launched from that specific control ship.

I suppose they could have sent out their one "A" drone to fight. But just one wouldn't have made much difference.

Ah I stand (sit ) corrected....I did completely forget about the 'dead' drones...my bad!

I see that they have moved SGU's time slot again starting this week.
They really don't want people to enjoy these last few episodes.
It's almost like someone at the network realized after they canceled the show just how much better these eipodes are and is trying to mess with the viewers so there's not a Firefly-esque backlash.

Thank goodness my TiVo takes care of these kind of things.

It was at 9p EDT last week as well. What they moved was Sanctuary which is now on right after SGU.

So your saying that SyFy is trying to kill Sanctuary now.

Funny, I distinctly remember the previews saying "new time" at the end last week for this week's episode.

And knowing the head of the station's dislike for the channel's programming, amd how Sanctuary has been bounced around the schedule before, I think it's disctinclty possible that she's trying to kill off Sanctuary. After all she seems to have a grudge with the Stargate universe, and Sanctuary stars a SG1 alumn with Amanda Tapping.

Wow I'm glad I read that. I hadn't realized that they had moved Sanctuary. I was just in time to go set my recording to start in an hour and to remove the setting on "Urban Legands?" That seems to have taken its slot on Friday night.

Why would I want to watch a show called "urban legends" and what is a show called that anyway?

Probably another stupid reality show where they try to prove/disprove urban legends.

It is, that premered last week at 10p EDT Monday's. Not that I watched it, I pad my recording times to make sure I got SGU.
