No "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" Trailer thread yet?
On a side note, I've always thought movies like these were a bad idea. The mystique and mystery surrounding the whole "how the Apes rose to power" event is part of what made Planet of the Apes so compelling. The same could be said for most any movie that had either a shroudy past, or a shroudy-yet-set future (cough Terminator).
Stuff like that is best left in the imagination of the viewers. Which causes them to form their own theories, discuss it with others, then watch the movie again to confirm, all the while handing out mouth-to-mouth advertising. |
Also also, if this movie flops, it might be because audiences might not want to see us mowing down endangered species (in 3D!)

There can be genetically mutated super strong super smart velociraptors in place of the apes... they aren't going to win over human civilization.
hundreds can not take out billions to such a degree without using nukes. Even the best weapon next to nukes couldn't take out the entire human society to the point where the hundreds could take over.
They'd make a tremendous mess, yes, but they couldn't take out the entire civ and establish their own with those numbers.
And yes there was disease of some sort that killed all the dogs and cats and thus apes and such were used as pets and then they were slowly taught over the years and used as a sort of slave labor. There was also apparently a war of some sort and obviously some of the land masses were messed up.
btw, the only mass death thing that apes could do that would not be "end all life" would be an event that would wipe out the east coast of the USA. That would throw much of the world into chaos and could, if extreme depression set in, make it so a rich person would be extremely rich and a poor person would be reduced to unable to afford anything... Time that so that it happens right at the same moment as oil runs out and humanity would take itself out for the most part but you'd still have pockets of hyper tech...

PETA Member: "nuu don't kill all the rampaging apes trying to overthrow us all, they have feelings too!"
*A gorilla appears, grabs the PETA guy and tosses him off the bridge*
In the original movies humanity pretty much wiped itself out and the apes were able to pick up the pieces. They didn't do it to us; we did it to ourselves.

Didn't the apes originally rise up during a very critically bad time for humanity? Like we were on the verge of a World War 3, or something, which gave them a tactical advantage.
I've never delved too deeply into Planet of Apes lore, but I do recall that being one reason why they were originally able to overthrow humanity.

Also, as a side, side note.. I don't care how smart an ape is, if they don't evolve their hands properly, they won't be as good at using tools as humans.. Which is essential. Sure apes have great hands, as far as most animals go, and opposable thumbs. But they are a far cry from being as manipulative as ours, especially in the small scale. That being said, they do have some other advantages.. Could they shoot guns with their feet? (Imagines a Chimp quad-yielding pistols)
